Oupa in hof oor “lollery” Deur Isabel Venter

Volgens die man se klagstaat

Very special Red Carpet concert for Clemour Entertainment

Clemour Ngobeni, popular finalist of The Voice South Africa show, will host a very special Red Carpet Music Concert on Christmas Eve in Waterval. His local performance is also a way in which he wants to thank his fans for their support over the past year. At the beginning of the year, very few people knew about the singing talents of this young man from Limpopo. He entered for The Voice SA and the rest is, as they say, history. During his time at the show he performed alongside internationally acclaimed musicians such as Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Lira, Kahn Morbee from the Parlotones and he also worked with the legendary Vicky Sampson. Clemour’s last “big achievement” was when he was invited to sing the national anthem when the Springbok rugby team took on the Wallabies on 1 October. He mesmerized the almost 50 000 spectators who attended the match at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria. On Christmas Eve (24 December) Clemour Music will be hosting a Red Carpet Music Concert called The Night Before Christmas with Clemour.

The event will be held at the Fountains of Life church at Ha-Chabani. The venue can accommodate 1100 people. A number of guest artists from Johannesburg, Pretoria, Limpopo and Cape Town will also join Clemour on stage. “We are bringing the beauty of a super, explosive music concert to the village, to inspire, motivate, encourage, and entertain and to influence the new generation that anything is possible, regardless of your background,” Clemour said in a statement last week.

Sy verhoor sal in April volgende jaar hervat.

Mounds of debt getting you under? By Isabel Venter

Mounds of debt getting you under? With the help of SB Debt Relief you can take back control of all your accounts and get your life back on track. SB Debt Relief is a licensed debt-review service provider registered with the Debt Counsellors Association of South Africa. The company recently opened up an office in Louis Trichardt and is managed by Mrs Susan Bothma from their premises in Krogh Street in the Northern Furnishers building. Their offices are situated in office number four on the first

floor of the building. As a trained professional, Bothma is able to assist with expert advice on how to keep the creditors away with their pesky phone calls. “Did you know that your personal belongings cannot be repossessed once you are under debt review? Under review your possessions are protected by a court order,” explained Bothma. Applications are quick and easy, and entail a full credit assessment, whereafter affordable debt repayment instalments are calculated for the client. This insures that the client has enough money to live off, while also keeping their credit record from

being blacklisted. After all debts have been repaid, a client is issued a clearance certificate, clearing their name and reinstating a clean credit record and financial freedom. “Having yourself under debt review and committing to the repayments worked out for your specific needs stops your debtors from repossessing your goods to cover debt or harassing you for repayment,” said Bothma. To enjoy financial freedom an appointment with Bothma can be made by contacting her during office hours at 082 823 1587. Emails can be forwarded to info@sbdebtrelief.co.za.

Naweek se reën ‘n goeie “ysbreker” vir seisoen

Lights at arrestor bed to make N1 safer again By Andries van Zyl

After about three years of struggling to get the arrestor bed outside Louis Trichardt on the N1 north 100% functional again, there is finally light at the proverbial “end of the tunnel” as the lights were finally, literally switched on again last Friday. The issue of lighting at the arrestor bed has been a contentious one for years. The lights initially went off as a result of a lack of maintenance and of cable theft. Since then, few have assumed responsibility to have these lights fixed. “The last couple of years we had numerous meetings with SANRAL’s contractor, the local traffic department and the municipality. There was also a major problem regarding who should take responsibility for the monthly electricity bill. With all this going on, the arrestor bed was shrouded in After about three years of complete darkness, the lights at the arrestor bed outside Louis Trichardt complete darkness for years,” said Mr Dirk Meison the N1 north were once again switched on last Friday. senheimer, chairman of the Sector Crime Forum, which had been actively involved in getting the arrestor bed functional again for some time now. Readers might wonder why the Sector Crime Forum involved themselves in the struggle as the matter is not obviously crime-related. The arrestor bed was initially built as a preventative measure to try and put an end to runaway trucks causing loss of life at the three intersections in town that cross the N1. “The lack of lighting did, in fact, cause a risk to people’s safety. As there was no lighting after hours, truck drivers refused to adhere to the mandatory stop at the arrestor bed, for fear of being attacked or robbed. With the trucks not stopping,

