—————— Adult Bible Study ——————

“What is the reason for your hope?” Imagine somebody coming up to you and asking you that question. Not “What are you hoping for?” or “What are you hoping to do?” No, this isn’t about our desires for possessions or aspirations for life, it’s “Why do you hope?” Peter today tells us that we ought to be ready to give an answer to this question. Truth be told, few of us spend much time thinking about why we hope. Luckily, the scriptures today give us our answers. We hope because Christ suffered for us, in order that we might come to God. We hope because we know that, in the Spirit, God grants us another Advocate through Christ to remain with us always. No matter what we might hope for, whatever we might hope to do, we must always first know and proclaim the reason for our hope: the presence of God in Christ, with us through the power of the Spirit.

The group meets on Tuesdays, at 9:00am in the Parish Center, Santa Cruz Room. Our evening Bible Study continues to meet weekly on Tuesdays at 7:00pm in Hurley Hall. No registration required to attend either group. NEW members can join each week. For more information please contact Fr. Steve at 642-7966 All are Welcome!

——— Welcome Table Hosts Needed ———

Did You Know? Protecting children from Abuse

Please consider volunteering some time after Mass to help out with the Welcome Table. All that is needed is about 30 minutes, after one or two Masses each month. This is a great way to volunteer as a family and to get to know new Parishioners. It is also a great way to share your talents and time with the Parish and to make each person coming into Assumption Hall feel “part of the OLA family.”

Know the ‘Parent Warning Codes’ Text messaging is an increasingly integral part of the way young people communicate with their friends. But like other forms of communication, it can expose children to outside threats and unwanted contacts, even from sexual predators. That’s why it is important for parents to monitor their child’s use of text messaging. Young people are aware of their parents’ supervision and have developed text codes in response. These parent warning codes are codes that kids use to let whomever they are talking to know that it is not safe to talk. If you see these codes, you should instantly be suspicious. For example, “MOS” means “Mom over shoulder,” and “PIR” means “Parent in room.” A helpful tutorial for parents is located at Type: “How to understand your kids’ text messages” in the search box. For particular help, you may call Assistance Ministry at 213-637-7650.

————— ¿Sabía Usted? —————
