The pushchair part of the travel system is the part that parents will use longest, and it’s sometimes the most overlooked part of the system.

Do you want a parent or forward facing pram?

It is worth considering the importance of this to you. If the seat is removable and can be fitted to face the parent, you can change it when baby is ready to explore what the world has to offer. Most parents like to be able to maintain eye contact with their baby for the first few months at least and then face the baby outward after this. The ability to do this will affect the weight and folding of the pushchair. a travel system, some companies manufacture their own car seats to sit on their frames. It’s important to think about the seat: Travel system seats are sometimes suitable from birth and often times only approved from six months due to the angle of the seat and so must be used with carry cot or car seat for the first number of months. The pushchair part of the travel system is the part that parents will use longest and sometimes the most overlooked part of the system – there are a huge variety on the market, three wheelers/city strollers/ones that grow as your family grow enabling the use of the same product for a toddler and baby or even twins. Three wheel strollers are often suited to rough terrain and sometimes can be bulkier to fold. These generally have pumped tyres and give a smooth ride for the baby and easier push for the parent over rough terrain. Strollers are generally for older children, and there are a huge variety on the market – umbrella folding and easy to transport are ideal for short trips out, generally the wheels are small and more suited to rough terrain. Some have full lie flat but many will have semi recline so baby may not be able to sleep comfortably. An aluminium chassis is considerably lighter than other materials – however it has a bearing on the price.

TOP TIP Make sure you, your partner, and anyone else who will be using your pushchair, knows how to fold it up, or remove and attach the car seat/carrycot/ bassinet before your little one arrives.

What types of prams/pushchairs should a parent of twins/multiples opt for?

Consider the first six months – the reality is that you will not be going anywhere in the first six months apart from routine appointments. Lots of people spend great amounts of money on systems for twins that they never get the value out of. Ask yourself the following questions: If you buy a system with two carrycots are you going to use them for day time sleeping? Will it be easy to push when your babies are older? Will you have trouble getting on a bus, mounting steps or folding? When folded, will it fit in the boot or will anything else fit if you are going away for the weekend/day? Is it easy to assemble each time you leave the car or will you end up leaving it in the boot or at home? Will it fit in the front door or past the front step on the stairs? Remember you will be spending double the money – would you consider car seats that will cover a number of stages? What happens when you want to bring only one baby out? Will your pushchair accommodate this? Think about longevity.

What accessories make life easier when out and about with baby/toddler in the buggy?

- Definitely a good rain cover – ensure that it is breathable and that baby does not sweat under it. - UV sun cover/sleep shade. - Pram hook for holding extra bags. - Good changing bag - Pram weights can be attached to the front wheels of the stroller to stop it from tipping over.