residents’ lives were once more put at risk with regard to runaway trucks,” said Meissenheimer. He added that, with the lights now working, local law enforcers such as the Makhado Police and provincial traffic department could also utilise the lighting at night for stop-and-search operations and road blocks. But why the sudden spark to get the issue of the arrestor bed sorted out again? Meissenheimer attributes the recent efforts to the appointment of a new SANRAL route manager, Mr Johan de Vries. “Since his appointment, we have been actively engaged in talks. Johan realised the seriousness of the situation and immediately made work of it,” said Meissenheimer. Apart from fixing the lights at the arrestor bed, residents might also have noticed workers repairing and replacing safety barriers along the whole stretch of N1 going through town over the past week. This project also falls under Johan’s supervision. “As for the immediate future, there are still one or two issues that need to be sorted out at the arrestor bed, such as the fact that not all the lights are working. This is mainly due to cabling that needs to be replaced. We, as the Sector Crime Forum, are also actively engaged in talks with SANRAL, through Johan, regarding other problem areas, such as the matter of hawkers along the N1, problematic traffic circles and illegal entrances to roads. The two main areas of concern are the illegal entrance to the N1 at Makhado Park and the illegal entrance to the Thohoyandou road behind the new extension in Eltivillas. These issues will be handled as priority,” said Meissenheimer.

The South African Post Office urges Limpopo motorists to check their car licences prior to going on holiday this festive season. According to a statement by the Post Office, many motorists may not be aware that their car license has expired or will expire while on holiday and they may be given a traffic fine for the infringement. There are 83 branches of the Post Office in the province where

vehicle owners can renew their licenses. By law, vehicle license renewal must be done in the province where the vehicle is registered and can thus not be done while on holiday in another province. Mr Geert Bataille, head of the Post Office’s retail division, says motorists must remember to take proof of residence and an identity document along when renewing a car license. This is a legal requirement. Motorists

who did not receive a renewal notice can download the form from postoffice.co.za. Click on Products, then Solutions. During the 2015/16 financial year, more than 3,7 million motor vehicle licences were renewed at Post Office branches. Motorists who received a traffic fine issued in terms of the AARTO Act (Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences) can pay the traffic fine at any Post Office countrywide.

Vir meer inligting, skakel Pétria by tel.

Foto verskaf.

Mix and match handmade soap for a luxurious Christmas gift Who would not appreciate a present of handmade soaps? Your gift will be used every day with pleasure.

This age-old craft is practiced by a local home-based company, KantriWoemin, right here in Louis Trichardt. Every bar of soap is crafted with rich, luxurious natural oils that nourish and clean the skin. “You won’t find any harsh chemicals or preservatives in our bars – just pure ingredients such as olive oil, herbs, essential oils, shea and cocoa butter,” explains

owner Vera Venter. She recommends a gift bag for mom with a combination of handmade aloe vera, lavender and jasmine soap bars. Each bar weighs approximately 130g and sells at R25 each. Ordering is simple, and can be done telephonically by phoning Vera at Tel 072 284 4212 or by writing her an email at kantriwoemin@gmail.

com. Alternatively, KantriWoemin’s full range of products can be viewed on their Facebook page’s online shop by searching and following KantriWoemin.

Think outside the big box this Christmas Sometimes the best Christmas gifts come in small packages…

So why not contact Annette du Preez, a local representative for Cazabella, to help you shop outside of the big box this Christmas? Cazabella offers a range of designer jewellery that will captivate the imagination, dreams and desires of South African women, both young and old. From delicate to decadent rings, bracelets, necklaces and earrings, Cazabella will not only amaze you, but will also go easy on your wallet. Whether you strut the red carpet, glow in the candlelight of a romantic dinner; enjoy cocktails in lavish cosmopolitan lounges, share secrets at casual book clubs or play away, Caza-

bella crystals will easily present you with glamour. According to Annette, Cazabella's children's range is currently very popular. “And why not buy something sparkling for a growing young lady?” said Annette. The range includes necklaces (with the cutest pendants), ringlets and bangles in the latest fashionable colours. For mom, Annette recommends something shiny. There are plenty of designs to choose from. The sets are also sold separately, giv-

ing clients the opportunity to mix and match as they see fit. To view Cazabella’s range, or to order something special to put under your Christmas tree this year, Annette can be contacted at Tel 084 684 1245.

Dreamy Christmas gifts, hand-made in Louis Trichardt Want to make sure your loved ones’ wishes come true in the New Year?

Why not buy them a handcrafted dream catcher, with old-style flair? Kristi Holtzhausen is a local crafter and makes these individual dream catchers that she sells at local craft markets and farm stalls. Gift shoppers are also welcome to buy them from her directly. The prices of the dream catchers vary between R280 and R400, depending on the size. No two dream catchers are the same, and boast a pretty hand-crocheted doily. Apart from making a perfect gift, these doily dream catchers can also be used to

spruce up a Christmas table. Kristi recommends using the doily dream catchers together with her handcrafted Protea flowers, folded out of old books. These re-purposed flowers (R150 each) will give a nostalgic and local flair to any Christmas table. For more information or to place an order, Kristi can be contacted at Tel 083 288 1759.

