The deceased’s son, Mr Philimon Tshikhwatamba, said the killing of his mother had left them in shock and with broken hearts. He said that his mother had apparently cried for help, but to no avail. Her bloodied body was later found after the attackers had left the house. She sustained wounds to the head and it appears that a sharp object was used to stab her. “We are greatly saddened. Her death has left a void which will not be easy to fill. We are just putting all in the hands of God that He will guide us in this time of need,” the son said.

The SAPS spokesperson at Waterval, W/O Foster Rambau, said the motive for the murder might be related to witchcraft. He said that after investigations, they managed to make a breakthrough and arrest a suspect. A neighbour of the deceased, Walter Tshikosi (37), appeared in the Waterval Magistrate’s Court on Monday. oversee the operations of the municipality, as the financial statements and annual performance report contained material misstatements not detected by the municipality’s own system of internal control. “The municipality’s management of records was inadequate in keeping performance information that supported the reported information. This included information that related to the collection, collation, verification, storing and reporting of actual performance information,” the AG found. He added that the implementation of the supply chain management (SCM) processes and procedures were also inadequate, resulting in irregular expenditure. In regard of the SCM, the AG found that: * He could not obtain sufficient audit evidence that contracts were only awarded to providers whose tax matters had been declared by the South African Revenue Service (SARS) to be in order; * Awards were made to providers who were in the service of other state institutions, in contravention of the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA), although similar awards were identified during the previous audit year and no effective steps were taken to prevent or combat the abuse of the SCM process; * Construction contracts were awarded to contractors that did not qualify for the contract; * Contracts were awarded to bidders who did not submit a declaration on whether they are employed by the state or connected to any person employed by the state; and * Bid adjudication committees were not always composed in accordance with SCM regulation. The Makhado Municipality shared similar findings by the AG. It would seem that all municipalities in Limpopo are struggling with regard to leadership and financial and performance management. No single municipality in the province could achieve a clean audit. The Musina Municipality at least seemed to do better than Makhado in accurately summarising their dire financial situation.

Another ritual murder at Gumbani? - Continues from P 1 “We waited for her to come back, but she did not. We, together with the help of the community, searched everywhere, but the search did not yield any positive results,” she said. Manganyi further indicated that some community members told them she had been seen around the village, which eased their suspense, thinking she was around. “Her phone was on until Wednesday and that’s when we started panicking seriously and we reported the matter to the police.” She said they had received the bad news on Thursday that she had been found dead at the nearby river. “We rushed there and what we saw was scary. Her ears were cut off, her face’s skin was removed, her eyes were gorged out and skin on her fingers was removed.” She added that it was a difficult time for the family and that they were failing to come to terms with the incident.

She added that the family did not feel safe as they did not know who was behind the killing and whether the person could still come for the other family members. On Tuesday, the Minister of Public Services, Ms Faith Muthambi, and the mayor of Lim 345, Cllr Joyce Bila, visited the grief-stricken family. Muthambi said they visited the family to show that they were touched and concerned about what had happened and to support the family. “This is a tragedy; how can a human kill somebody in such a barbaric way? Where is our ubuntu? Let us go back to the basics. My plea is that we should all stand up and fight this scourge. We also need prayers for an end to this demon,” she said. During this paper’s visit to the family, funeral preparations were ongoing with the minister, local traditional leader Hosi Richard Mkhachani Mabasa, businesspeople and the whole community joining hands to give the girl a decent funeral.

Thavhani Mall to open next month Development

Thavhani Mall in Thohoyandou will officially celebrate its grand opening on Thursday, 24 August, Thavhani Property Investments has confirmed in a press release last week. The 50 000m² regional shopping centre will be the largest in the thriving town of Thohoyandou as well as the greater Thulamela Municipality, with the introduction of a wide variety of exciting retailers to the region, boasting over 134 shops, restaurants and service outlets. Shoppers can look forward to anchor tenants Woolworths, Edgars, Pick n Pay and SuperSpar, as well as an impressive line-up of leading national retailers such as Foschini, Truworths and Mr Price. Thavhani Mall is poised to offer new and unique world-class retail shops in the area as a clutch of top brands entering the region for the first time including Woolworths Food, McDonald's, Mr Price Sport, Hi-Fi Corp, Incredible Connection, Cape Union Mart, Old Khaki, Tread + Miller, Keedo, American Swiss Jewellers, House & Home, The Hub, Rochester, Torga Optical, Spur, News Café, Cross Trainer, Queenspark, Donna Claire, Mr Price Home, Bogart Man, Green Cross, Sneakers, Relay and Arthur Ford Perfume. The vision for a regional mall in Thohoyandou began with local businessman Khosi Ramovha of Thavhani Property Investments seven years ago. Ramovha then partnered with seasoned South African shopping centre developers and investors Flanagan & Gerard Property De-

