La Rotta, a small village near Pontedera COUNTRY CULTURE We haven't got enough information about this village, in the surroundings of Pontedera, because the archives were lost in Montecastello (another nearby village). We know what was built in the village, for instance in 1666 a horatory was built and later a little curch, in 1847 the “Leopolda” railway was set up, which connected Florence to Pisa, and Pontedera with the village, which improved trade.

During the XXth century the Braccini brothers founded a kiln, a very important source of income for those years, because it offered about 280 jobs and it was the first in the area capable to export abroad. “La Rotta” is mainly hilly and is famous for the nearby Braccini lake, for its “Fornace” (kiln) and for the famous Amedei chocolate factory.

AMEDEI CHOCOLATE FACTORY

In the old foundry located in “La Rotta”, now the main Amedei Factory, every year precious cocoa beans arrive from all over the world, which are transformed into chocolate after having passed the necessary phases. Amedei has discovered and developed far-away plantations all over the world where the cocoa beans are grown. In Tuscany they are just transformed into unique creations where the smell characterizes the aroma of this precious chocolate.

AMEDEI IS A DREAM WHICH TAKES THE SHAPE OF CHOCOLATE
