TROY ZINSMEISTER INDUSTRIAL DESIGNER
DESIGN PORTFOLIO 2014
My name is Troy Zinsmeister, I was born in the city but grew up in the country. My dad instilled core values in me from a very young age that hard work and responsibility will someday get me where I want to go; those beliefs are still rooted deep in my character to this day. Growing up on a ranch, I was naturally curious of the world around me, constructing barns and fences, I quickly became fascinated how things were made and put together. Taking a-part many remote control cars and radios as a kid I would try and combine different motors and cars together. I have a strong passion for sports and outdoor activities; snowboarding and personal fitness being two of my favorites. I am very experimental, passionate, and can be obsessive at times. With all my abilities I have the power to develop and create concepts that yield a lasting relationship between objects and users.

What is wrong?
Traditional blenders are designed in a very vertical orientation causing a strain on the users’ hand and wrist.
Young people who live alone for the first time or with a roommate in an apartment that don’t typically own a food processor, or large blender. Hand blenders are small but powerful, and often come with different attachments making it a multi-use kitchen tool and great space saver in the kitchen.
With young professionals fresh out in the real world or still in college money can be a tight issue for many. So we wanted to make it affordable for anyone on a tight budget.

K.I.D. (kid’s interactive diagram) is a system designed for a not for profit clinic that tackles the core issue of communication breakdown between the doctor, patient and parent.
Hope Clinic is a private, not for profit, community-based health center located in Houston, Texas. Lead by the CEO, Dr. Andrea Caracostis, and the Medical Director, Dr. Richard Andrews, HOPE Clinic has a multicultural and multilingual professional staff.

Dr. Richard Andrews
NURSE - PATIENT: interaction analysis Taking a look at the nurse’s task analysis there is a break down in communication between nurse and patient.
Disconnect in the system There is a major break down in any type of communication between doctor, child and parent.
A closer look at the disconnect in the system: What does it mean for different patients
Depending upon the age, how good they speak English and if they are enrolled in school all depends on how effective the communication between the doctor, child and parent will be.
Bringing the system together
Close the gap
The final design is a 3 step system which closes the gaps in the system through COMMUNICATION techniques, applied EDUCATION, and reinforcement of knowledge through a HOME IMPLEMENTATION tool.
EDUCATION,HOME IMPLEMENTATION: An educational tool that helps reinforce what the child learns at the doctor’s office, at home.
Flat pack diagram able to be made into a doctors bag
COMMUNICATION, EDUCATION, HOME IMPLEMENTATION: An educational tool that promotes portion control through visual cues of the basic food groups.
Divides the plate into distinct food group sections.
Large Intestine Small Intestine
Each section is labeled with icons representing that food group
COMMUNICATION, EDUCATION: Interactive diagram is placed in the examination rooms as a visual aid for doctors.
Each organ comes out to explain patients problems.
The back of each organ has an icon of foods that are recommended for that body part.

Elevated roof for air circulation
Clear glass for safety
By placing a pigment onto a glass panel, it drys to create a film on the glass surface which then absorbs and transforms the suns rays into clean energy.
An OLED (organic lightemitting diode) is a lightemitting diode (LED) which uses very minimal power.
To ease passengers troubles, a smart touch screen will be incorporated to provide an easy alternative to find what routes to take.
Incorporated on the roof is a hexagonal pattern that provides shade from the back of the shelter and graduates up towards the front of the shelter. The hexagonal pattern also serves as the thin film solar panels that powers the shelter.
The way finding screen well incorporate the OLED not only for very minimal power consumption bvut for security reasons as no one can hide behind it.
The way finding screen well provide bus stop name, current date and time , real time bus information, route numbers with color indicators, bus stops on each route and as well as a full metro map.