velopment and Investment to drive the vision forward. In addition, JSE-listed REIT Vukile Property Fund has also committed to the partnership with a one-third stake in Thavhani Mall that will transfer when the mall is complete. This new world of exceptional retail will be set across two fully air-conditioned levels to be the focal point of the large mixed-use urban precinct mega development, Thavhani City, which is being developed on a 27ha site in Thohoyandou. As a shared vision between Thavhani Property Investments and the Thulamela Local Municipality, it will add the Thavhani Office Park, a motor city and private health-care facilities to the existing facilities, which include a library, community centre, information centre, and the 40 000-capacity Thohoyandou Stadium. Paul Gerard from Flanagan & Gerard Property Development and Investment says Thavhani Mall is already an asset to its community through the creation of jobs throughout the construction process and will introduce hundreds of new full-time jobs when the centre opens on 24 August. “In addition to offering the community the biggest and best selection of shopping and leisure options, Thavhani Mall will serve as a significant boost to the Thohoyandou local economy,” he adds. Getting to Thavhani Mall will be a breeze as the mall enjoys easy access from the CBD and major regional roads. The mall is well located located along the R524, which links Louis Trichardt to Punda Maria and with major north-south links to Sibasa and Giyani.

Matshisevhe CPA in crisis By Tshifhiwa Mukwevho The Matshisevhe Communal Property Association outside Tshikwarani village is facing a “serious crisis”, with some beneficiaries accusing the present CPA management of maladministration and the squandering of resources. This came to light after two beneficiaries, Mr Aleas Matshisevhe and Mr Sam Mudau, visited Limpopo Mirror‘s offices recently with the allegations about the CPA. According to the two beneficiaries, the current committee’s term had elapsed on 12 March 2015 and they now continued to run the CPA illegaly. “Their term has expired and they use the same tactic of not holding general meetings … (they) continue running the CPA without being elected,” said Mr Sam Mudau. The land was claimed in 1998 and granted in 2008. The granted farms include Uniondale Farm, Carlsdorp Farm and Bristol Farm. The first committee was elected in 2009 and ran the CPA for three years. Matshisevhe and Mudau said that during the first committee’s reign, all things were running well, and the CPA’s operational reports were brought to the people during general meetings. “There was a person who was designated to look after the place, which was an old residential house of the previous owner,” Mudau said. “However, the 2012 committee removed the caretaker without any tangible reason being given to the beneficiaries.” The second committee’s term was supposed to end on 12 March 2015. “The CPA is now operating without a legitimate committee, but with some brazen, self-imposed committee who gives us no annual financial reports,” Matshisevhe said. Mudau added that the “same individuals who were elected in 2012 influenced some close relatives, so that they remain in authority without any elections in 2015. The committee comprise eight pensioners, who are all over 65 years of age.” Matshisevhe and Mudau claim that there is exploitation of resources and minerals. “Sand miners pay R3 000 per truck per month, wood gets charged at R250 and R450 per load to an individual, who is only a beneficiary,” Matshisevhe said. He said that there were more than 15 trucks that mined and collected sand on a daily basis. The committee allegedly charges R35 per head for cattle grazing on the land. The “self-imposed committee” removed all beneficiaries who were guards at the main gates and replaced them by non-beneficiaries without consulting the Matshisevhe community, the men claim. “We believe that they wanted to exploit the resources and minerals without beneficiaries being witness to it at the gates and inside the land,” they say.

Mr Aleas Matshisevhe says it's illegal to cut down big trees.

