Prayer for Priestly Vocations Father, in every generation you provide ministers of Christ and the Church. We come before you now, asking that you call forth more men to serve our Archdiocese in the ministerial priesthood. Give us priests who will lead and guide your holy people gathered by Word and Sacrament. Bless us with priestly vocations so that we can continue to be a truly Eucharistic Church, strengthened in our discipleship of Jesus Christ, your Only Son. Raise up, we pray, men who are generous in their service, willing to offer their lives and all their gifts for your greater glory and for the good of your people. We make our prayer in the presence and power of the

Extra-ordinary Minister of the Eucharist Training
The EDGE-Junior High Ministry Questions—Contact Zach at 642-7966 ext. 125
There will be a training session for anyone interested in becoming an extra-ordinary minister of the Eucharist on Thursday, July 11 at 7:00 p.m. in the church. Current EMs interested in a “refresher course” are welcome to attend.
Life Teen Youth Ministry Please keep our youth and others who are traveling to Nicaragua this week for a missions trip in your prayers.
Qualifications for EMs include being fully initiated into the Catholic Church (Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation), being a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church, having a love and devotion to the Eucharist, possessing the gift of hospitality, and being willing to engage in ongoing formation. The role of the EM, like that of all liturgical ministries, is more than simply a practical function. The action of ministering the Eucharistic body and blood of Christ is, above all, a service of love performed in faith for the good of the c om mu n i t y . We are looking for additional members of our parish who may feel called to this ministry (either serving at Mass and/or taking the Eucharist to those who are home bound, to come forward and offer their gifts in support of this important ministry. Questions in advance of the meeting can be directed to Dn. Don & Diana Huntley at firstname.lastname@example.org, or 642-7966 x123.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
To list your anniversary, please email email@example.com by the Friday of the week before you wish it published.
It’s high summer now, school is out, the pace of work slows, and some people drift away. There are visitors in the churches every summer, and familiar faces are “among the missing.” Some find the summer’s call more appealing than the summons of the church bells. Many, however, would not dream of missing a Sunday, and so they make their way to Mass in unfamiliar places, watching the locals for clues as to when to sit or stand, where the Communion stations are. In answering the call, they keep the “sabbatical” rhythm of the Christian life: every seventh day, the Body of Christ assembles for worship. For centuries, there was no obligation to Sunday Mass in the sense of a written law, but Christians have always yearned to be together on Sunday. In the city of Abitina, during a persecution by the Emperor Diocletian, a group of Christians were urged to stop worshiping together on Sundays. They responded, “Then take our lives, for without the Sunday we cannot live.” By a curious coincidence, the appointed readings today center us on thoughts of peace. On our Independence Day, the experience of worship situates us in community, and evokes a commitment from us to be advocates of peace in all aspects of our society’s life.

Parish Spirituality & Fellowship Year of Faith: Finishing Strong Have you enjoyed prayerfully walking this faith journey initiated by Pope Emeritus Benedict last October (and ending this November)? Are you surprised how quickly the year has gone and wish you had been more connected to this spiritual opportunity? Whether you identify with either statement or find yourself falling somewhere in between, this July presents an opportunity to "finish strong" in living this Year of Faith. Mark you calendars for Tuesday July 9, 16, 23 & 30 for a four part Scripture centered journey focused on the Year of Faith. Each night interested parishioners will gather from 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the Santa Cruz room with Deacon Don as facilitator. As a group we will use the book, "The Year of Faith: A Bible Study Guide For Catholics", by Fr. Mitch Pacwa, S.J. to grow in knowledge of this incredible and unique spiritual gift known as the Year of Faith. Anyone interested is asked to contact Deacon Don at 642-7966 x123 or RCIA@ola-vta.org in order to order the book and for more detailed information.

Hermits of St. Giles Greetings, In our beautiful United States many of our beloved ancestors worked very hard for the freedoms we now enjoy. It took over 200 years for the gifts we share today. I love the song, "America, the Beautiful," with its lyrics, "O beautiful for spacious skies and for purple mountains majesties above the fruited plain!" When I look upon the mountains in Ventura next to Ojai in the evening time I see the purplish colors and they are so beautiful. I thank God for the beauty that surrounds us. I thank God for the parish I belong to and I ask Our Lady of the Assumption to please keep us all under the mantle of Her love. That She will protect our Church family and that we will continue to care for each other and our surrounding community. Pax et Bonum, B.Mark

Many Meals will be having a fundraiser at Presto Pasta on Monday, July 15th. Please pick up a flyer at the Welcome Table at Friendship Sunday or print one from the OLA website to take when purchasing your meal at Presto Pasta on July 15th. 20% will be donated to our Many Meals ministry.
Many Meals serves our parish family as well as the community as a whole. Our guests come for a hot meal as well as wonderful fellowship. We are blessed with a dedicated group of volunteers doing many different types of jobs to provide this meal service every week. For those who might not be familiar with how the program works, we have a crew who cooks the meal in our kitchen at Mulcahy Center. All of the ingredients for the meal are donated by our generous parishioners. The meal is then transported catering style, to the meal service location where there are several groups of volunteers who set up the hall, do all the kitchen prep, greet and serve our guests, assist them during the meal and clean up.
Amen Grupo de Oración de la Divina Misericordia
If you are interested in becoming involved in the Many Meals program, please email David at email@example.com. We will add you to our distribution list and you will receive a weekly email with the work crew and food donations needed for that week. The program is set up to be very flexible for our volunteers. It is not necessary to make a long term commitment. You simply respond to the email with what you would like to donate or which crew you are available to work with for that particular week. We are currently in need of monetary donations to help us make ends meet. Thank you!
