National Security Adviser Flynn Resigns Amid Russia Controversy

permanent basis.

CLASSIFIEDS

Washington - National security adviser Michael Flynn has resigned after reports he misled Trump administration officials about his contacts with Russia’s ambassador to the U.S.

Flynn’s departure less than one month into the Trump administration marks an extraordinarily early shakeup in the president’s senior team of advisers. Flynn was a loyal Trump supporter throughout the campaign, but his ties to Russia caused concern among other senior aides. Flynn initially told Trump advisers that he did not discuss sanctions with the Russian envoy during the transition. Vice President Mike Pence, apparently relying on information from Flynn, publicly vouched for the national security adviser. Flynn later told White House officials that he may have discussed sanctions with the ambassador. A senior Russian lawmaker said on Tuesday it was clear that Michael Flynn, had been forced to resign in an effort to damage relations between Russia and the United States. Trump named retired Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg as the acting national security adviser and a senior administration official said he was one of three candidates the president was considering to replace Flynn on a Wednesday, February 15, 2017

Whoever emerges as Trump’s choice will take the helm of the National Security Council at a time when the young administration is grappling with a series of national security challenges, including North Korea’s reported ballistic missile launch. The president, who was joined at his Mar-a-Lago estate by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe over the weekend, voiced solidarity with Japan. National security adviser Michael Flynn resigned from his position only after he was asked to by President Trump, White House press secretary Sean Spicer announced Tuesday. Trump asked for Flynn’s resignation “not based on a legal issue, but based on a trust issue,” Spicer said from the White House podium. He added that the “level of trust between the president and Gen. Flynn had eroded.” Spicer also revealed that in addition to Flynn misleading the vice president about what was discussed in his phone call with a Russian official, there were “a serious number of other questionable instances” from Flynn’s historically short tenure. Spicer did not specify what those instances were. But the White House press secretary maintained that the president is taking a hard line on Russia. “The irony of the situation is that the president has been incredibly tough on Russia,” Spicer said. Similar comments were made by White House counselor Kellyanne Conway

But the constant drip, drip, drip of sensitive and confidential information from the White House has some Republican leaders worried.

CLASSIFIEDS

“In the end, it was misleading the vice president that made the situation unsustainable,” Conway said on NBC’s “Today.”

“He knew he had become a lightning rod and he made that decision,” Conway added.

Trump says ‘Illegal Leaks’ Are the ‘Real Story’ of Flynn’s Resignation President Trump said Tuesday that “illegal leaks coming out of Washington” are the “real story” in the wake of the resignation of his national security adviser. “The real story here is why are there so many illegal leaks coming out of Washington?” the president wrote on Twitter. “Will these leaks be happening as I deal on N. Korea etc.?” Trump had earlier called for a probe of leaks in the West Wing after details of phone conversations he had with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto were made public. “The president takes these leaks very seriously,” White House spokesman Sean Spicer told Fox News last week.

4

“I am going to be asking the FBI to do an assessment of this to tell us what’s going on here because we cannot continue to have these leaks as a government,” Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) told Fox News late Monday. Nunes, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said information leaking about Flynn’s phone calls to the Russian ambassador is especially troublesome. “If, in fact, the press reports are right, someone made the decision to deliberately listen to General Flynn’s phone calls and that is, I think, unprecedented, unwarranted and flatout wrong,” he said.

Governor Cuomo Blocks Bag Tax For A Year Gov. Cuomo on Tuesday signed a bill blocking the city from imposing the fee for at least a year, saying it makes more sense to come up with a program statewide. “The law was drafted so that merchants keep the five cent fee as profit, instead of the money being used to solve the problem of plastic bags’ environmental impact – essentially amounting to a $100 million per year windfall to merchants,”

At what age is it normal to start training a child? (Z.C.)

When to start training children? Training is the next stage in your toddlers life. I would say that training girls and boys start at different ages. Girls are easier to train therefore I would recommend that a girl can start as early as 2-2.5 years and a boy I would say 2.5-3 years old. Although some start boys as early as two years old, experience tells me that it's not recommended. (R.B.) from 22 months you can start already for a girl (E.U.)

“A $100 million bonus to private companies is beyond the absurd. The windfall profit to private entities is unjustifiable and unnecessary.” The city collects an average of 1,700 tons of plastic bags each week, costing $12.5 million annually in disposal costs. Statewide, New Yorkers use an estimated 23 billion plastic bags annually.