Mr Aleas Matshisevhe says fire is being made in the wrong places where it can lead to massive damage to thatched chalets and the wildlife. All cases reported in the Thohoyandou Policing District only

Eight cows were found slaughtered and dumped in some bushes at Masakona village last weekend. According to residents of the area, incidents of stock theft are on the increase in the Hlanganani area. One of the owners of the slaughtered cows, Mr Solomon Mankwe, said that stolen meat was being sold to butchery owners in the area. He also suspects that the owners of catering companies are to blame. “The thieves clearly do this to cater for their events or sell meat at their butcheries,” he said. Mankwe said that he had left his cows grazing in the bush, but later found that some of them were missing. “But a few days later I discovered my slaughtered cows, less than 15 kilometres away,” he said. When he arrived at the scene, only the heads and intestines remained. Police spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe confirmed that there had been an increase in complaints of stock theft in the Hlanganani area. Last weekend, the police were called to the scene at the bush and found the lifeless bodies of the slaughtered cattle. “This is where the cows were being slaughtered. Some of the farmers identified their cows,” he said. “Three months ago, we received another complaint about many stolen cows found slaughtered in the bush in different areas,” he said. Ngoepe said that the police were investigating a case of stock theft. No arrests have been made yet.

Elim hospital doctor suspended By Kaizer Nengovhela The Elim hospital doctor who was arrested last week on drug-related charges was also suspended from work while the investigations are continuing. Mpho Paul Lekalakala (35), a clinical doctor attached to the Elim Hospital, appeared briefly in the Waterval Magistrate’s court last Thursday. Police reports state that the suspect is currently doing community service around the Waterval area. Nine sachets of nyaope, four rocks (hard drugs), two smoking pipes and a plastic bag containing dagga were confiscated during his arrest. The police spokesperson,

Lt-Col Moatshe Ngoepe, said that Lekalakala’s arrest was part of a provincial clampdown on possible drug dealers. He said that the police had tracked the suspect after receiving a tip off. “Information was followed up that led the police to a house where the doctor and his alleged accomplice, aged 32, were arrested. These operations will be conducted continuously to rid the affected areas of this scourge,” said Ngoepe. The case was postponed to 1 August for further investigations. The doctor was released on bail of R1 000. The other accused opted to pay an admission-of-guilt fine of R300. Lekalakala, who was doing his community service at the

Elim Hospital, was apparently on leave at the time of his arrest. The Limpopo Department of Health announced this week that Lekalakala has been suspended. The department’s spokesperson, Mr Thabiso Teffo, said that such an act as Lekalakala is being accused of, sought to undermine the government’s efforts in the fight against drug abuse. He said the doctor would remain suspended, following the disciplinary procedures instituted by the department. “While we subscribe to the notion of innocent until proven guilty, we have served the doctor with immediate suspension to pave the way for internal investigations,” he said.

Elelwani wins beauty contest By Kaizer Nengovhela

Police during the arrest of the clinical doctor (centre) and his accomplice.

The 21-year-old Elelwani Tshidada, a student at Rosebank College and resident of Tshiozwi, was crowned as Miss Sinthumule/Kutama at the Ravele S2S hall on Saturday. Ms Pearl Maboyi (20) of Madodonga was crowned the first princess and Miss Phumudzo Ramusheu (17) of Gogobole is the second princess. The organisers, in partnership with Avuxeni College, hosted the beauty pageant as a part of a drive to encourage the youth to be involved in positive pastimes and to

concentrate on their studies. All the winners received bursaries from Avuxeni College. According to one of the organisers, Mr Molatelo Machaba, they had realized that to reduce crime and encourage the youth in education, there was a need to offer prizes of different activities. He further said that they were happy with the outcome of the contest as well as the fact that they had done something for young rural adults. “Most of the talented young ladies never received the opportunity to show their talent, especially in modelling.” Machaba thanked all the stakeholders who supported

them during the contest, adding that they wanted to make it an annual event. The manager of Avuxeni College, Mr Morris Nkuna, said that he had donated bedroom suites, pillow cases, study tables and a free training course to all who participated in the beauty contest. “I’ve enjoyed every moment of the competition, despite all the challenges that came with it,” said the queen, Elelwani Tshidada. She said she would spend this year educating young people of her age about the importance of embracing their beauty.

