Dear Supporter Zoë’s Place has been in operation in Liverpool for the last 16 years. During this time, the work of the Hospice has really captured the heart of the community and the respite and palliative care at Zoë’s Place has proven to be vital to so many of the families who have benefited from our service. • ‘Without the rest and recuperation from Zoë’s Place and all the staff that work and volunteer there we wouldn't be able to look after Olivia through exhaustion alone’ • ‘Zoë’s Place offers my family a rest, the chance to go to the supermarket or shops, and even have the "odd night out"!‘ • ‘Without Zoë’s Place we would be completely lost’ The above-mentioned quotes are just some of the things our families say about Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice! However we would not exist if it wasn’t for all our wonderful supporters who work tirelessly to keep the doors of our hospice open! Inside our newsletter you will see just a small flavour of the support we have received over the last 6 months. We try to fit in as many acknowledgements as we can within the limited space. However check out our website www.zoes-place.org/liverpool which is constantly updated with news and events. You can also follow us on facebook and twitter. 18 – 25th May is Children’s Hospice Week, which culminates with Superhero Friday - a special hero inspired day of fundraising. Children's Hospice Week takes place every May and is the UK's only awareness and fundraising week for children's hospice services. Children's hospices up and down the country celebrate the week with a host of events and activities. Children's Hospice Week is a fantastic opportunity to join hundreds of others in raising funds for your local children's hospice. Check out our website for more information. Thank you all for your overwhelming support. Without your generous contributions, we simply would not be able to provide our valuable care.

Carol Kirkham, Fundraising Manager

Zoë’s Place would like to thank our local community and the business community for their overwhelming support. Without your generous contributions, we simply would not be able to provide our valuable care.

giving Regular G Why set up a regular donation? A direct debit is the most efficient way to donate to Zoë’s Place. Direct debits allow our Hospice to plan ahead, ensuring we have a reliable source of income for key projects and expenditure.

What could your regular gift buy? • £3 per month helps to fund items which are intended to enhance our special babies play and stimulation. • £5 per month helps cover the cost of NHS supplies such as latex gloves, hand gel, baby wipes, syringes. • £10 per month pays for 1 x Oxygen Cylinder. • £20 per month pays for a child to have 1 hour in the hydrotherapy pool. Please help us raise the £1,200,000 a year it costs to keep the doors of Zoë's Place Baby Hospice open for the families that rely on our vital care and support.

The new refurbishment

Baxter Healthcare Staff from Baxter Healthcare have raised a huge amount of funding from the sales of wooden pallets, all of which they have donated to our Hospice. Since 2010 this has totalled a staggering £24,400 which has and continues to make a huge difference to our Hospice.

Quality Solicitors Jackson and Canter

Cammell Laird

Georges Line Dancers

Carpet Traders Golf Society Members of the society visited Zoë's Place Baby Hospice with a fantastic cheque for £3,722 from fundraising activities (including the odd golf day of course) run over the past year. Thank you very much!

Phoenix Crafters

iation Golf Carpet Traders Assoc

We would like to say a huge thank you to the Crafters who have made 50 fantastic snuggle blankets for each of our children. Each blanket that has been made is different and incredibly detailed and will make a wonderful gift to the children we care for.

Locking Stumps Primary School

Phoenix Crafters

The school council at Locking Stumps Primary chose Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice as their charity of the year and have been involved in all sorts of fundraising activities to generate funds for our Hospice. These have included selling merchandise over the Christmas period and a river of coins that they created.

Nao Pinder

GMB Union We would like to thank the GMB North West & Ireland members for their fantastic donation of £3,500 which is one of many donations that the Union has made to support our Hospice over the years. This brings the total they have raised for us to over £10,000!

In total the workforce managed to collect £5,600 for Zoë’s Place which was then matched by the shipyards management. The idea was first thought up by a group of shipwrights who organized fundraising between the rest of the workforce, subcontractors and clients. Through challenging themselves to raise as much as they could they have really achieved a terrific target and we are very grateful for the support they continue to offer to us.

Over the past year, a number of fantastic line dancing clubs in the Maghull area, all brilliantly tutored by George Earley fundraised a total of £500 for Zoë's Place Baby Hospice.

Since 2007, the proceeds from Arriva’s annual charity golf day held at Formby Hall, including a fundraising raffle and auction, have been donated to Zoë’s Place. The charity golf day has become a regular event in the calendar, and an occasion which all participants eagerly anticipate. Once again Arriva have raised a phenomenal £20,000 for our Hospice and we would like to thank them very much for their ongoing support.

Our friends at Jackson & Canter have been fantastic supporters of ours and have helped us to generate much needed funds through Make a Will campaigns. As we look to roll out a legacy giving campaign, we asked Naomi Pinder(Head of Department for Wills & Probate at Jackson & Canter) to explain why it is so important to make a will. ‘It is very important to make a will to protect your loved ones and ensure that your wishes are carried out. You give named persons authority to act after you have died to arrange your funeral, deal with your money and property. You name who you wish to benefit - family members and charity (hopefully Zoë’s Place). For more information please contact J&C on 0151 282 1700

We would like to thank all our lovely friends who have organised so many fundraising events in their local community over the last few months. Below are just a handful of the wonderful events that you have been organising. Your support means so much to us and we send a huge thank you to you all.

Lord Derby

Name:

Lord Derby has completed a monumental 361km cycling challenge across the red sands of Jordan and has raised a staggering £ 35,000 for Zoë’s Place and Willowbrook Hospice. The 5 day cycle ride commenced on the 20th November in Jerash and followed a route through the stunningly beautiful desert of Wadi Araba and the coast of the Dead Sea before ending amongst the ornate remains of the ancient city of Petra. The route was extremely challenging and demanded a high level of fitness but was undertaken to help Zoë’s Place and Willowbrook. Lord Derby said ‘This amazing cycle challenge presents me with the opportunity to raise much needed funds for two local North West charities, Willowbrook Hospice of which I am a Patron and Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice of which my wife is a Patron. Both of these wonderful charities are very close to the hearts of my family.”

Order your Merchandise by telephone: 0151 228 0353 Textile Recycling It’s estimated that more than 1 million tonnes of textiles are thrown away each year! Currently we only recycle 25% of textiles. Textiles account for 3% of household waste. BCR can re-use and recycle almost any type of wearable textile, including t-shirts, shoes, belts etc. Textiles unsuitable for re-use are recycled. Cottons and linen are cut down to be re-used as industrial wipes. Materials such as wool are ‘pulled’ and made into fresh yarn, or re-used as felt for stuffing upholstery. We would like to encourage our supporters to put wearable clothes, shoes and other textiles into plastic bags and take them to a Zoë’s Place branded textile bank. Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice receives £200 per tonne of weighed in items. Please visit our website at www.zoes-place.org.uk/liverpool to see where your nearest textile bank is located.
