Adam(16)cameintogetaCVdone.Itbecameapparentthathisneedswere greaterthanthatofaCV.Hewasinresidentialcare.Hewasnolongerattending schoolandweestablishedthatacontributingfactorwasliteracyissues.Hewas alsoveryconcernedthathisAftercareSupportswouldbestoppedwhenhereached 18,ifhewasnotinfull-timeeducation.
Hetoldusthathereallywantedtobeanaccountantbutcouldn’tseehowthiswould bepossibleinhissituation.Weresearchedandoutlinedwhatoptionswereavailable tohimtoachievethisgoal.Wehelpedhimfindatutortohelpimprovehisliteracy. WehelpedhimspeaktohisKeyWorkerabouthisworrieswhenheleftcare.We explainedabouteducationalprogressionroutesandhowthiswouldallowhimto achievehiscareergoal,stepbystep.

Dean,20yrs,hadbeensearchedbytheGardaíwhenataConcertandfounddrugs onhim.Hiscourtdatewascomingupandhewasfeelingsonervousandwasn’t surewhatwasgoingtohappenashehadneverbeenincourtbefore.Wegavehim timetotalkthrougheverythingthatwasgoingonandthenwestartedtofigureout whatheneededtodotoimprovehissituation.Together,wecameupwithquestions thatheneededtoaskthesolicitoronhowbesttoapproachthecourt.Therewasno judgement.Asanextrasupport,weaskedoneoftheJusticeworkerstochatto DeanaboutwhatmighthappenontheCourtday.WewroteaCharacterreference incasetheSolicitorfeltthatthiswouldbeofbenefit.
Wethenaskedabouthisdrug-takingandthatthismightbeanexcellentopportunity todosomethingaboutit,itwouldreflectwellincourtbutitwouldalsohelphimin thelongrun.WecontactedthelocalDrugTreatmentServicetolinkinwithadrug workerandgotDeanregisteredonaprogrammebeforethecourtdate.