New chief for Mabulo village

No road for Mulima soon By Tshifhiwa Mukwevho Residents in the Mulima and Tshitale area should not get their hopes up that the road to their villages will soon be upgraded. According to the Road Agency Limpopo (RAL), this road is not on the immediate schedule to be upgraded. Earlier this year, residents hosted several demonstrations after failing to get the attention of and answers about the road from the RAL. The Mulima and Tshitale road is so bad that, when it rains,

commuters are left stranded on the muddy roads. “It’s near impossible to reach our places of work when it rains. Roads are slippery, so that even buses and taxis do not operate,” said a resident, Mr Edward Mafela. In February this year, many government officials could not reach their places of work because they got stuck in the muddy road of Pfananani. “I am speaking about educators, policemen, officials at the magistrate’s offices, education circuit office, police station and students from primary

and secondary schools,” Mafela said. He added that the workers and commuters had held several meetings to discuss the road issue over the past years, and they had even sent some letters to the local municipality and district municipality. Residents were informed that the road falls within the RAL’s jurisdiction and not the municipalities’. “We had to discuss this problem among ourselves as workers,” he said. “The impression we have is that our government is very selective in offering services. There are areas it does not appear to care about. One such area is Tshitale.” Mafela said that they were not calling on the government to tar the road, but just to grade it with strong material, so that they would be able to commute to and from work. “Residents marched to demand that recently,” he said. “If we look at what is happening now, we will all agree they were justified.” When it had rained, taxis from town and schools in other villages offloaded commuters and pupils about five kilometres away from the village and educators would volunteer to load them into their four-by-four bakkies, so that they did not spend the night on the misty road. The spokesperson for the RAL, Ms Anastacia Lekalakala, said that the road in question was a portion of roads D3727 and D879 between Mulima and Tshitale, which also formed part of the Bermuda Road (T637B) from Mashamba to Morebeng. “I do not think this section forms part of the advertised tender T637B which closed on 2 March this year, because it is a portion of Mulima and Tshitale roads,” she said. “Mulima is 14km from Mashamba (end of tar), and Tshitale is a further 9km from Mulima. We are not yet certain when the next section will go out on tender.” Mafela said that the residents were planning to sit down and write a memorandum, which they would then submit to the RAL offices. “We need the road to be graded in the meantime,” he said. “And we also need this very road to be formally constructed and tarred.”

Empowerment for youth By Elmon Tshikhudo The Bethel Missionary Church at Maniini recently showed its commitment to empowering its youth. As part of the Youth Month celebrations, the church hosted a session to empower them on issues of education, life in general and careers. Youth came from as far as Giyani and other parts of the province. The church roped in experts and professionals who gave advice and motivational talks. Church founder and leader,

Apostle Fulufhedzani Netshitavhadulu said the idea came after realising that youth sometimes lose focus and use the youth month celebrations for something that they cannot be proud of, such as drinking, engaging in unprotected sexual encounters and drug abuse. “We felt we couldn’t keep quiet and pretend as if nothing is happening. We are also concerned about what is happening in our own area where people are being killed or disappear without a trace,” he said.

The youth had a chance to interact with SABC presenters Lutendo Tshisikule, Thilivhali Muavha, popularly known as Big T and Miss Limpopo 2017, Thari Makhari. Adv Esau Ngwana delivered the main speech of the day. He urged the youth to build their lives upon Jesus’ example. Established gospel artists like Huli Mbambale, Tsiko Mal, Rotsi Dzivhani, Walter Mudzunga, Mercy Masakona, Mukondi Malabi and Shandukani Phida performed during the event.

Some of the traditional leaders and councillors in Thulamela pose for a photo after attending a meeting of the Mahosi/Tihosi Forum. The forum meets quaterly with the local municipality and discusses issues affecting them. The event was held last Thursday at the offices of the Thulamela Municipality.

