A Prayer Sister is someone you are partnered with for a year, whom you remember in daily prayer. You may also send cards and/or gifts for special occasions, or whenever God moves you to do so; He knows when she needs a day brightener. Next December, the identity of your Prayer Sister is revealed to you at the annual Christmas Tea. Today is the last day to sign up for the 2012 program. Please stop by the information desk and pick up the RED form (also available online).
Q: Do you have any tips for end-of-the-year giving? A: I’m not an expert but consider this: You may increase your tax savings with a gift of property. If you have appreciated properties (such as stocks, bonds, etc.) that will produce long-term capital gains when sold, donating them directly to a charity will generally provide a bigger tax savings than selling them and sending the charity cash after the sale. And what’s more, if you can’t use all of the income tax charitable deduction resulting from the gift, you can carry it forward for up to an additional five years. Such gifts are deductible up to 30 percent of your adjusted gross income. Before making any significant gift to the Zion Lutheran, or to any other nonprofit for that matter, you should have your CPA, attorney or other advisor help you understand the impact of your gift on your income tax return and estate.

Mission Trip to AKCLI in Africa-Summer 2012 As part of our Global Mission partnership, Minda Squadroni is taking a group of people to the Village of Hope in Zambia in the summer of 2012. It will be a two week trip, tentatively set for July 25 through August 10. Already five adults have said that they would be part of this team. We will be volunteering our time and talents while we are there. Any talents that you have can and will be used at the Village. The Village is co-founded by Minda Squadroni’s sister and brother-in -law, Kathleen and Benedict Schwartz. Approximate cost for the trip is $4000 which will include your passport, shots and prescriptions, plane fair (approx. $2500), daily room and board- $50 per day, spending money, and money for a possible trip to Victoria Falls. We will be fund raising at church to help defray costs. If you are interested, please contact Minda Squadroni at firstname.lastname@example.org or 682-4064. The deadline to sign up is Jan. 31, 2012. Informational meetings will be set up as needed. The trip will be an exciting way to share our faith in our global community.
