Con il metodo Malossi, i sordociechi possono comunicare tra di loro e con gli altri attraverso la mano toccando e pizzicando leggermente le varie parti di essa, che corrispondono ad una precisa lettera dell'alfabeto. dbGLOVE è un display tattile: il sordocieco può ricevere il testo sotto forma di stimoli tattili. Oltre ad essere un mezzo per l’inclusione sociale, dbGLOVE permette di leggere documenti, mandare e-mail, navigare su Internet, spostarsi con l’aiuto del GPS, e tante altre applicazioni. With the Malossi method, deafblind can communicate among themselves and with others through hand tapping and pinching slightly its different parts, which correspond to a precise letter of the alphabet. dbGLOVE is a touch screen device: deafblind can receive the text as a tactile stimulus. As well as being a tool for social inclusion, dbGLOVE allows you to read documents, send e-mails, surf the Internet, move around with the GPS, and many other applications.

Fonti di riflessione sono stati i bracci robotici e le lampade scialitiche. La forma dei bracci non è soltanto un vezzo stilistico ma richiama la morfologia ossea di un arto, che si completa con le sue superfici articolari, ovvero i giunti, per creare una totale armonia di movimento. The robotic arms and the surgical light were the main inspiration source. The shape of the arms was a reference to the bone morphology of a limb,“Arto”, which is completed by the articulated surfaces that bring harmony to the project’s movement.

The mechanical system used is based on the clutch forces operating in circular its joints, that allow a gradual and smooth variation of the position. The choice was dictated by the need to avoid complex mechanical systems, which would require a high number of components.

L’ottica utilizzata è di tipo ellittico fornita di led. Illumina molto intensamente e in maniera uniforme in modo da evitare la proiezione di ombre.

The chosen lamp is an elliptical-LED lamp. which illuminates in a very intense and uniform way in order to avoid the shades’ projection.

Based on a careful analysis of the Chinese market of air conditioning systems, the concept focus on recovering condensed water from air conditioning systems. The variety of different climatic zones in the Asian country directs the project towards a solution that can satisfy the needs of different climatic zones.

Il risultato è un sistema di condizionazione che include la possibilità di umidificare e deumidificare, ottenendo il livello di benessere desiderato. L'acqua di condensa filtrata viene regolata grazie ad un sensore di peso e ad un elettrovalvola che decide il flusso nei vari casi.

XSTEAM / EVs for urban cleaning Xsteam is an electric quadricycle designed for cleaning and sanitizing roads, specifically for poorly accessible areas and historical centers. The EV is equipped with a waste compartment and a machine that generates dry saturated steam, useful for cleaning and sanitizing surfaces that are delicate and dirty. Extensive studies were made on the energy expenditure and ergonomics of existing vehicles. FEM analysis on the frame and engineering of bodies have demonstrated the feasibility of the project, with the potential to be inserted in the municipal fleet of the City of Milan.

Studies and research of the company which does the Milan environmental system managment were made due to a having a better understanding about critical areas and where such a product could be integrated.

The research reveled the complexity for the operators to reach specific areas such alleys and inaccesible zones for the existing veichles. Xsteam EV makes possible the access to such areas, allowing easly cleaning and hygiene by the operator.

Soap dispenser wall bracket A producer of hygienic paper, who’s mission it is to develop innovative solutions for better toilet hygiene in combination with exceptional environmental performance. The assignment was to design a new soap dipenser with a double use: wall mounted and self standing. The defined scenario was the hotel industry. The design of the dispencer was already defined and my task was to support the development of the wall bracket for either a single dispencer or group of three dispensers. For the design concepts we defined two routes: invisible and visible bracket.

Possibile solutions for the bracket were defined in terms of simplification of the production process and shape. The final shape is well aligned with the existing dispenser. Digital illustations have allowed the exploration of product graphic solutions for the different dispensers. Afterwards, 3d modeling and fast conceptual renderings were used to show concepts for a rack and single.

CONCEPT DESIGN

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

I have been involved in this project during my internship period at VanBerlo, a design agency based in Eindhoven, Netherlands. My task was developing a design for the new model which should preseve the image of a products family based on the SPG Pike, a machine that has already been designed within the studio. The first step was to understand the machine’s operations and its new architecture. During the concept phase, an in-depth study of the design lines was made to reach the best design alignment with the company product family line.

Careful reflections were made about ergonomics and operators work line. The operators of this printer are located in different countries and the challenge was draw up a common line between design and functionality.

During the design development, different solutions for the service doors as well as the mechanical movements were explored. Meetings with the client helped to gain precious feedbacks in order to define the optimal final solution.

OVERALL In the practice of off-road skating reaching the maximum fatigue level it turns out to be much more rapid than conventional surfaces. This is mainly due to the soil conditions. In fact, over rough terrain, dirt roads and grassy areas the effort is amplified because of the irregularity of the terrain, characterized by the presence of debris and obstacles. Another crucial aspect is definitely linked to the weight of the product itself. In fact, the off-road shoes models are definitely more heavy and this is mainly due to a fundamental component: the wheel. Off-road skating wheels are completely different from the other disciplines. In fact the wheels are pneumatic, reach a diameter of 125 mm and may be subject to puncture.

Freeline project aims to address the design of a pair of inline skates suitable for use in an off-road environment, through the functional optimization of the main components. FEATURES Due to peculiarities of its use, it is essential that the skate allows a high degree of control and stability on uneven ground. Stability was the starting point for the choice of a three wheel set up of 110mm and a shorter frame that allows the lowering of the center of gravity and shortening the distance between the wheels. The overall design is asymmetrical respecting the biomechanics of the human body supporting an optimal energy transmission. The skates are composed of three main independent components: the boot, the frame and the wheels. The main features are: - The accordion integrates the cuff on the shell - The shell subdivision in three control zones which improve the control of the fit - The use of airless tires.

SHELL The openings on the shell allow a firmer and more precise fitting with respect to the anatomy of the foot. This subdivision greatly increases the degree of bending and allows it to independently control the respective areas of the foot, obtaining a better winding of the dorsal area. An EVA insole covering the entire sole of the foot provides greater protection against vibration and stress.

THE BOOT The boot is equipped with two micrometer buckles and a lower buckle. These allow a great control of the pressure applied on the foot. The lower buckle is placed on the dorsal area. It replaces the classic laces and allowing a more controlled and anatomical accurate fit. A tongue covers the entire dorsal area of the boot and it is hooked to the hull in the area tip. The accordion acts as flexion point recreating the typical ankle joint movement. This architecture allows the hull decrease the drilling and riveting operations which would increase time and costs during production and assembly.

THE WHEEL In off-road skating, it is common to use pneumatic tires. These ensure both the traction needed to travel on uneven ground and a discrete absorption of the stress and vibrations transmitted to the foot. The disadvantage of this type of wheel is that it is a subject to punctures. In addition they have a large size and weight such as to greatly increase the fatigue. Freeline is equipped with a set of 3 wheels NPT (non-pneumatic tire) of 110 mm, achieving a reduction in weight and increased stability.