Eleven young people from the Vhembe region received awards from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development during a ceremony at the Thohoyandou Indoor Sports Centre last Tuesday. They are all hardworking aspirant farmers. The district director in the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Vhembe, Ms Edna Raphunga, said the awards were aimed at encouraging and recognizing youth participation in agricul-

ture, as well as to “encourage more youths to contribute to job creation and economic growth of the country.” She said that she was excited that young people in the region had taken the lead by actively becoming involved in farming, taking farming as a serious business that will help create jobs for other jobless young people. The winners are Mr Nyadzani Rerani, top producer: national market, Mr Alufunwimunwe Makhale, top producer: informal market and Ms Takalani Matshavha, top producer: household and

they were given R5 000 each and a certificate. They will also represent the Vhembe region in the provincial awards scheduled to be held later during the month. Rerani said he was over the moon to learn that his hard work had finally paid off and hoped his award would inspire others who wanted to take farming seriously. Everyone wanted to know me and my music By Tshifhiwa Mukwevho Queen of wedding songs Makhadzi described her recent trip to France as superb, revealing and a learning curve in many beneficial ways. She just returned from France last week, where she participated in the Midem Artist Accelerator programme at Cannes. A resident of Ha-Mashamba in the Makhado area, Makhadzi, or Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona, said that the Makhadzi mesmerised music lovers in France.

By Maanda Bele Tendani Mathaga, better known as Prifix, released his third album, entitled Legacy, last weekend. The album consists of 16 songs and the songs Angelina, Legacy, and Mita ai fani are already popular with the fans. According to Prifix, the album is dedicated to his mother (Ntshengedzeni Mathaga), father (Khathutshelo Colbert Mathaga) and two sisters (Mvuko Mathaga and Mudanalwo Princes

trip to France was a milestone in her life. “Going to France was the best thing that happened in my music career,” she said. “They showed me so much support, I was feeling like a star. Being on the plane for more than 12 hours was extremely existing (exhausting or exciting?)and we had to connect at Dubai. Honestly speaking, Dubai is a beautiful place, even though I was there for only two hours.” She added that the people at Cannes were ever so friendly and accommodating. The town was clean and neat. ''Their infrastructure gives the place a light mood of good life,” she said. “I had my Tshivenda beads and attire, so everywhere white people came for pictures with me. They admired my Tshivenda attire and the best part was when I performed. They had artists from all over the world on one stage, people like Siphokazi, and Theolodge.” She stated that she knew right there that African music was universal. She said that her first song was Rudo Rhwangu and everyone started cheering, giving her more power and strength

to dance. “The crowd went crazy, so I got booked for another show on the spot,” she said. “The attitude towards me from other artists also changed after my performance, and I know I made my fans and Venda and South Africa proud. Everyone wanted to know me and my music.” Makhadzi managed to network with some international artists and brands, so a good posibility exists of her heading to New York in September and the United Kingdom in December this year. “It's amazing when you check the time and it's 21:00 but it's still clear like daytime and you know back in SA it's dark,” she said. “It was hot like summer the whole week but their weather is unpredictable 'cause it might be sunny during the day and drizzle at night. I learnt a lot at music workshops and meetings.” She thanked Rita Dee Entertainment and all the people who had contributed to her music career. “I believe when you have the right team to work with, everything is possible,” she said. “Dreams do come true. I had to pinch myself in the hotel, thinking of where I started.”

I had to do something for them when I still can, hence I dedicate this Legacy project to them. The support I get from my friends, music mates and people I work with made me the fix I am today,” he said Tendani, who is doing his B Tech degree in language practice at the Tshwane University of Technology, believes that “no matter where you are, no matter

who you are, never, ever let fear grow in you. It will distract and destroy you. Live, believe, give and forgive and leave a legacy.” He released his first album, Born & Raised, under Mos-Bee Records in March 2015 and a year later he released his second album, Rise & Shine. In the same year, Prifix collaborated with Makhadzi and Bhamba and released an album called Vhaphandi, which means 'hustlers'.

Maungani road opens for traffic By Maanda Bele The mayor of the Thulamela Municipality, Cllr Avhashoni Tshifhango, officially opened the road to Maungani last Friday. He said that the opening of new roads was part of the definitive progress the municipality was making in righting the wrongs of the past. “For the Maungani and Ngovhela

residents, this road means health services, schools, shops and other facilities are within reach. It means mobility and choices for people who have been forced to spend many hours walking or paying high transport costs because their homes are far from any roads,” he added. Dolly Construction was the contractor and BRBF the subcontractor. The length of the

road is 3,022 km and the width 2meters. Six speed humps were constructed on the Maungani road; the length of the sidewalk is 3.8km and the length of the stormwater drains is 3km. The chairperson of Maungani Sanco, Mr Elvis Nembilwi, vowed to protect and take care of the road and said that the new road would make things easier for residents of Maungani and Ngovhela.

