Blue Shield: emblem that indicates the special or reinforced protection of cultural property in the event of armed conflict. Biodeterioration: type of biological damage produced by insects, birds, rodents, fungi and bacteria. Cultural Development Cooperation: set of actions aimed at integrating culture as a lever for development, by promoting respect for cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue and freedom of expression and creation, as well as the effective participation of all stakeholders in cultural life, for the purpose of generating wealth and improving the living conditions of people with scarce resources. Cultural diversity: all the cultures that co-exist in the world and their interaction. This is expressed through the plurality of languages, beliefs and other manifestations of culture and art. Cultural property: all of the goods produced over the course of history that give witness of the memory of past and present societies. Cultural heritage: all tangible and intangible assets and values that constitute the physical format and environment of communities, as well as their lifestyles, ways of communicating, forms of artistic expression, beliefs and traditions. Hague Convention: Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the event of Armed Conflict (1954), whereby the signatory states undertake to protect and respect the cultural heritage of nations that are in conflict, whether this be a result of war, internal conflict or occupation. Heritage Contingency Plan: procedure for safeguarding cultural heritage in the event of an emergency. It must include an assessment of the potential risks, preventive measures against natural disasters, emergency measures to be taken during the disaster and measures for recovering cultural property. Heritage cards: pack of cards containing illustrations of cultural heritage that is in danger, which are handed to soldiers so that they can be easily identified and subsequently, safeguarded.
