Week 01 -Design Proposal-

In this project, my plan is to build a website or an application as a network for connecting the people who need help with the people who want to offer a help. It could offer charities a platform to list their profiles, and allow donators to view these profiles and accomplish their giving in simplify donation process as well.

Week 02 -Project OutlineIn one hand, the website or the app could publish disasters or emergency in the world recently, and report latest information about it; it could let individuals post their issues about divergent needs; it could also provide non-profit organizations with a way to fundraise online. In the other hand, this is a great solution for people who want to help and make a difference, but simply don’t know any resources. People who are willing to help are able

to not only donate money or goods, but also spread the words about various charity events. The website or the app is a place where charities, donors and fundraisers can come together to help the many charities in the global wide in a variety of ways. Through the platform, users can chose how they give and which charity you give to. In addition, individuals and businesses can offer their unwanted goods to charity for free.

-Feature Explanation- Help Request 1. Various disasters news is reported. 2. Victims in emergencies create their profiles, and request special needs. 3. Organizations build profiles for their charity to raise fund. 4. Charity publishes events, which can announce their fundraising campaign - Donation Step 1.1 : Finding charity by sector

Step 1.2 : Finding charity by region

Step 2 : Donating money to charity Step 3 : Giving unwanted goods to charity Step 4 : Sharing the charity by email or on social network, such as Facebook, Twitter Step 5 : Keeping tracking after donation to build further relation between donators and receivers.

-Existing Product ResearchRed Cross – Official Red Cross Donation Sites

Redcross.org provides latest news about the events and disasters and the video about the news people focused on most to report the current situation. Also, it includes how to get help, how to help victims of disasters, and where to find local Red Cross. The website offered the information for volunteer as well about preparing and getting trained. Wish.org – Makes a Wish of Children with Medical Conditions

Wish.org grant the wishes of children with lift-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. There are four steps to granting a wish. Each step builds on the next to help create the amazing experiences that delight wish kids and their families. A wish experience is frequently a source of inspiration for children undergoing difficult medical treatments and a positive force that helps them overcome their obstacles. A wish experience is often more than a dream come true: It’s the catalyst that rekindles their belief in themselves and the promise of their future. Socialvibe – Social Fundraising Web Service

SocialVibe is an application dedicated to spreading the word about various humanitarian causes. Social media users share via Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, WordPress, Blogger,

and other tools. By connecting people with brands, Social Vibe generates charitable donations for causes. GiveZooks – Social Fundraising Web Service

GiveZooks is intended to provide non-profit organizations with a way to fundraise online. The charity or organization is asked to select a plan. After doing so, the user can create custom fundraisers and give their supporters the ability to fundraise for them online. The user can then select their preferred payment gateway. The user can also provide their donors with flexible choices when making a monetary donation, including credit cards, checks, stock, pledges, gift cards and wire payments. Charities can track their progress through GiveZooks as well. The application generates easy to read line and bar graphs that show the user how close they are to meeting their goals.

Kickstarter is a funding platform made especially for creative projects, and our guideline support that focus. Users can create their own project or discover some great projects and give them some support. I think the work process and the concept of fundraising is very related to my project, and can be a good reference for the website. For example, studying on the feature of showcasing the money gathering currently will bring benefit to my ideation. Gooddesign

Some infographic design poster such as help Haiti will be really relevant to design my page graphic element. In this design, for instance, they showed how much of the Haiti donations have been spent? And the designer visualized the helping and building concept, and uses those elements to illustrate the data and portion, which is directed and vivid.

Amazon Gift Registry

Arranging and registering a big event for planning and gathering gifts is also a good marketing strategy to collecting donation goods. Organization can start an event by the similar way to find investor. Also for some huge disasters, people can go to the specific page, which could be present like an event for more details about the disasters.

-User GoalsMainly the website offers compassionate services for the people who need help in five other areas: community services that help the needy; support and comfort for military members and their families; the collection, processing and distribution of lifesaving blood and blood products; educational programs that promote health and safety; and international relief and development programs. 

It is simple to use, people just post their request and looking for people who can help. Individual who request assistance can get both money and goods donation, and their issues get shared by a variety of people on their social network.

