—————WEEKLY OFFERINGS————– Thank you for your continuing support of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish. For the fiscal year July 1, 2010 June 30, 2011, our parish budget calls for $22,232.00 to be donated weekly in October at the Sunday collection. The collection for Sunday, October 31, 2010 was $17,163.35 in addition to approximately $1,045.40 which is donated weekly in October via automatic debit. The collection is not only used for operating expenses each week, but also for any ongoing repair work, upgrades, etc. to our parish facility.

————————— RCIA———————-—— RCIA is open to anyone interested in joining, returning to the Catholic Church or learning more about our faith. It is not too late to join. Nursery - Ages 1-3 years Located in the Kindergarten Room during 9:30 Mass. Provides babysitting while parents attend Mass. Parents are asked to give time helping if possible.

Nov. 16th -The presentation will be on the Holy Eucharist and afterward we will all enjoy a Potluck Thanksgiving dinner. Further details will be discussed in class.

Sunday School - Ages 3-5 years Located at OLA School during 9:30 Mass. The program includes lessons & crafts about church, God, & the Bible.

Nov. 23rd - Advent & the Church Calendar. We will discuss the Liturgical Calendar, the Colors of the Year and their meaning. (Advent begins, Sunday, Nov. 28th).

Liturgy of the Word - Grades 1-5 Begins in church during 9:30 Mass. The children are called during Mass to process from the church to the hall with a teacher for their own age-appropriate Liturgy of the Word and discussion of the readings.

Nov. 30th - Prayer Experience: Lectio Divina / Personal Encounter with God.

Congratulations to Pat Groff and Fr. Steve for being honored by the Los Angeles Archdiocese Department of Catholic Schools! One principal and one pastor were chosen from each region based upon nominations sent to the DCS staff. Pat and Fr. Steve were selected to represent the Santa Barbara region for their hard work and dedication to Our Lady of the Assumption School. They will be featured on the new, upcoming Catholic Schools website. School ID #137316848 Our Lady of the Assumption School Fresh & Easy is a new neighborhood market located 5101 Telegraph and Day Rd. They are also helping our school by offering a “save the receipt program” that runs from Sept. 15th thru Dec. 31st. Every $20 receipt earns OLA School $1.00. ————Safeguard The Children————-The establishment of the Office of Safeguard the Children in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and the formation of Safeguard the Children Parish Committees in the parishes were mandated by Cardinal Roger Mahoney in 2002. The Office of Safeguard the Children assists these permanent Parish Committees in implementing child sexual abuse prevention education, Safe Environment policies, procedures and resources.

Adults and Teens: Adult & Teens: What is a date and time that you will set aside to remember all that God has done for you?

Children: Draw a picture or write a story of how Jesus has helped you live as one of his followers.

Did You Know? Protecting children from Abuse Office of Assistance Ministry Helps Victims The Office of Victims Assistance Ministry of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles deals with allegations of past or current sexual abuse by clergy, religious and any lay person working or volunteering for the archdiocese. The office was charged with creating a safe and compassionate environment for victims to come forward, while ensuring that civil authorities are notified and victims are provided counseling and other assistance in the healing process. Directed by Suzanne Healy, the office also advises Catholic parishes and schools coping with issues of sexual abuse of minors. Ms. Healy may be reached by calling 213-637-7650. Parish Spirituality & Fellowship The OLA Environment ministry would like to thank the McGrath Brothers Great Pacific Pumpkins on Olivas Park Drive in Ventura. For at least five years now they have donated the pumpkins for our Halloween/ Thanksgiving display on the altar. We would like to sincerely thank the McGrath Family for this generous gift to our Autumn sanctuary environment.

The Spiritual Books Discussion Group meets on the second Monday of each month in the Santa Cruz room of the parish center. ——————Hermits of St. Giles—————— Hi Everyone, The Hermits of St. Giles is an association of disabled men and women who are home bound because of chronic illness and disability. We still love to serve the Church in some way. Therefore, our ministry to the Church is to offer the sufferings that stem from illness for the sake of all. We offer intercessory prayer by way of Prayer Request Books that can be found in the main church and in St. Julie's Chapel. —————Santa Needs Your Help————— It's time for Fr. Steve's 2010 Toy Drive! We have a wonderful trip planned to help a parish very much in need, and this year it's in California! All are welcome to join us, so look for details in the upcoming bulletins. We will also continue to help hundreds of families right here in Ventura to see their children smile on Christmas morning. Please bring new, unwrapped, toys to the decorated toy box in the back of the church during weekend Mass times or to the rectory office during the week. No items requiring batteries please. ————Holiday Food Baskets————-— NON-PERISHABLE FOOD items are needed for Thanksgiving food baskets. Food items are to be placed in the food box in the church vestibule. When shopping pick-up some extra items for the food baskets. All non-perishable food items are always accepted. This week: Canned Beans (All types) are highlighted. Please check that item labels are within expiration date. If you wish for us to do the shopping for you, make the donation to OLA Food Basket. —————Eucharistic Adoration————— Location: St. Julie’s Chapel St. Julie’s Chapel is open from 8am to 9pm DAILY. You do not need to be signed up for an hour of adoration to stop by the chapel to pray and enjoy some personal time with God. Please stop by anytime to pray for a few minutes or as long as you like!

Last year Our Lady of the Assumption Parish was extremely generous in helping the Moorpark Youth Activities Committee in collecting holiday dresses for little girls from low-income or disadvantaged families. Once again we are we are looking for dresses for girls sizes newborn to girls 7 - 14. Dresses may may be dropped off at the Rectory for pickup. Our Lady of the Assumption Parish is in need of volunteers for transporting fellow parishioners to and from medical and dental appointments. This would include picking up the person from their residence, helping them into the vehicle, driving to the appropriate office, helping the person into the office, waiting for the appointment to complete, and transporting the person back home. We are looking for volunteers who have flexible schedules to assist with this important ministry. The appointments would be scheduled at least a week in advance. November 14, 2010 Tender Life Maternity Home provides a loving and supportive environment for women who desire to carry their babies to term but lack the necessary means and emotional support to do so. Baby bottles will be available after all Sunday Masses Nov. 14th under the outdoor awning during friendship Sunday.