Mayor Mihloti Muhlope said it was important to fill all senior management positions to make sure that the municipality delivered services effectively. She said Council had confidence in Tshiwanammbi and there was no doubt that he would take the municipality to a higher level. “Given the fact that he is not new to local government, coupled with his proven leadership qualities and academic excellence, we are confident beyond doubt that Tshiwanammbi is the right man to occupy this position.” Tshiwanammbi promised to perform his duties to the best of his ability. “The task before me is huge, but I’m happy that I have a dedicated team of councillors and officials who will help

If not, The police promised that they would we'll take the law into our hands. Let's investigate the case thoroughly.

The residents of Mphephu Thondoni in Nzhelele demonstrated their dissatisfaction with the prevailing crime in the area, when about 300 of them submitted a memorandum of grievances to the Mphephu Police Station last Friday. They are demanding immediate actions after the recent murder of Portia Rasilabe. They are displeased by the lack of action of police officers regarding her death and stipulate that a known suspect should be arrested within seven days. The chairperson of the Mphephu Civic Association, Mr Livhuwani Mphephu, was happy that the residents came in Nzhelele residents marched to Mphephu Police Station to submit a memorandum of their numbers during the grievances on Friday.

Staying focused and always questioning things and issues has always been the key ingredient to Risuna Rivombo's success. Now, as a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) student, at the University of Pretoria, hard work and strong determination have paid off. “Questions help to focus on particular strategies, connect to previous experiences and help me see patterns and relationships. Always asking 'why',serves as a prompt when I become stuck,” said 18-year old Rivombo, who hails from the small town of Vuwani, Section E. “My obsession with asking the question 'why' in relation to all life forms, including people, has greatly influenced my choice to study medicine. My motivation is seeing patients and knowing I can change their lives," she said. She is aware that the country is desperately short of doctors, and at the current rate of about 1 200 new doctors graduating a year, it will take a decade to clear the backlog - and that is provided all new graduates stay in the country and in the public sector. Her passion for medicine is also driven by her desire to improve and find more innovative ways to address female healthcare needs, an area which she feels is somewhat neglected in the industry. “I wish to focus more on the health of women, venturing into answering questions that are not quite answered when it comes to female-related ailments and playing a role in improving treatment

to those ailments by improving understanding of the ailments,” she said. While entry into first-year medicine is extremely competitive – the University of Pretoria alone is getting about 5 000 applications each a year - Rivombo found it easy to get accepted. After all, she received six distinctions in her Grade12 exams last year. She excelled in academic achievements, including winning a gold medal in the regional level of the Eskom Science Expo in 2014; being a part of the top 100 learners in the 2016 National Science Olympiad, and being selected as one of three learners from South Africa to attend the London International Youth Science Forum in South Kensington, funded by the National Research Foundation and the South African Association for Science and Technology Advancement. Her academic achievements have not gone unnoticed. AfroCentric Group, a healthcare management and services company, which owns Medscheme Medical Insurance, awarded here an all-expenses paid bursary to further her studies. Rivombo is fully aware of the challenges involved in studying medicine “The work load is very large across the entire course, not just the first two years as it is in some other courses. Medical students also run the risk of contracting diseases in the hospitals during study”. Nonetheless, this does not deter her from her passion of becoming a doctor. (The Media and Writers Firm)