Never be powerless again

So you are stuck in the middle of nowhere, in total darkness and your cellphone is running low on power ... bet you are now probably thinking: “I should have bought that solar power kit!”

It is never too late to buy yourself or a loved one the gift of solar power. Archer Paints in Louis Trichardt stocks a wide variety of solar products – anything from emergency lighting to mobile phone chargers. This includes lanterns, solar-powered candles, and homework and util-

ity lights from Solarway. One unique little gadget is the G3 solar lantern with phone charger and radio – you’ll never be cut off again when camping out at your favourite fishing spot. Residents have become used to blackouts, but not all can afford a generator. No problem! Archer Paints also stocks the GDLITE lighting kit. The kit comprises four lights power from a battery pack charged by a solar panel. Charging time is about 13 hours, giving eight hours of light. “It actually provides decent lighting,” says owner Mark Archer, adding that it is a very good option for the person staying in an area where there is no power at all. “What is also nice about this unit is that you can charge it electrically as well,” said Mark. The GDLITE is South African manufactured and small and compact enough to take anywhere. It retails for R640. The Solarway products’ prices range from between R160 tot R690 – making it affordable for everyone. Best of all – it’s green, eco-friendly power.

Trick out your rifle with rugged little torch What do you buy a man who almost has it all? What about a manly tactical flashlight?

Turners in Louis Trichardt now offers gun owners the opportunity to trick out their rifle with a durable, shockproof 160 lumen tactical torch. “The feedback we get says the torch definitely works,” said Frikkie de Jager of Turners. The BSA Tactical Weapon Torch comes with a ring

mount and additional pressure switch, with a normal or strobe light function. “This product does not give problems,” said Frikkie. This tactical torch comes with a universal rail mount, making it compatible with .22 rifles up to .50 cal. It does not, however, come standard with a scope mount, but fear not. Turners also stocks the AIM Scope Adapter (25mm and 30mm), whereby the torch can either be mounted on top or on the side of the scope. The BSA Tactical Weapon Torch retails for a wallet-friendly R480, while the AIM Scope Adapter will set you back only R295.

Work hard, play hard without worries Get a unique Soutpansberg thetic fabric, with exceptionally Christmas tree good technical features. It is Being stuck in despair in the middle of a muddy dirt road need not be a crisis if you are worried

about keeping your 4x4 clean.

Why not treat your vehicle with some affection this coming Christmas by swinging past AutoFit in Louis Trichardt? They offer a wide range of off-roading products, including Escape Gear seat covers. “This is an ideal gift for the man or woman who likes to take care of their vehicle,” said AutoFit owner Gerrie van Zyl. Escape Gear seat covers are made from water-resistant, custom-fitted polycotton tuff canvas. It is a specially formulated syn-

dimensionally stable, tough, water- and abrasion-resistant. The colour being neutral, it will appeal to both males and females. “Our clients work and ‘play’ hard in their vehicles. Escape Gear seat covers give them the peace of mind to do so, knowing their interior is protected,” said Gerrie. The cost od fitting Escape Gear seat covers for a single cab begins at R4 500. For a double-cab, the price will start at R6 500.

Make them smile with a quality mountain bike With mountain biking still growing in popularity through initiatives such as the annual schools XCO mountain biking league, more and more youngsters are thinking of taking up the sport.

It is therefore important for parents to know what they are buying when investing in a mountain bike for their child. Cycle Centre in Louis Trichardt can assist in making that mountain bike “Christmas gift” decision this year. “First off, think about what the bike will be used for. If it is going to be just a bike for lazy weekend outings, then you don’t have to spend that much. If you child does, however, want to become a competitive racer, then cheaper is not better,” says Muhammed Rasool from Cycle Centre. A good quality bike for the occasional mountain biker, says Muhammed, will set you back about R7 000, with prices for bikes for the more competitive rider starting from

Tsonga Textiles here in Louis Trichardt not only offers a uniquely Soutpansberg Christmas Tree, but also some “local is lekker” gifts to wrap up and put under the tree.

