Weekly Reflection

Reflexión Semanal

Spring: Nature’s Alleluia

La primavera: El Aleluya de la Naturaleza

“May your people exult for ever, O God, in renewed youthfulness in spirit” (Collect). This is our prayer during this Easter season. Spring is upon us and new life is everywhere. God’s spring tapestry calls us, regardless of age, to be ever “youthful” and renewed in our confident hope of the resurrection. In today’s first reading, Peter recounts the words of David that proclaimed the promise of the Messiah. We cherish the patient waiting of our Jewish brethren but understand as Peter writes in the second reading that the promise has been fulfilled because God “raised Jesus from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.” This is our faith and we pray that it grows stronger with every passing day. Nature mirrors the cycle of our lives and so when life’s challenges and sorrows wear us down, our spirits are renewed with spring’s vibrant arrival. This seasonal renewal gladdens our hearts as we rejoice in the Easter gospel’s assurance of eternal life. We hold fast to the joy of the disciples on the road to Emmaus whose “hearts [were] burning within while Jesus spoke…and opened the scriptures to [them].” Today we, as Christ’s disciples, come together as a community to hear the proclamation of God’s word and share the breaking of the bread. We strive to remain ever youthful, ever God’s children, who await “the incorruptible glory of the resurrection.”