If people are feeling in a helpful mood, they can search by different charity sector or region for selecting the target they want to help, give them specifically what they want and keep tracking their donation by building a connection between

donators and receivers. Users can mobilize to help their neighbors – across the street, across the country, and across the word in emergencies. 

Organization can publish their events to gather volunteers for their campaign or their business to collect more investment from the society.

Paper Prototype Testing & Feedback In this first round of user testing, I modified my paper prototype, and just test it with my friends. The goal of this testing is to gather more ideas to optimized the steps of finding and requesting. So for each part, I tried to discuss with my testers about what is good or bad features as they think, what kinds of relevant function can be added.

Feature Adding 

Hands for recommendation - Requester need to get as much recommendation as possible to support their application. The number of hands represents the amount of recommendation they got.

DESIGN JOUNRAL – M.A. FINAL PROJECT

28

Medals for reward - Medal system can encourage people to donate more money and good to the people need help. It is a way to reward their behaviors.

Connection chatting - Instead of providing address and other way of contact information, chatting function can offer user a channel to communicate by preventing from privacy of requester and donator.

Mail notification - Notifying requester that someone just donate money or goods to him by email, also if someone achieve his request goal, people who support him will get an announcement.

Show/hide to public - Considering about privacy, the information requester can be shown or hided to public. User has more option for post his profile.

Funding percentage / time published search - By searching funding percentage can help donator to help the people have less donation, or the one almost achieved his goal. Also searching by time can let people find the project last a long time, but still didn’t get a lot of help.

Week 09 - Deliverable 1. Final Website 05 final\website\home.html 2. Jquery -Multiple selector-

Multiple selectors is very useful for my search bar. The user always would like to see choices when they need to input what they want. The selector can give user different level of categories to filter the people to get the one they really want to help. In my website, the multiple choice search bar will keep on the right hand side on finding pages, until user finds the right person, so that they don’t need to go back to reselect his search categories. http://www.adamcoulombe.info/lab/jquery/select-box/ http://api.jquery.com/multiple-selector/

I used this accordion jquery into my profile page, which provides a lot of information. From the users’ feedback, I found they might not want to see all the things on profile at the first look. And if they are interested in this project, and want to look into it to check more details, they will have this expandable option to review all the other pictures or stories behind this project. http://www.designfloat.com/blog/2011/10/12/10-jquery-accordion-tutorials/ http://www.misfitgeek.com/2011/03/jquery-accordion-container-choices/

-Riding carousels-

In order to making donor to believe the project, adding more details like pictures or videos is a good feature. So I used this riding carousel under my profile page of story section. http://sorgalla.com/jcarousel/ http://www.noupe.com/jquery/50-amazing-jquery-examples-part1.html

life by encouraging people to donate to other in their surround area. Requests, which include education & youth development, health & wellness, economic independence and basic human needs, can be quickly set up by a few simple steps. There are two ways you can utilize Givingbird. The first is, as a requester - you can create and submit request for aid. The second way to use it is, as a donor, you can give money, time, and even used goods to people in need. Adding a request on Givingbird is very easy. The first thing you need to do is to tell us who you are, what you need and why. It only takes a minute to select your category, type out your stories, and upload photos or videos. Then the whole area around you is ready to help. As a donor, you can search for projects by different categories, based on your location, and the person you want to help most. You can donate what you have; you can even share their stories with friends via email or other social media. Whether you are a donor or a requester, you will get an email notification each time a new donation happens. Givingbird also provides an app to help donors to search, make contact with requesters and track their progress once they have received donations. Check it out at givingbird.com, Givingbird; help people around you.

www.donorschoose.org/about#start This site vets every classroom project request submitted by teachers and processes donor transactions. They then purchase all related classroom materials, ship the items directly to the schools and notify the principal of the pending shipments. They close the loop by providing photos of each project taking place with teacher and student letters and a cost report showing how donations were spent.

I got the reference from the video on appointment-plus and dropbox. What they use is a very casual way to iterate their website’s function. They draw the scenarios out and animate them digitally. So I also took advantage of this style, which kind of like stop motion. Visualization is a big challenge for this video. I drew a character represent ordinary people, and use some gestures, facial expression to differentiate the requester and donor about what they can do on givingbird website. https://www.dropbox.com/ http://www.appointment-plus.com/ App VolunteerMatch