The bags pollute the state’s waterways from the Adirondacks to Long Island and get stuck in trees on the Grand Concourse in the Bronx, Cuomo said. “A statewide solution is the most appropriate way to address this issue,” he said. The governor said he would create a task force to consider whether to ban plastic and paper carryout products, tax plastic bags or supply residents with reusable bags..

Iceland Police : Don't Stare And Drive

The first incident took place when Sudurnes Police stopped a car that was struggling to remain in its lane on the right side of the road while headed toward Keflavik International Airport. Police suspected the man was driving under the influence, but he admitted he simply could not keep his eyes off the northern lights. "The reason for this driving style was not intoxication, the driver told the police he saw the northern lights and couldn't bring himself to stop looking at them, as he kept on driving. The police asked him to park the vehicle if he wanted to keep on gazing at the sky," police said, according to the Iceland Monitor. A second incident took place nearby the town of Njarovik, where an officer spotted another vehicle veering in and out of its lane. Police pulled the car full of tourists over and again instructed the driver to pull over after the group admitted they were distracted by the northern lights.

TODAY IN WORLD HISTORY

1903 - First Teddy bear goes on sale On this day in 1903, toy store owner and inventor Morris Michtom places two stuffed bears in his shop window, advertising them as Teddy bears. Michtom had earlier petitioned President Theodore Roosevelt for permission to use his nickname, Teddy. The president agreed and, before long, other toy manufacturers began turning out copies of Michtom’s stuffed bears, which soon became a national childhood institution.

Facts about the Teddy Bear The world’s oldest bear is 96 years old, and is worth £100,000. He lives in Germany and was labelled a ‘Teddy bear’ after US President Theodore Roosevelt, who was an avid bear hunter. In 1912, a black bear was commissioned as a mark of respect after the Titanic tragedy. The most valuable bear is called Teddy Girl and sold at Christies in London for £110,000 in 1994. It is owned by Japanese toy company boss Yoshihiro Sekiguchi. The collectable bears cost around £150 each, their valuable is decreased if the ear button is removed. In 1902 in Giengen an der Brenz, northwest of Augsburg in Germany, the first teddy bear was created by Richard Steiff, a bear-admirer working in his Aunt Margarete’s toy factory. The drawing of Pooh bear was based on the illustrator E. H. Shepard’s son’e Steiff bear, called Growler. A miniature 1950s bear called Theodore, which, at only 31/2in tall and reputed to be one of the tiniest teddies ever. Steiff bears were given swivel limbs to make them easy to cuddle, a protruding black snout and leather or felt pads on their paws. Many had a humped back and some had stomachs fitted with a growler box. In 1908, the Grand Duke of Russia bought a red Steiff bear for his daughter, Princess Xenia Georgievna, which she called Alfonzo in In 1989 it was sold at Christie’s for the then record figure of £12,100. The bear’s popularity can be traced to when the famous Washington Post cartoonist Clifford Berryman drew the cartoon ‘Drawing the line in Mississippi’ which was a comment on a border dispute the President was trying to resolve. The bear became known as Teddy’s Bear and Berryman featured a bear cub in all future cartoons involving the president.

CC’S INSPIRATION CORNER THE BEAUTIFUL SOUND OF SILENCE R' Aharon Leib Shteinman says a beautiful thought on this past week's Parsha. Something that will apply to each one of our daily lives. It is as follows. When Klal Yisroel was in Mitzrayim, during the makos, there were two different types of animals that displayed an act of kiddish Sheim Shamayim. The first was the tzfardeah, the frogs jumped into the ovens and gave up their lives to do the will of Hashem. For that, they were rewarded and they didn't die in the ovens. The second, were the dogs. They did not bark on the night of makos Bechoros. Because of that, they too are rewarded. When it comes to your treif meet, you give it to your dog. Zahkt R' Aharon Leib Shteinman, if someone gives up his life, is moser nefesh and is ready to jump into an oven for the Ribono Shel Olam, they will be rewarded. But if someone feels like barking and instead controls his tongue and is silent, he will be rewarded eternally. Today, we give the dog the treif meat because a millennia ago, they were silent when they felt like barking. There are times, days in our lives when we feel like barking; at friends, coworkers, bosses, employees, at home at our children, and spouses. But if we are able to bite our lips and silence our tongues, then that silence will be rewarded eternally. Hopefully in the form of Yiddishe nachas, gezunt, parnasah, and simcha in each one of our homes. Have a great day and a great rest of your week.
