LEAN PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT Lean product development (LPD) is the application of lean principles to product development, aiming to develop new or improved products that are successful in the market. To maximize customer value is a core principle in LPD , and the values were defined by logical experiments rather than simple thoughts came from nowhere. Based on the customer value, we design new prototypes of the further product. And feedback of the new ideas will be recieved after the prototype tested by customers. Which means the decisions were made on short-cycle experimentation, prototyping, set-base design, and emergent practice. In this project, we walked through the design progress of LPD, including customer value identifying, competitor analysis, casual mapping, balance and point finalization, to made a better car polisher. 7

Casual Mapping We made a casual map to visualize the links between different design parameters of a car polisher. By the casual map, we can clearly understand the balance relationship between parameters and what obstacle we are facing.

Balance Point The obstacles we face are the parameters which are bounded by each other. That is the balance point of the design parameters. We have two choice to deal with the problem: to choose which side we should be or try to break the balance relationship.

Product Weight depends on the motor size, if we want a smaller and also stronger motor, it means the cost will increase.

Insert our new design to improve the uncomfortable when using.


Solution Try reducing its vibration, maybe add some gaskets or springs. Change its on-off button from trigger to switch. Lengthen the wire, change the wire output to the bottom of the handle. Make the polishing disk replaceable, allow it to be changed into different sizes, attach using Velcro just like angle grinder. Find out the relationship between the handle and comfortability, using two-handle design.

Prototype & Modeling Prototype Me and my partner use PU to find out the best size and shape of our polisher outlook, inside the machine, we took the motor from our original product, and try our new vibration resistant system on it, and it works greatly.

Slice Figure of our Design The pink area in the figure are screws, and yello area are springs, this system successfully absorbs the vibration from motor.

Modeling We build 3D models in solidworks, and print them out with 3D printers, after that we polish and paint them with sprays. Then we combined all the parts, and get our fine working model.

Problem Define In this project, students were asked to design for future.

Opinion I found that more and more people are willing to join marathon or any form of sports nowadays, so my target group were them.

Observation KT tape not only appears commonly on professional athletics, but also on ordinary people. It provides protection to injured part, or support to where ever you paste on. According to its physical-therapy characteristic, every body could use it at will. But the problem is, people usually don`t know about myology, so there are only a few people using it properly.

Problem People will have better sport experience if they use KT tapes, but they don`t know how to use it properly. Solution Design a machine which offers KT tapes and also taping lessions, so that people can take care of themselves on their own.

Design Outlook My idea was taken from pills, to give user a sense of medical health care. Color White gives user a sense of professional medical instrument, with another brightness color on it makes it more vivid to user.

Birth Rate Visualization This project is a practice to visualization the chart of birth rate related to our home town. And the gaol is to let reader understand birth rate variation in past five years without unnecessary words.

I was inspired by the White Stork, which brings baby to family in western culture. They all started from the vertical axis of the chart, and the more the birth rate is, the more they get close to the target. Both chart was in the same scale, so reader can easily see the difference between them.

Working Holiday I went to Matsu for working holiday on my second summer vacation, and this was me and my employer's dog enjoying sunbath after a busy day. This was a fantastic experience for me, I enjoyed the fresh air and lifestyle over there. We work hard as decorator at daytime and discover the beauty of Matsu in our spare time. Meeting cool backpackers was also really fun for me, I enjoyed sharing the story of our own everynight.
