Safe Environment —–——— Safeguard The Children ——–——

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and during this month we will be highlighting some of the efforts our parish has taken to make OLA and Ventura a safer place for children and young people. During this month, we ask your prayers for all children and for those adults who especially are active in their roles as “protectors of children.”

The establishment of the Office of Safeguard the Children in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and the formation of Safeguard the Children Parish Committees in the parishes were mandated by Cardinal Roger Mahoney in 2002. The Office of Safeguard the Children assists these permanent Parish Committees in implementing child sexual abuse prevention education, Safe Environment policies, procedures and resources. Click on for more information. All volunteers working with or around children must be fingerprinted through the Archdiocese and certified in the Safeguard the Children Program Protecting God’s Children. Information for both fingerprinting and Safeguard Classes are listed below. The Virtus training must be updated every 4 years. However, instead of the 3-hour Protecting God's Children program, people can recertify by completing the 1.5 hour Keeping the Promise Alive program. Fingerprinting does not need to be repeated.” For questions, call Dea Boehme at (805) 390-1260 or

Child Abuse Prevention Blessing Gracious and Loving God, We ask You to bless these Your holy people who have participated in the Church’s efforts to help stop child sexual abuse. We thank you for opening their hearts to Your call to be the “ears, eyes and voice of children and young people” everywhere. Continue to give them the vision and grace needed to fulfill the special commitments that each of them has made to making their homes, churches, schools, communities and world a safer place for all God’s Children. We make this prayer through Christ Our Lord. Amen .

Review the Five Body Safety Rules that ‘Keep Kids Safe

Mass Intentions

April is national Child Abuse Prevention Month, and “Keep Kids Safe” month in the Archdiocese. This month, parents and guardians should review with their children and teens the “Five Body Safety Rules.” These rules will help them to protect themselves from the harm of child sexual abuse. Rule #1: It’s My Body – God wants me to be safe and happy. I have the right to know the body safety rules. Rule #2: If I have the “UhOh” feeling like something is wrong, then I am right! I need to ask questions. Rule #3: If someone makes me feel uncomfortable, I have the right to say “NO!” and “GET AWAY!” Rule #4: I should always tell my parent or a safe adult if someone makes me feel unsafe or touches me in any way that makes me feel unsafe. I should keep telling until someone believes me. Rule #5: If I am abused, it is never my fault.

Meetings are Tuesday mornings at 9:15am & Wednesday evenings at 7:30pm.

Greetings to You, Today is a most special day in which we are reminded of God's tremendous mercy towards us. If we only open our hearts, let go of our pride, and ask God to forgive us for the times we have not kept our eyes on Him. When we ask, we shall receive. As St. John of the Cross says, "At the end of our lives we will be judged on how much we have loved." Remember that silly quote, "Love is never having to say your sorry " Well that’s just the most ridiculous saying I've ever heard. We should be saying sorry 50 times a day. We are always making mistakes. I know I am. So, please remember God's tender mercy for us this day. Have a most blessed week. Love and prayers, Bro. Mark

Doubting Thomas Limited God's Mercy "An 'old person', someone who relies on his own calculations, who lists pros and cons, limits the possibility for God to act and sets limits on His love and mercy." Fr. Tadeusz Dajczer, The Gift of Faith, page 70

Vete!”.
