We are direct importers of diamonds from Israel, South Africa, and India. We offer not only a global selection of jewelry but also a design center in our Severna Park store to design and create your own piece. As the founder of Zachary’s, I offer you more than 30 years of jewelry experience and appraisal expertise. I personally oversee every one of our diamond and jewelry purchases. Making a big comeback on the market is the Corum Heritage Bubble watch.

The oversized domed watch was first unveiled in 2000 and was one of the most unconventional – and fast beloved – watches in history. Now, 15 years later, the new 47 MM Corum Heritage Bubble features a specifically made sapphire domed crystal that stands 18.8 MM high – which was no easy feat to achieve. The third model in the Bubble collection does away with the dial entirely. A skeletonized movement takes its place, with the domed sapphire crystal providing a magnified view of the exposed wheels of the CO0082 selfwinding movement. The case is a collection of smooth rounded lines, just like the original. $8,300

One of Zachary’s memorable events of the past year was our H.Stern preview, “A Night in Brazil,” with cocktails, cuisine, and live music themed for this world-known Brazilian line of elegantly imaginative jewelry. H.Stern is found at only 37 locations in the United States, including 30 Nieman Marcus and Saks stores – and Zachary’s. Another notable Zachary’s event featured Gucci. At both, 10 percent of the proceeds went to the Johns Hopkins Division of Rheumatology, which treats autoimmune disorders that affect 23.5 million Americans – more than the number of people with cancer or heart disease.

At extraordinary events such as these, Zachary’s invites you to celebrate the culture of beautiful jewelry while supporting the good works of charities in our area.

PARIS

The city of lights and love is incomparable. The rivers Seine and Loire, the art, the cafes, the exuberant history, the fashion runways and museums — Paris is all of these plus architecture, cuisine, and attitude! The following offerings relate to Paris past and present and cover a myriad of topics, including people, events, landmarks, and much more!

A Celtic tribe, the Gaul Parisii, settled on the islands of present-day Paris in about 300 BC. The Romans, under the command of Julius Caesar, renamed their city Lutetia when they defeated the Gauls of the area.

St. Genevieve became the patron saint of the city for repelling the Huns in 451. The Latin Quarter of the city contains the Pantheon built in her honor.

The Capetian Dynasty began in 987 when Hugues Capet was crowned king of France. His father was Hugh the Great, a Parisian count and Frankish duke.

The building of the renowned cathedral Notre Dame began in 1163.

Its name signifies the Virgin Mary. Interestingly, the cathedral witnessed the crowning of Napoleon as emperor in 1804.

The Louvre was initially built as a fortress in 1204 against Vikings.

It was later occupied as a royal palace. It has been a public museum since 1793. Last year it greeted 8.3 million visitors.

Louis IX was born in 1214. He famously fought in the Crusades but died from a plague in Tunis.

The Sorbonne University was founded in 1253 by Robert de Sorbonne. It was one of the most important learning centers of the medieval world.

Clovis I established his capital at Paris. He founded the Merovingian Dynasty.

France’s first national theatre was founded in 1680 and called Comedie-Francaise.

Anges-Jacques Gabriel designed the Place de la Concorde in 1755.

A Parisian mob stormed the Bastille on July 14, 1789. The French celebrate this day as Fête Nationale. The French Revolution took place from 1789 to 1815.

The Revolution’s terror came to a conclusion when Robespierre was put to the guillotine in 1794. Although born in Arras, he was actually of Irish descent. Legend claims that he was the only person guillotined facing upward.

Parisian mimes still entertain on city streets. Marcel Marceau is considered the world’s most famous mime.

The Ile de la Cité on the River Seine is famously home to Notre Dame, the Saint Chapelle, Palais de Justice, the Place Dauphine, and the Square du Vert Galant.

The Eiffel Tower sits on the Champs de Mars. It is 1,063 feet high including its antenna. At the time of its completion in 1887, it was the tallest structure in the world.

Les Halles was once the premier and centrally located marketplace in Paris.

Perhaps the best known street in Paris is the Champs Elysees.

It contains many theatres, cafes, and world-class shops. The Arc de Triomphe sits on the western end of the Champs Elysees.

The hill of Montmartre is situated on the Right Bank of the city and was once a famous artist district containing studios by the likes of Dali and Picasso. The Moulin Rouge sits near the Montmarte.

The Hotel Ritz Paris contains the Coco Chanel Suite that was once the residence of the influential designer.

