Windows ‘Windows-the boundless world’ is about a transparent boundary between the individual and the world. This project started with Ji Yoon’s personal experience of living in a transition period of two different eras. The concept of work is based on the liquidity and the solidity from ‘The liquid modernity’ by Zygmunt Bauman and the critical notion of a transparent boundary in Byungchul Han’s ‘The transparent society’. In the video, through the characteristic of a window that separates inward and outward at a place and the expression of spatial extinction, Ji Yoon narratively pointing out the situation of these days that has ambiguity boundary between the individual and the world.

1. Window as a border of era

The window

These days globally nations having a war of speed. Recently Korea has launched 5G as the first in the world. As Korea is in the major group in speed war, a harsh competition is basic here. Because I was born in the ’90s when the mobile start to appear, I have a character of fluidity. However, the character of the era I had lived in youth was the opposite. In 1950 -1953, Korea has made the miracle on the Han River. Since that time, Korea has been focusing on economic efficiency and labour productivity. The character of the era was very stiff, quick and comparison. This character still remains in society. According to the policy of the ministry of education in the ‘90s, students had to be in school until class ends, which was 8 am to 11 pm. After school ends, students took another study academies class or study with a personal tutor at home as their parents designed. So we loved window seats. The window scene made us dream about space that free and fluid from where we adhered on a square desk in a square concrete place.