Two young and upcoming farmers from Makhado Municipality in the Vhembe district recently won awards in a national competition. The competition, Youth in Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Awards, was organized and hosted by the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and took place in Pretoria. The two young farmers, Messrs Lutendo Ramahala and Tshilidzi Mathidi (both 28), received awards for excellence as commercial and smallholder farmers respectively. This was after a selection process where application forms from provinces were assessed for shortlisting and the best three from each of the 10 categories were identified. All shortlisted candidates were visited at their farms and interviewed on video. Ramahala won the smallholder excellence award and went home with a trophy and R50 000. He is the chairperson of Vhumatshelo crop farming cooperative with six youthful members from Ha-Rathidili. The cooperative has five hectares of land and plants carrots, cabbage and butternuts. "Winning the award has motivated us to request for more land to create jobs and produce more," said Ramahala after receiving his prize Tshilidzi Mathidi became the first runner-up in the commercial category He is a director of Mamusha Boerdery, a family company situated in Vivo. The farm produces vegetables, citrus and livestock. In response, Mathidi said the competition made him understand the importance of business compliance on documents and processes.

PUBLIC NOTICE APPROVAL OF SERVICE DELIVERY AND BUDGET IMPLEMENTATION PLAN (SDBIP) FOR 2017/2018 FINANCIAL YEAR

Although the activities of the new soccer season for Absa Premier League teams will start next month, it is already business as usual in the camp of Polokwane City. The players of City are ready for the new season, said the team’s chief operations officer, Mr Tincy Tema. According to Tema, their reason for commencing with their normal training before the activities of the new season’s start is that they wanted the coach to get enough time to prepare the team for the season ahead. “We are ambitious, with a goal to achieve and therefore we had to go for the best,” said Tema.

The Service Delivery and Budget Implementation Plan (SDBIP) will enable our communities, various stakeholders and councillors to monitor and evaluate the general performance of the municipality against the set targets on continuous basis. Maranzhe Hungry Lions Madzuhe champs By Frank Mavhungu Maranzhe Hungry Lions are still celebrating after being crowned the 2017 Petrus Madzuhe champions at the Maranzhe grounds last Sunday. They beat Tshivhilidulu Hungry Lions 3-1 in the final. Although no goal was scored during regulation time, the teams managed to display entertaining football throughout the game. The combination of the Tshivhilidulu forwards, Ndivhuwo Sathuma and Khuthadzo Tshikulumela, kept the defence of Maranzhe running for cover for the better part of the game. Sathuma used his physical strength to win the balls, while Tshikulumela used his dribbling skills to penetrate through the defence of Maranzhe. The keeper of Maranzhe, Khodani Madzena, made his presence felt in the 24th minute. He braved Mukhethwa Mulaudzi’s long-range volley and pulled off a great save. That was a wake-up call

to the defenders of Maranzhe. They regrouped from behind, creating some dangerous moves from the middle of the park. Maranzhe came close to scoring seven minutes before the referee blew the half-time whistle. Pfarelo Nemaranzhe tried his luck with a long-range ground cutter. The keeper of Tshivhilidulu mishandled the ball, but there was no one to make a follow-up on the loose ball and ultimately the stranded keeper rectified his mistake. The winner was determined through a penalty shoot-out. Maranzhe scored three via Pfarelo Nemaranzhe, Murangi Nemakonde and Masala Tshivhase, while Tshivhilidulu managed to convert only one of their five chances. Maranzhe received R6 500 and a floating trophy during a ceremony held at the grounds shortly after the final whistle. The runners-up, Tshivhilidulu Hungry Lions, received R3 000. Hungry Lions were the defending champions. A cash prize of R2 000 was presented to the third-placed side,

Tshambobvu Junior Aces. Itsani FC finished in the fourth position and received R1 500 during the

ceremony. Junior Aces beat Itsani FC 6-5 on penalties in their losers’ final earlier that day.

A total of 57 local coaches attended the Youth Technicians Lekgotla coaching workshop at the University of Venda's council chamber last Saturday. The event, which was facilitated by Qina Sports, covered a variety of topics, including the uplifting of the standard of coaching at school and youth level and to create a coaches network that can promote knowledge sharing. The

workshop also looked into the level of knowledge of coaches at school and youth level, as well as addressing the struggles coaches face on a day-to-day basis and to find solutions to closing gaps within developmental football in South Africa. Some of the speakers at the event were Messrs Buti Lerefolo (chairperson of the Transnet School of Excellence), Helman “Midnight Express” Mkhalele (assistant coach for the national U/20 team), David Notoane (assistant coach of the SA U/20

team and Mamelodi Sundowns reserve side) and Thanduxolo Zulu (head coach of King David School). Notoane appealed to the coaches to avoid hard training shortly before matches, saying that robbed the players of energy for the game. According to the public relations and media officer at Qina Sports, Ms Nomonde Khanyile, the workshop is a way to level the ground for the U/18 school sports tournament that will be staged at the University of Venda later this year.