“Why do we always use a pine Christmas tree? It is not even indigenous to our area, which is why we decided to make a Christmas tree unique to the Soutpansberg,” said Joy Nel on behalf of Tsonga Textiles. Hence the launch of their Baobab roll-up Christmas tree. The “tree” features a screenprinted baobab (from baobab hill near Pafuri) on canvas, which can be decorated with South

African-inspired material pin-on Christmas balls. This no-mess tree is available in a standard size of 78 cm x 135 cm at a cost of R175 a tree. Larger printed trees can be made to order. For under-the-tree or for stocking fillers, Tsonga recommends custom-designed, hand-stitched pencil bags. These baggies are available in a variety of colours and designs at R76 each. These baggies can be used as functional wrapping paper, which is a fun way to replace boring old store-bought trinkets inwrapping paper. “For example, you can ‘wrap’ a chocolate side a purse,” explained Joy. Christmas décor balls are also inside, and afterwards the bag can be used to store make-up or available at R20 each.

Give the gift of reading around R10 000. “For around R10 000 and upwards, you can buy a good quality entry-level racing bike. The better the bike, the more expensive it becomes. Here you are looking at overall weight, components and durability. Also make sure that, when you do invest in a quality bike, your retailer offers a reliable after-sales service to fall back on. Mountain bikes take a lot of punishment and components do get worn and break,” says Muhammed. With Christmas at hand, Cycle Centre offers two quality entry-level mountain bikes for the more serious young mountain biker, namely the Silverback Sola 4 and Merida Big 9 TFS 300. Both are 29 inches in wheel size and both

The Silverback features mid-range Shimano Acera Deore 9-speed components, while the Merida features mid-range Shimano Deore 10-speed components. Good news for prospective buyers is that the Silverback Sola 4 is currently on special for R9 200, while the Merida Big 9 TFS 300 will cost you slightly more at R12 000 (normal selling price is R13 500). “If you are thinking of buying either of the bicycles, remember to put in your order as soon as possible as the factories close during the December holiday,” says Muhammed.

started the frantic search for the latest gadgets, the team at the Wawiel Bookshop in Louis Trichardt felt that now was the right time to remind people why the gift of a book can mean much more than piles of presents this Christmas.

“The beauty of books is that they are all unique. They cannot become less special or be replaced with the next best thing. Once you have read them, you don’t throw them away, but come back to them again in the future,”

explained the bookshop. At the Wawiel Bookshop the receiver can later return the finished book and exchange it for a new book at the nonimal fee of R2. Beautiful bags for gifts are also available at the shop. This past year, the bookshop has expanded and now stocks a greater variety of books (Afrikaans and English) than ever that they sell from R5 and up. “You never know what jewel you might uncover here on our bookshelves, but you will certainly be able to find some great reads to give as a present,” said owner Jeneane Roets.

come,” said the Louis Trichardt SPCA’s Alicia Thomas. She thanked the NLC for this amazing contribution and that they had entrusted them with this funding. “Having these necessities funded and taken care of also affords us the opportunity to focus on other priorities and to budget for other extremely important projects, such as outreaches or sterilisation campaigns and to help us get to the animals and cruelty that is out there,” said Alicia. Alicia, on behalf of the SPCA, also thanked the lottery players whose participation in the national lottery help fund animal welfare and so many other worthy causes. “Then, a huge thank you to Bridge Ford Louis Trichardt for their assistance with the purchasing of our new vehicle. Also thank you to everyone involved in helping to convert the vehicle to our specific needs. This, among others, entailed fitting a specialised canopy. Thank you also for our community’s continuous support, not only financially, but also your compassion and caring towards the animals in our area. Without you, we would never be able to get to the animals that truly need our help and to care for those that are in our care,” said Alicia. On Saturday, 19 November, a High Tea function was held at 139 on Munnik guest house in Louis Trichardt to honour the senior citizens of Eltivillas of ages 70 years and older. There was an attendance of some 35 persons who enjoyed delicious snacks, cakes, tea, fruit salad and other goodies. The concept of arranging this function was conceived and executed by some friends who do not want to be named. The youngest seniors attendant was a newly celebrated 70-yearold Ramendra Rana (below left), while the oldest senior was 94-year-old Liliwantiben Premjee (below right). After the high tea, the seniors enthusiastically gathered on the lawns to pose for official group photographs. The seniors will shortly be presented with a CD containing all the photographs of the event for their use and viewing at their own leisure. The organisers take this opportunity to thank all the participants, service providers and especially the seniors for accepting their invitation and gracing the function with their presence. More such events are planned in the future. Photos: GM Photography.

Our office will close on 21 December 2016, however our agents will be available throughout the Christmas holiday.

E

k is ‘n ouer in hierdie gemeenskap.

Vriendelikheid is liefde in aksie (Ef. 2:6-7; Ef. 4:32).

- 079 5168303