Le Marais is a popular cultural district in Paris — it is also the neighborhood where Doors’ singer Jim Morrison died in 1971.

The famous Catacombs of Paris lie beneath Montparnasse.

The Hotel de Crillon is one of the oldest hotels operating in Paris today. The luxury hotel once received Emperor Hirohito of Japan for a stay.

Faced with a shortage of foreign supplies during the difficult 1940s, Gucci began experimenting with atypical luxury materials. One of its artisans’ most subtle innovations was burnishing cane to create the handle of the new Bamboo Bag, whose curvy side was inspired by a saddle’s shape. An ingenious example of “necessity as the mother of invention,” the bamboo became the first of Gucci’s many iconic products. In 1971 the popular Bamboo range was translated into jewelry. Today, the graceful form of the bamboo plant is interpreted across rings, earrings, bracelets, and necklaces in 18kt gold, and it also comes accented with diamonds. The bamboo jewelry features an innovative spring mechanism that combines exceptional design with technical expertise.

Marco Bicego’s yellow gold jewelry is natural, understated and seductive

There is nothing like the softness of yellow gold. It is the ultimate feminine jewelry statement, classic and timeless.

It works with vintage styles, and vintage dresses, which is important today, as vintage-themed weddings are very much in style right now.

Yellow gold is more subtle than other gold colors, and it is also more natural. There is no such thing as naturally occurring rose, white, or green gold. Gold itself is only one color: yellow. Any other color is produced by mixing pure 24k yellow gold with other metals, creating alloys, or mixes of metals. Adding copper, for example, produces rose gold. Adding nickel or palladium creates white gold.

Yellow gold is mixed with traces of nickel, copper, and zinc, which make it stronger and slightly lighter in color than pure gold. It is ideal for jewelry.

Marco Bicego’s new Lunaria collection epitomizes the

femininity of soft yellow gold. The collection is inspired by the translucent, disc-shaped seed pods of the Lunaria flower. This unique, organic shape is beautifully interpreted

by Bicego with petal-like disks of gold linked by chains. The surfaces of the pods are engraved using the brand’s signature Bulino technique, a satin finish that lends itself particularly well to the motif because it creates an organic look, an essential expression of the Marco Bicego style.

Each delicate, 18k gold petal-like element is surrounded by a carefully forged frame that is given a contrasting high polish for an even closer resemblance to the Lunaria pod of nature. After decades in a slump, the island is looking to make a comeback. Hosting the 2017 America’s Cup should help put it in the spotlight, once again.

“Bermuda skipped a generation, so we need to reintroduce it to a whole new group of people,” says Allan Federer, general manager of the newly renovated and renamed Hamilton Princess & Beach Club (formerly the Fairmont Hamilton Princess), which is undergoing a dramatic transformation with extensive renovations thanks to its new Bermudian owners, the Green family. They acquired the landmark in the capital town of Hamilton in 2012 and are investing tens of millions of dollars in upgrading the faded grande dame to cater to a new wave of 21st-century travelers. Diamonds are certainly durable enough to be worn every day. Diamond is the hardest gemstone on earth. It rates 10 on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness, which means it is much harder than any other gem. “The durability of diamonds allows us to wear them on a daily basis, whether it is in a ring, pendant, or earrings,” says Mark Mann, global director of jewelry manufacturing arts for the Gemological Institute of America.

The idea of wearing diamonds every day has evolved alongside the trend toward affordable fashions that are inspired by couture designs. It has cued jewelry designers to follow suit by creating more casual diamond looks.

Fashion stylist Monica Cotto in New York City has worked with brands and magazines for 20 years and has witnessed this evolution. “I save big statement pieces for evening, but I have no problem pairing fashionforward styles that are thinner and smaller, like stacks of diamond bangles, with a great blouse,” she says.

“I first get the idea for a piece from my travels — I’m incredibly influenced by the destinations I visit and the nature and architecture I see. Then, once the design is finalized, our craftsmen use a bulino tool to engrave hundreds of tiny lines on the gold surface, creating a tactile finish that remains practically unalterable through time. Should the piece include a colored stone or diamond, they are all hand-set. I am also inspired by the women who wear Marco Bicego. When creating my collections, I always keep the Marco Bicego woman in mind, especially her style and how she isn’t afraid to experiment with jewelry in unconventional ways. Many, if not all, of our collections can be worn together; I design with the mentality that pieces are meant to be artfully layered.”