The guest speakers pose for a photo before the workshop started. They are, from left to right, Messrs Karabo Mogudi, Helman Mkhalele, David Notoane, Buti Lerefolo and Thanduxolo Zulu.

Fixtures The struggle for league points will continue among the affiliates of the Limpopo Stream of the Sasol Women’s League this weekend. The million-dollar question local soccer fanatics are asking themselves is which Stars will shine brighter in the match between Shayandima Morning Stars and Tshandama Young Stars. They will test each other’s strength at the Guvhukuvhu grounds on Sunday afternoon. Tshandama Young Stars are still to win a league match this season, while Morning Stars are closely contesting for the league title. It remains to be seen whether Chippas United Ladies will rise to the occasion and register their first victory this weekend. They will host the Mphanama Ladies at the Makhuvha Stadium. Chippas are languishing at the bottom of the log. The Chippas’ defenders, Olga Netshidzivhani and Khodani Ratshalingwa, will do their utmost to keep their danger area clean, and it is expected that Puo Mudimeli and Gudani Nephalama will make things happen in the middle of the park. The log leaders, Maindis FC, will travel to Botlokwa, where they will battle it out against the Botlokwa Ladies at the Sefene High School grounds. Moria Sweepers will have a date with Real Mighty Girls at the Moria grounds. Re Tla Dira Ladies will meet Sisters Ladies at the Best Man grounds and the University of Limpopo will try their luck against Team Herman at the Loloka grounds. Modimolle Ladies will pay a visit to Seven Stars at the Homu grounds in Giyani and the Moria Ladies and Kanatla Ladies will rub shoulders at the Moria grounds.

Tshiozwi Barcelona too good for Happy Boys in Limpopo Dairy match By Kaizer Nengovhela Tshiozwi Barcelona collected the maximum points against Zamenkonmste Happy Boys when they beat them 2-1 in a Limpopo Dairy match at Tshiozwi on Sunday. Happy Boys were aggressive in the opening minutes of the game, but their original stamina vanished as the game progressed. It was evident from the start

that Barcelona were going to collect full points as they outclassed Happy Boys in all departments. It took Rainbow 30 minutes to break the deadlock. Their all-rounder, Phathutshedzo “Zuma” Rasiluma, was on target, following a neat pass from Vhutshilo Nedzamba. In the second half, Barcelona scored their second goal via Tshedza Mutandari. He won the ball just behind the centre

Thulfa elective meeting aborted By Frank Mavhungu The elective congress of the Thulamela Local Football Association (Thulfa) that was held at the Makwarela Town Hall last Saturday was a failure. The meeting started well without any indication that there would be disruptions along the way. The situation took an ugly turn shortly after the league administrator, Mr Moses

Maluleke, addressed the meeting. A concerned group of people raised their dissatisfaction regarding the exclusion of Mr Aifheli Tshisikule from the nomination list. Maluleke indicated that Tshisikule was not eligible to stand for the elections on the basis that he was still serving his three-season suspension. Tshisikule was found guilty of misconduct by the disciplinary

committee of Safa Vhembe and suspended for three consecutive soccer seasons, from 2015/16 to 2017/18. Maluleke further stated that Tshisikule had exercised his right to appeal against the committee’s decision and that the appeal had been dismissed. He also said that Tshisikule had followed the legal route and taken the league to court. The case was dismissed with costs in the Thohoyandou High Court. The concerned group argued that Tshisikule was eligible to stand for the election, saying that his suspension was not in line with the league’s rules and regulations. They insisted that Tshisikule’s name be included on the nomination list and ballot papers before the elections could be held or else the election process had to stop. Realizing that the situation was getting out of hand, Maluleke said that the environment was no longer conducive to holding a free and fair election. He stated that he would take the matter up with the Safa Vhembe Regional Association in order for them to advise on the way forward, since they were the ones dealing with Tshisikule’s case.
