——— Welcome Table Hosts Needed ——— Please consider volunteering some time after Mass to help out with the Welcome Table. All that is needed is about 30 minutes, after one or two Masses each month. This is a great way to volunteer as a family and to get to know new Parishioners. It is also a great way to share your talents and time with the Parish and to make each person coming into Assumption Hall feel “part of the OLA family.”

Monitoring Your Child’s Text Messages Recent news reports included the story of a 35year-old man exchanging explicit text messages with a 14-year-old girl. Being able to recognize text messaging “meeting codes” can help parents be more effective monitors of their child’s safety. Meeting codes are used by strangers to gain information about people they don’t know or to arrange a first meeting. They can be used between friends, but most are more commonly used in other circumstances. For example, “S2R” means “Send to receive (pictures),” and “WYRN” means “What’s your real name?” A helpful tutorial for parents is located at Type: “How to understand your kids’ text messages” in the search box. For particular help, you may call Assistance Ministry at 213-637-7650.

————— Hermits of St. Giles —————— Hello to You, What happens when you begin to pray? Isn't the mind filled with 1000 distractions? During the day we are racing around trying to get our work done or take care of our family, but when we physically slow down our mind continues to move at jet speed. A priest friend of mine once told me that distractions are much like airplanes constantly flying over head, we know that they are there but we ignore them as we go about our business. We pay no attention to them. Unless of course there are bombs attached to them. When we settle in to begin a little time for Our Lord, remember that our distractions are much like those airplanes. They are there but let them just pass over us and continue to focus on your intimate communion with Love. Have a most blessed week. Yours in Christ Jesus, Bro.Mark
