Confetti Zine was created to celebrate LGBTQ+ History Month 2021 at Leeds Arts University. It is named after a gay club night in Leeds organised by Terry George in the late 80’s and early 90’s. After gaining popularity, with crowds reaching over a thousand partiers from all over the country, the gay club night travelled to other cities around the UK.
LGBTQ+ History Month is important to celebrate and raise awareness of the progress which has been made over the past years, and continue promoting equality and diversity within society. Despite this progress which has been made, LGBTQ+ History Month is essential in continuing to educate people on the ongoing issues which LGBTQ+ people still face.
The theme of this year’s LGBTQ+ History Month is ‘Body, Mind & Spirit’, which is linked to the National Curriculum subject PSHE.
In this issue, we will be exploring LGBTQ+ historical events, people of interest, platforms for LGBTQ+ creatives, LGBTQ+ friendly places in Leeds, LAU’s Spectrum Society and more.
