01 SPUR INTO CITY WHAT BETWEEN NATURE AND CIVILIZATION?

I t h i n k t h e r e i s a n e xt r e m e ly d e l i cat e relationship between civilization and nature, and the answers lie in human hands. So in my portfolio, I want to explore the relationship between humanity and nature, analyse how they can coexist harmoniously, and deal with the problems raised from the imbalance of humanity and nature when the urban diseases appearing unexpectedly.

With the fast development of morden c i t y, v i l l a g e h a v e b e e n s w a l l o w e d and“urban fringe”begin to appear, these places have always been inbetween spaces: in between country and city, in between nature and culture, in between obsolescence and growth, and I classify the problems raised in urban fringe in terms of social, ecology and economy. Inspired by various concepts s u c h a s " B roa d a c re C i t y " 、 " G a rd e n City ". In this program, I designed a Ziazag Boundary to prevent city from expansion and improve the condition of urban fringe, where city and country possess the most large part of physical contaction, and the fuction of city and country interinfiltration with a variety of founctional public spaces added. Thus gave a new inspiration to manage urban issues and conflicts between nature and civilization.

EXISTING FUNERAL PARLUR

View

The existing funeral parlur on the original site provide me with a chance to transfer the wasteland into a cemetery. At the same time, the terrain of the site, which contain half of flat combined with half mountain. So inspired by YIN and YANG concept from I-Ching, I extracted five space form from Luzhou Tomb stone processes and put them in the correspondent steps of funeral process, then according to the existing terrain, I designed the whole streamline of a cemetery and the master plan.

YANG AND YIN RULES From I-ching, ever ything in the world follows the rules combined by YANG and YIN, YANG represents t h e TA N G I B L E s i d e a n d Y I N represents the INTANGIBLE side. In this project, I conclude "HUMAN" a s " YA N G " , a n d " N AT U R E " as"YING", their life process as a periodic cycle from "tangible" to "intangible". Then I researched the space form of tomb stone process and try to put the from I extracted in the streamline of cemeter y design.

From the book "the image of c i t y " w r i t te n b y Ke v i n Ly n c h , path, landmark , node, edge and district work together as the fudamental infomation to measure a city, and only when they influence each other in a appropriate way can a city be energetic. So in the NaTian competition, we start our program in this kind of way to consider the NaTian site from big scale to smaller one, making the three sites become popular as well as ecological in the future.

THE IMAGE OF NATIAN LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE DESIGN Group Work:RUOCHEN ZHOU&HANFEI YANG DUTY: 65% OF THE WHOLE PROJECT RESEARCH/SCHEME/DRAFT/DESIGN OF LANDMARK/ LAYOUT/MODEL DATE:08/2017 SITE: SUQIAN, CHINA ADVISOR: HONGFEI JI In this program, we are involved in the urban-scaled problem about 3 sites in Suqian, a small city located in the north of Jiangsu Province, China. Through site research, we found that there are quite a lot problems that these 3 sites are facing with, for instance, the disconnectedness from the old town to the new one and the 3 separate sites which are supposed to be closely linked.

To deal with problems, we analyzed the greenway in Washington which is regarded as a successful achievement in landscape architecture and abstracted 5 elements from the Image of the City written by Kevin Lynch. Comparing our site with the case of success, we could see the lacking points of the public space in Suqian with the 5 elements and raise some of our resolution strategies.

URBAN DESIGN INDIVIDUAL WORK DATE:10/2017 SITE: MANAOS, BRAZIL ADVISOR: YUNCHAO TANG Now the whole world is facing the situation of population explosion, especially Brazil regions, more and more slums begin to appear.Their bad living situation is always the focus of the whole society.

dencity of population: 380 per km2 altitude of river: 7m

dencity of population: 640 per km2 altitude of river: dencity of population: 12m 400 per km2 altitude of river: 10m

So in this program, considering the specific natural enviroment that the site is near the Amazon forest and river, and the appealing history of Manaos, I decided to choose manaos as my site.Selective ly analysis the slumdogs near the river, I found that the residences there facing the common problems of both terrible lving condition and flooding, therefore I try to give a new living patterns to the poor people who originally living near the river, and play a harmonious symphony between hunman and nature.

OTHER WORKS DRONE–––– Landscape&GIS& 3D Visualisation From the book 《Taking Measures Across The American Landscape》 o f J a m e r s C o r n e r, t h e forms and geometries of landscapes are often expressed in repetitive patterns, which in turn are dictated by specific internal dynamics and relationships, or external operations which respond to site, climate, physicals, chemical process, ect. Understanding the dynamics of landscape systems can be a first step in creating new forms and patterns that can work at a landscape site scale.
