day in the 24th minute. She received a pre-cooked pass from Maggie Mukhuwana and unleashed aimlessly from edge of the box. The ball went far wide, much to the fans’ disappointment. Mashalane was also reprimanded with a card towards the end of the first half. This after she had obstructed the Stars’ keeper, Gumani Mulibana. Realizing that there was a likelihood for Mashalane to see red, they replaced her with Gudani Nephalama seven minutes into the last half. Morning Stars were reduced to 10 men in the 67th minute. Their midfielder, Tshisevhe Lidzebe, was given her marching orders after kicking Maggie Mukhuwana intentionally. Chippas failed to capitalize as the Stars continued to match them in all departments. Maggie Mukhuwana, the Chippas midfielder, also saw red after tackling Phuluso Mothelo from behind. What could have been Stars’ winning goal was turned into a nightmare. Their centre forward, Munei Nemuramba, forced her way through the Chippas defence and shot straight to the keeper from within the box.

Muraga Spurs too hot for Mukoma All Stars By Frank Mavhungu Although they still have three matches to play before they wrap up their league programme, Muraga Hazard Hotspurs secured a place in the SAB League by beating Mukoma All Stars 1-0 in their MTG League match at the Muraga grounds on Saturday. The game was evenly contested, with the teams showing no respect for each other. The keeper of Hotspurs, Tshifhiwa Madevha, was the busiest player in the first 15 minutes. At that stage, Stars’ strikers were unstoppable, firing from all angles in their search for an early goal. Madevha denied the Stars’ striker, Dovhani Munyai, a sure goal six minutes into the game. He received a neat pass from Meshack Kone and unleashed a half volley from close range. Madevha braved the shot and palmed the ball away for a corner kick. Andani Thahale tried his luck with a ground cutter a moment later, and again Madevha made his presence felt by kicking the ball away.

Hotspurs took the game to the visitors in the last 20 minutes of the first half. Their centre forward caused an upset in the 35th minute. He received a beautiful pass from Patrick Mukhese at the edge of the box and hesitated for far too long to unleash before losing possession. Hotspurs effected two changes to their starting line-up early in the last half. They replaced Ndamulelo Nevhukalanga and Rabelani Mphathele with Wanga Nemakhavhani and Mpho Ligunuba respectively. Stars

responded by introducing Zwidofhela Mavhungu and Asivhothe Mashima for Dovhani Munyai and Adivhaho Neveni respectively. The important goal that earned Hotspurs three significant points came in the 78th minute. A substitute, Wanga Nemakhavhani, finished off a loose ball, following scramble within the box. Stars, however, did not give in without a fight. They continued to initiate some promising moves from the middle of the park in their search for the equalizer.

The players and fans of Hotspurs celebrate the team’s goal.

In their Thulamela Local Football Association League match at the Makhuvha Stadium on Sunday, Juventus FC collected the maximum points at the expense of Ravies FC, following their narrow 1-0 victory. As if they were going to bury Juventus alive, Ravies approached the aggressively, with their midfielders dishing out some telling passes to the strikers. Their original fighting spirit faded with time, however. Realizing that there was nothing to fear, Juventus took the game to their opponents in the last 20 minutes of the first half. The Ravies’ keeper, Balanganani Makhitha, denied Juventus two sure goals towards the end of the first half.

Ravies used all their substitution chances in the last half. They replaced Fhumulani Munyai, Talifhani Mulwela and Ndivhuwo Nelurangani with Thonifhani Mbulaheni, David Phaswana and Gudani Manenzhe respectively. Although pressure started to mount on their defenders after the Ravies’ replacements, Juventus kept their starting line-up intact. Their patience paid dividends later in the game. The keeper of Ravies, Balanganani Makhitha, passed the ball to an opponent to clear it from the danger area. Aluwani Mulovhedzi, the Juventus’ striker, received the pass and dished a square pass to Thinawanga Mphego, who headed home to ensure that his side deposit the maximum points into their league account.
