Our Lady of the Assumption Mission Statement/Declaración de la Misión We, as faithful followers of Jesus Christ, create, nurture, and maintain a community of love through worship, reconciliation, healing, formation, education and service. Through Word and Eucharist, we seek the wisdom and guidance of the Holy Spirit, embracing the love of our Creator in each thought, word, and action. As humble servants of God, we remain faithful to the teachings of the Holy Roman Catholic Church, waiting in joyful hope for our Lord’s coming.

Weekly Reflection The Power of God’s Love

El Poder del Amor de Dios

Today we celebrate the Baptism of Jesus. Matthew’s gospel recounts that Jesus asks John to baptize Him “to fulfill all righteousness.” As Jesus emerges from the water, He is recognized by God the Father with these words, ”This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” So much is embodied in the phrase, “my beloved Son.” God the Father in calling Jesus beloved expresses His infinite loving relationship with Jesus. And Jesus’ willingness to become human and to be baptized defines our relationship with God the Father. Jesus models the relationship our baptism calls us to: We are God’s beloved children. We have been created to be loved by God—to be His sons and daughters. This is our ultimate purpose. The graces we received in baptism call us to realize that we have been made worthy. Our baptism signals that we have been freed from the doubts, insecurities, and fear of original sin. We are dearly loved; we are God’s beloved who are intended for eternal life.

Safe Environment Safeguard the Children

What can I do as a parent following a trauma?

The establishment of the Office of Safeguard the Children in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and the formation of Safeguard the Children Parish Committees in the parishes were mandated by Cardinal Roger Mahony in 2002. The Office of Safeguard the Children assists these permanent Parish Committees in implementing child sexual abuse prevention education, Safe Environment policies, procedures and resources. protecting/ for more information.

Establish a sense of safety and security. It is essential that children feel protected, safe and secure in the aftermath of a trauma. Ensure that all basic needs are met, including love, care, and physical closeness. Spend extra time to let children know that someone will nurture and protect them. Children will need a lot of comforting and reassurance.
