Adopt-a-Park at Burcham Park (Every other Thursday, June 3 --July 29 6:30pm-7:30pm) Meet in the first parking lot (East) th th Adopt-a-Park at Centennial Park (Every other Monday, June 7 – Aug 9 9:00 am – 10:30 am) Meet at the playground shelter off of th 9 St. behind Bigg’s BBQ. th th Adopt-a-Park at “Dad” Perry Park (Every other Monday, June 14 – Aug 30 7:00pm-8:00pm) Meet at the playground parking lot For all the Adopt-a-Park projects Youth Volunteers will pick up trash and debris to help beautify the park. They will also collect any recyclables and take them to the nearest recycle bins. th

Community Garden (Every Sunday, June 13 –Aug. 29 7:00pm – 8: 00 pm) 9 and Mississippi behind Cork ‘n Barrel Youth Volunteers will help maintain the shared space of community garden by planting, weeding, and harvesting flowers and veggies. Youth Volunteers will take extra produce to Just Food pantry. Youth Volunteers will have the opportunity to do creative projects such as making stone mosaics for the pathways and labels for the plants using recycled materials. th

CCC Garden (Every Friday, June 11 – Aug 6 9:00am - 10:30am) Community Connections Center, 2600 W. 25 St. Youth Volunteers will help maintain the C-Tran garden which is used for special learners during the summer school program and academic year. rd

ECM Garden (Every Thursday, June 3 – Aug 5 9:30am-11:30am) 1204 Oread Ave, on KU campus Youth Volunteers will create a new raised bed garden using recycled materials. Youth Volunteers will work together to design a sustainable garden in the midst of reconstruction of a 50 year old building. Vegetables planted in the garden will be harvested for Veggie Lunch which the students are invited to partake in after every service project. Youth Volunteers will prepare Veggie Lunch on nd July 22 as a way to give back to the community and incorporate the food they are harvesting. Bring $2 if staying for lunch. rd

Okanis Garden at Prairie Moon School (Every Friday, June 3 -August 6 8am-10am) 1853 East 1600 Road Youth Volunteers will weed and water garden through June with possibly working on composting. Throughout July and August, planting more, harvesting, preparing for market and Community Supported Agriculture program. KU Student Rain Garden (Thursday, Aug 12, 6:30pm-8:30pm, Saturday, July 24, 8:30 am-10:30 pm) In front of KU Recreation Center off of Naismith Dr. The Youth Volunteers will help maintain the rain garden with KU students throughout the summer by mulching and learning about the environmental benefits of sustainable design in campus construction. th

Prairie Park Nature Center (Every other Wednesdays, June 9 - July 21 11:20am-1:30pm) 2730 Harper Street Youth Volunteers will recover fish line in canoes on Mary’s Lake and by walking around the shoreline. They will also cleaning up the park and trails, building new feeder trays for the squirrels and birds, and re-mulch around a small pond. Youth Volunteers will also learn about the importance of using a lead-free bobber when fishing and help distribute those to fishermen and women who are using the lake. th

Hidden Valley Day Camp Clean-Up (Wednesday, July 14 & 28 , Aug 4 9:00am-11:00am) NW corner of W.15 St. & Kasold Dr. Youth Volunteers will be working on the following tasks depending on their immediate need at the camp: trail mulching, pulling sumac and honey suckle out of natural prairie, removing cattails from wetlands, picking up litter along stream, maintaining gardens. th

Neighborhood Playgrounds Recycled Art Program (Wednesday June 16 , Every Tuesday, June 22 – July 20 10:15am-11:45am) Order of park attendance: Sunflower, Broken Arrow, Holcom, Edgewood, South Park twice Youth Volunteers will facilitate a nature project where younger kids make bird feeders out of recycled materials . th

Cans for the Community (Every Monday, June 7 – Aug 9 10:30am-10:45am, Every Thursday June 10 – Aug 5 12:00pmth 12:12pm) Merc Can House in Crimson and Blues parking lot off of 9 St. th th th rd (Every Tuesday, June 15 – Aug 10 12:00pm-12:15pm, Every Friday, June 25 10:45pm-11:5pm) Hy-Vee on 23 St. Youth Volunteers will take cans out of can house and bag them for the delivery to the recycling center. Youth Volunteers will learn about how donated aluminum can benefit non-profits in our community through this project. th

KU Campus Garden (Wednesday, July 7 – Aug 25 5:30pm-6:30pm, Sunday, July 11 - Aug 29 10:00am-11:00am) th Behind University Relations building, on the 13 block of Louisiana St. Youth Volunteers will help maintain the campus garden that grows food for Just Food with KU students throughout the summer.

Midnight Farms (Saturday, August 28 8:30am-3:30pm) Meet at the United Way building for car pooling. 2518 Ridge Court Youth Volunteers will prepare a sensory trail at Midnight Farms. Youth Volunteers will learn about the services that Midnight Farms offers its clients and the facility it has established to live in a better community. Wear close-toed shoes. Lunch will be provided.

Summer of Service After School Hours Project Descriptions (These projects are primarily for Summer of Service participants, although alternative options for other YVC members to volunteer can be arranged.) th

Environmental Presentation (Saturday, August 7 9:00am-3:00pm) Lawrence Public Library Youth Volunteers will be making an environmentally themed activity fair that will be presented to various after school programs. Youth Volunteers will brainstorm ideas for themes, partner together on topics, research information and activities, plan displays/activities, and come up with a list of materials for the presentations. th

Environmental Presentation (Saturday, August 14 9:00am-1:00pm) United Way Building, 2518 Ridge Court Youth Volunteers will continue working on their presentations for the environmentally themed activity fair that will be presented to various after school programs. Youth Volunteers will work on their displays, putting activities together, test any experiments, and practice the presentations. th

Environmental Presentation (Monday, August 16 4:00pm-5:30pm) Langston Hughes Elementary School Youth Volunteers will present their environmentally themed project to the elementary school kids apart of the Boys and Girls Club. th

ECM Garden (Every Wednesday, August 11 -25 7:00pm-8:00pm) 1204 Oread Ave, on KU campus Youth Volunteers will finish up on the sustainable garden they built over the summer and begin harvesting produce for use in Veggie th Lunch. On August 25 the youth volunteers will prepare a meal for over 200 students and community members to enjoy the next day at Veggie Lunch. th
