Reading: Kolerevic B. 2003. Architecture in the Digital Age
Kolerevic described three fundamental type of fabrication techniques in the reading. Outline the three techniques and discuss the potential of Computer Numeric Controlled fabrication with parametric modelling. (150 words max)
The three techniques are subtractive fabrication, formative fabrication and additive fabrication. Subtractive fabrication is remove material from a solid source. Formative fabrication is used different types of machines to make the material into a specific shape. Additive fabrication rather than remove material, it is adding material to it. CNC is put data straight computer to a occupied machine to produce products, which provide a faster production.
I generated two grasshopper pathsways of panel, to creates different geometry for different surfaces. The top script is used to generate 2D panel and the bottom one is used to create 3D panel.
Week Four Panels & Waffle
These are the four different surfaces I generated use bounding box to test the structure outcome. The surface on the left comes out with the best self-twisting structure.
From the structure, we can see the, the waffle is twisting inwards from the top and reach to the centre of the whole structure, it starts to twist outwards towards the bottom
For the panel, I generate two different types, one is 3D and the other is 2D. I wanted to test their different performs when light apply on them.
On the right hand side is the waffle structure which been break down into pieces. First, use text tag in grasshopper to create number to match each single structure piece. After label it, attatch a attractor point, then use XY plane, to layer out them horizontally. Then I bake the waffle structure make it editable in rhino. Finally, I arrange them in laser cut templet and put everything cut throught in black cut line and etch part in another different layer which been repersent in red. From laser cutting templet, we can know the importance of different layer, a well use a layer can provide us a readable and clear profile.
This is the grasshopper script of the 3D model
First, to generate a booleaned box from the shape I generated. Then use booleaneddifference command to cut this box to bring down it volumn and creates a interesting shape. As it needs to be 3D print, we need to generate carefully about the thickness of its edge and we need to make show it has a flatten side to sit on to avoid lots of support materials.

Week Six Task 01
Task 01 Matrix At first, I want an interesting form of the structure, I want it can twist on itself. Therefore, I choosed the curve surface. I have tested few and chooed one with the best twisting structure. Then I wanted to play with the panels, I want to different outcome of the shadows, so I choose to use one side as 2D and another side as 3D panel, to observe the different types of shapes generate by them.

Week Six Task 02
Task 02 Matrix When I design my task 2 , I wanted there be a link between task one and two, so I choosed the hexagon shape, as it is the same shape as my task oneâ€™s opening. I also used a attractor point to create a different layout, to make these hexagon balls to follow a trend of increase in size when towards the bottom. As, similar in my tast one, my openings are change in size due the the change in structure.
Final Isometric Views
When light come throught 3D panel, the shadow comes out more clean and sharp, and very easy to identify the different size of the hexagon openings.
The shadow doesnâ€™t come into shape, when light comes throught the 2D panel.
If the whole structure is going to work as a pavilion, I will choose to 2D panel interior and the 3D panel outwards, as due to the light effect. If Iput the 3D panel outwards, when the light throught the 3D panel, it will generate different size of hexagon shadows, as these panels are come in different size of openings, so people can explod more about the light and shadow effect.
The structure itself gives a interesting shadow, rather than just grey colour, the shadow is actually come in different layers, the shadow is fade out when generating by layers, the further the layer from the structure, the lighter the shdow is.
To test the lighting effect of the exterior of the structure, I put a light ball in between the structure, to see any difference.
