After a brief hiatus (due to major technical difficulties associated with the recent name change), Your Shirlington is back up and running. I would like to thank all of you for your patience and support during this time. I truly appreciate all of the e-mails that I received expressing your interest in the magazine and the hope that it would continue. It confirmed for me that we do have something special here. During this down time, I recently participated in the Open House event hosted by Signature Theatre and it was a great success for all involved. Not only was it delightful to help bring attention to our magazine and website to even more residents of the area, it was especially thrilling to meet some of our readers who came up to introduce themselves and show their thanks and appreciation for what we are doing. It has definitely been a busy past few months in the Shirlington area with a number of changes to existing businesses as well as the addition of some others. You can read all about them on the Shirlington News page. The Shirlington events section only seems to grow every month. We don’t have enough room to list all of the event details here, just the event name, date, time, and location, but if you see an event that strikes your interest, just go to http:// and click on the events page to find all of the information that you’re looking for. Many events, like at Curios Grape, are added on a weekly basis so the Events calendar on the website will be more up to date than what’s listed here. Speaking of events, if you’re an animal lover, be sure to mark August 28 th on your calendar for The Village at Shirlington’s annual event Wags ‘n’ Whiskers. It’s sure to be a blast! – Adrian U.

Changes around Shirlington: The End Mill Shop, the oldest of all of the establishments here in Shirlington recently changed locations from its storefront on Campbell Ave next to Illusions to the new Randolph Square building next to Studio Salon & Spa. Busboys and Poets have completed their expansion into the adjacent space and have introduced additional seating as well as a performing area. If you’ve never been to one of their events, be sure to look at the Shirlington Events pages to find one that interests you. Classika Theater recently completed their official transition to Synetic Family Theater. Their continued success has distinguished themselves as one of the top theater companies in the DC area. Together with Signature Theater, they help establish Shirlington as a true destination spot for great theater. Great Starts: Our most recent additions to Shirlington, Verbena Paper & Gifts, Periwinkle, Studio Salon & Spa, and Dogma, all seem to be settling in nicely into their new homes. All of the owners of these businesses are very involved in the day-to-day activities and are truly looking to establish themselves as part of the community. If you haven’t already, stop by and check them out!

New Additions to Shirlington: Maggies Moo’s recently closed, however, Federal Realty has already found their replacement: Yogiberry. Yogiberry is scheduled to open later this month. Perhaps the biggest addition yet to come in the final phase of Shirlington’s planned expansion is Samuel Beckett’s Irish Gastro Pub in the new Randolph building on Campbell next to Verbena. They’re currently planning on opening in October, no word yet whether they will be there in time for Oktoberfest.

Delivery: PING is launching an online ordering system on August 8 to make it even easier for you to get the food you want delivered right to your door. Their website is: The launch date coincides with China’s Fathers’ Day. In Chinese, the word for father sounds exactly like the words for eighteight. First time orders will receive a special discount. If you’re not in the mood for Chinese food, or you’re simply craving a milkshake on those hot summer days, Johnny Rockets also offers delivery right to your door with certain restrictions.

Other News: Due to budget restrictions, Shirlington Library is now closed on Thursdays. Bear Rock Café is now offering their take on Soul Food. They’re interested in hearing feedback on the new menu to try to make the change permanent. -6- To advertise, please call Adrian at 571-357-2477
