—–——— Safeguard The Children ——–——
———— Fr. Steve’s Annual Toy Drive ———
The establishment of the Office of Safeguard the Children in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and the formation of Safeguard the Children Parish Committees in the parishes were mandated by Cardinal Roger Mahoney in 2002. The Office of Safeguard the Children assists these permanent Parish Committees in implementing child sexual abuse prevention education, Safe Environment policies, procedures and resources.
This year we invite you to join us in taking toys to the Mixteco community in South Oxnard as they celebrate with a fiesta on December 17th. We are collecting NEW, UNWRAPPED toys for the Mixtecos and for the needy children of our community. No battery operated toys please. Dolls, cars, art and craft sets, sports equipment, and games are all popular items. Drop off in the back of the church on weekends and in the rectory office during the week. If you would also like to provide a local family in need with a tree and a Christmas meal please pick a stocking from the Faith at Home room and contact Krisztina. Thank you for your generosity. Questions? Please contact Krisztina at 818 469-3973 or email@example.com
Click on http://www.archdiocese.la/protecting/ for more information. All volunteers working with or around children must be fingerprinted through the Archdiocese and be certified in the Safeguard the Children Program Protecting God’s Children. Information for both fingerprinting and Safeguard Classes are listed below. The Virtus training must be updated every 4 years. However, instead of the 3hour Protecting God's Children program, people can recertify by completing the 1.5 hour Keeping the Promise Alive program. Fingerprinting does not need to be repeated.”
——–———— Many Meals ——————— We have fed 1649 people since June 20th.
What we do: Serve a free home-cooked meal every week.
VIRTUS-KEEPING THE PROMISE ALIVE Recertification Program
Why: To help those struggling to make ends meet. When: Monday nights at 6 to 7 p.m. in Assumption Hall

Parish Spirituality & Fellowship First Sunday of Advent 2011 The first Sunday of Advent marks the beginning of the new liturgical year. We transition from the Gospel of Matthew to the Gospel of Mark. The liturgical colors change from the predominance of green to purple. We go into preparation mode, both in Church and in our neighborhoods and stores. We see signs of the coming season which brings joy, excitement and a new cycle to our salvation journey. Throughout the year, our work and our goal is to grow together as a community of friendship, of relationships and of faith. It is a communal and participatory effort. It includes individuals, families, all age groups and all ministries. In essence, it is an outcome of the cross-generational people of God living and Growing In Faith Together. It is our G.I.F.T. to our God, to our families and to our neighbors. Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Community actively encourages and makes available many activities and opportunities to keep us Growing In Faith Together. During this liturgical season, at the start of each entrance procession for Sunday Mass, we carry the banner, "Growing In Faith Together". It is a visual reminder of our goal for this liturgical season of preparation for the coming of the Christ child. By focusing on our goal, we can overcome tremendous personal and social obstacles, and prepared for the birth of the Child, Jesus. As the parents of Jesus prepared, we are to prepare. We are to prepare ourselves, our families; we are to share our preparation with our community. The theme for the Gospel this Sunday is "be watchful, be prepared". It is direction for us to become involved in the unfolding of the story of Jesus, which requires preparation and participation in our faith community, to grow in faith together, to share our gift of faith. We are to share our salvation journey. People grow in faith through encountering and receiving Christ in the Word and the Eucharist, and from one another. Families and faith communities pass on and share their faith. It involves a partnership of generations, of individuals and families within each community. Ultimately, our faith is not just about what we do, but about what God does in and through us. At the heart of our Growing In Faith Together is God's unconditional gift of grace, and our response as individuals, families and community.
———————–————— Advent Wreaths for Sale ————–———–———— Advent wreaths and candles are now for sale. They can be purchased today after Mass in the front of the church or in the Parish office during the week. Wreaths and candles = $10 Candles only = $5
—————–————— Advent Prayer Angels —————–———— This year we will once again offer our parishioners the opportunity to pray for one another through the presence of our Advent Prayer Angel Tree. On the first Sunday of Advent, Angel ornaments will be distributed at each Mass. Each person will be asked to write their personal intentions on the Angel ornament and place them in a basket on the altar. On the second Sunday of Advent, the ornaments will adorn the Prayer Angel tree in the sanctuary. All will be invited to visit the tree and choose an Angel or Angels to take home with them and pray for the particular intention written on the ornament. Blank Angels will also be available so that additional Angel intentions may be added to the tree as the season progresses. The tree will remain and we will continue to pray for all the Angel intentions throughout the Advent season. Please consider giving and receiving the powerful gift of Prayer as we await the coming of our Lord. - 7-

In The Community
————– Colecta de Juguetes 2011 ———
————– Advent Day of Reflection ————
