INTRO: THOUSANDS GATHERED IN VANCOUVER TODAY FOR ONE FINAL PROTEST AGAINST ENBRIDGE’S NORTHERN GATEWAY PIPELINE BEFORE THE POSSIBLE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT APPROVAL. THE PROTEST WAS PART OF A NATIONWIDE DAY OF ACTION CALLED DEFEND OUR CLIMATE. ZACK SINGER HAS THE STORY. (BG protest noise: “Who’s going to campaign agains the 21 conservative PM’s if they approve northern gateway?”...“I will!”) NO PIPLINES, NO TAR SANDS OIL, AND NO FUEL TRANSPORT BY RAIL. THOSE ARE JUST SOME OF THE MESSAGES FROM PROTESTERS OUTSIDE THE TELUS WORLD OF SCIENCE TODAY. FORESTS ETHICS ADVOCACY FEILD ORGANIZER KATIE HARRISON EXPLAINS SOME OF THE ISSUES CITIZENS HAVE WITH THE PROPOSED ENBRIDGE PIPELINE. “We’re concerned about the risk of an oil spill, it’s probably the number one. We’re also concerned about the risk to wildlife and we’re concern about the risk to the local economy.” ACCORDING TO HARRISON, THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IS EXPECTED TO APPROVE THE NORTHERN GATEWAY PROPOSAL LATER THIS WEEK. ZACK SINGER, EVOLUTION 107-9 NEWS. (BG Protest noise: “Thank you for your support, let’s take it to the feds, let’s take it to the province!”)
