“WE WERE MADE TO BE COURAGEOUS”
17– 19 Prize Patrol @ library Kindergarten Field Trip Day, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Rain date May 18th).
The month of May in our school year is filled with so much excitement and anticipation about the end of the school year. We are ready to take a break from the hard work and effort we’ve put forth for the previous nine months, and we look forward to the fun and the sun that summer brings. So, with all this energy and joy filling our halls, why would we choose to focus on “Courage” this month? At this time of year, I am thinking about Zion Lutheran School’s 8th grade class of 2016. Some of our graduates have only known school as it exists at Zion, and all of them are going from a class size of 17 to 700! In the midst of all the energy and excitement, I’m sure there’s some fear - of getting lost on campus, of who they’ll eat lunch with at school, of new classmates and teachers, of the unknown. And what about the rest of our students - some of whom will be moving to a new area and a new school, but even the students returning to Zion will do so to a new classroom and teacher. Who knows what the next year will bring? I have allowed fear to control my emotions and decisions quite a number of times in my life. God has assigned some tasks to me that I would have rather avoided, but my fears must be faced in order to experience growth so that God can use me the way He wants and bless me in the way He wants. So, the question is: How in the world do I look Satan in the eye and tell him he can’t use fear to defeat me? Courage. Courage helps us tackle problems that new, different, or larger than our average challenges. It is an attitude that does not consider failure in the face of opposition. This doesn’t make us full of ourselves but rather filled with the Spirit. He promises that we will not fail when facing our fear because God is on our side and He will fight for us. “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9. Be strong and courageous because our world needs to raise up Christ followers who are strong and courageous. Be strong and courageous to show our children that we have nothing to fear because the Lord goes before us. Be strong and courageous because it brings out God’s best in us. May God bless you and your families in our final weeks. May He fill with strength and courage to face your schedules and to-do lists in this busy month. May He comfort you with the assurance that He is with you wherever you go and whatever you do this summer and always. Thank you for an amazing school year.
