How to Win a Poker Tournament

Before you look into this article, we recommend checking out: http://99onlinepoker.poker/ A poker tournament can be divided into three stages, and each individual part has its own unique strategy and feel. Playing a tournament is far different from most cash games. The three phases are the early, middle and late table stage.

Early Stages The early stage is usually the easiest part of the competition that you will see throughout the tournament. There is one single rule when playing in the beginning of a large field, play tight! Some believe that while the blinds are low you should see as many hands as possible so that you can hit a monster and double up. Trust me, this is completely wrong, and this strategy should not be used unless you okay with your chip stack slowly fading away. The reason for this is that you're only given a certain amount of chips, so every time you see a flop your stack will continuously get lower and by the time you do hit a hand and double up, you'll probably be back to where you started or may have a modest gain. That said, many professionals will only think about playing the top ten hands in poker, and even then, it depends on their position at the table. So, if there's only one thing you remember, it's to be patient during the early stage.

Middle Stages There are many different variations as to when people consider the middle stages as starting but I personally go by the feel of the tournament. So, if I feel the need to kick my play up a gear, then I'll go ahead and do so, but you'll need to play a few tournaments to really get a feel for when the time is right. Therefore, as you can probably tell, the middle stage is where you're either going to make or break.

This is where you make most of your chips in preparation for the final table. However, that is never a reason to play out of control, simply play smart and aggressive while always taking your position into account. And for those of you that don't know what position is, it's how far away you are from the button (dealer) on the table. Even when you're in the middle stages, mediocre hands still shouldn't be played from early position; it will just be a sure way to lose your remaining chips.

The Final Table If you're lucky enough to make it this far, then you're in for a treat. The final table is usually the most aggressive part of a professional poker player's tournament. That said, once again you cannot play stupid because every person that gets knocked out will further you a nice lump sum of money within the prize pool. I personally recommend playing a lot of sit n go's (sng's) to get a good feel for what a final table will be like so that you can perfect your strategy. While I can try and tell you everything you'll need to do to become a champion, nothing will ever be better than experiencing it firsthand. So, get out there and practice all you can if you want to be an experienced contender. Good Luck!
