Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium’s Giving Circle kicked off Friday with Tea for the Sea at the Longboat Key Club’s Harbourside Dining Room. While enjoying high tea, attendees learned about the research leading female scientists are conducting at Mote and the women who founded it, Eugenie Clark and Anne Vanderbilt. All proceeds from the event benefit Mote’s research, education and outreach.

RETURN TO THE RED SEA

Before Eugenie Clark founded Mote Marine Laboratory, she studied fishes in the Red Sea. Clark will celebrate her 92nd birthday with a trip to the Red Sea from April 29 through May 6; the trip is open to the public. Participants will dive reefs in Israel and Jordan with more than 2,500 species of marine life and explore landscapes and cultures at some of the world’s most historic places. Cost is $5,295 per person based on double occupancy and an expected group of 20 participants. Single occupancy requires a $1,200 supplement.
