Sea you later, Canes After 58 days in the turtle hospital, Canes the loggerhead was released into the Gulf of Mexico. She was found floating in the water near Rod and Reel Pier on Anna Maria Island, and Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium scientists determined the young turtle was showing symptoms of red tide. Two months of rehab later, Canes eagerly scrambled back to the chilly waters of the Gulf as beachgoers and Longboat Key residents watched from mid-island.

COVID-19 shot not scary at all He might not have needed maximum overdrive to get through Tampa-area roadwork, but master of the macabre and former Longboat Key resident Stephen King tweeted last week that he drove all the way to Pasco County for it – a COVID-19 shot, that is. King, who rented a home seasonally on Longboat for many years, said on social media there was no misery involved at the drive-thru site and no nightmares and dreamscapes afterward. The writer of 61 published books now lives in Casey Key. “Get it done, folks. Let’s kill this thing,” he said.
