SCRIP

The Scrip Program is a fundraising program for the school and a method of deferring tuition payments for families. The program works by simply purchasing gift certificates to buy items that you would normally buy from your favorite merchants. Each merchant listed earns a certain percentage and that percentage will be split between you and the school. Some merchants included in the Scrip Program include: Shop-N-Save, Kohl’s, Chick-Fil-A, Wal-Mart, Panera Bread Co., Applebees and Olive Garden/Red Lobster/Longhorn. “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

WELCOME NEW TEACHERS!

Zion Lutheran School welcomed six new teachers to our faculty this school year. This month, we are going to introduce three of them to you, with a bit of personal information shared. Next month, we’ll feature the rest! We hope you enjoy getting to know a bit more about each new teachers.

Mr. Jaimee Brunkhorst Preschool Teacher “I’m excited about teaching Zion’s preschoolers and seeing how much they grow.” Jaimee is married and has four children. She has taught PreK, Kindergarten, 3rd Grade and 5th Grade. She can even sing the alphabet backwards!

Mrs. Jenny Barradas Third Grade Teacher This is my thirteenth year of teaching. I received my bachelor’s degree from McKendree. I received a Master’s Degree in Education from National Louis University. I am married, and I have two daughters. I also have a dog named Spike. My favorite Bible verse is 1 Thessalonians 5:18, which says in part, Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. When my dad passed away in 2007, this verse was a great comfort to me and continues to be. It does not say, for everything give thanks. It says IN all circumstances to give thanks. No matter what your circumstance, God has blessed us with so many things to be thankful for if we just look around at the everyday miracles He has given us! I love teaching at Zion! It is such a privilege to be able to teach in a Christ-centered environment and share my love of Jesus with boys and girls. Zion Lutheran School is the BEST place to be!

Miss Allie Sehr Fourth Grade Teacher I graduated from McKendree University in May 2016 with a BS in Education. I’m the youngest child in my family and I love being a part of the Zion family and giving students an education founded in faith. I graduated from Zion in 2007 and am an active member in the Zion Youth Small Groups. For fun, I love to water ski! My favorite bible verse is: “For I know the plans that I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Proverbs 29:11

SERVE&&COMMUNITY COMMUNITY SERVE

VOLUNTEER NEEDED

SEEKING DONATIONS:

Looking for an easy way to get involved at Zion Lutheran School that won’t require a lot of time or big comittment? We’ve got just the opportunity for you!

This October, our school will have the opportunity to participate in two community events - the Downtown Belleville Trick or Treat night as well as the SWIC Trunk or Treat. Both are slated for Friday, Oct. 28th between 5-8 p.m.

PENNIES FOR PIES

ISO a lead volunteer to run this year’s Pennies for Pies Campaign. What is PforP? Pennies for Pies is a Zion Lutheran School tradition where our students bring in change to help raise money to purchase pies for the holiday food baskets at Zion Lutheran Church. These food baskets go to those in need in our community. This is a SHORT job, just two weeks in the month of November. The majority of the work is collecting the money raised and keeping a tally of which classrooms are in the lead. If you are able to lead this project, please contact Erica Stelling at estelling@zionschoolbelleville.org. Without the help of volunteers, this ZLS tradition cannot occur, so please consider this volunteer opportunity. It is a fun one that our students get very excited about!

PENNIES FOR PIES NEEDS YOU!

CANDY, STICKERS, PENCILS, OH MY!

These are great opportunities for us to reach thousands of children and families in our community and send them home with information about our #1 school.

Donations are needed to help fill goodie bags to giveaway. Items Needed: candy (allergy-free, no peanuts/nuts, etc.) party supplies stickers pencils accessories (think Oriental Trading) boxes of snack-size ziplock bags (we need a lot :) Please consider donating an item or two...when you are at the store, pick up an extra box of ziplock bags or candy. Maybe you have some extra laying around the house - we’ll take it! A donation bin has been set up in the school office for you to drop items off at your convenience. We’d love all items in by Oct. 25.
