Gabriela Orellana and the SBDC Help Build Healthy Communities by Building Healthy Businesses

Corvallis restaurateur who decided to make healthy juices after he was diagnosed with diabetes. By forming relationships with growers, he created a sustainable method of juice production by purchasing overripe fruit and turning it into juice which needs no added sugar.

“Even though he had run a successful restaurant, he didn’t know the steps for working with the Department of Agriculture and getting a product licensed to sit on a shelf,” said Schwartz.

Orellana helped him understand the licensing requirements, create a budget and financial plan, and understand his target customers. She also helped him with the Department of Agriculture, and food safety requirements.

“It really highlights what we do for businesses,” said Schwartz.
