A taste of Ireland at the polo club After multiple trips to Ireland and England, including one a year ago, Tidewater Preserve’s Edie Chapman missed the culture. “Anything European, I like,” she said. “England is very big on polo matches, but I’ve never been to one here. So, I’m very excited.” Chapman attended the Sarasota Polo Club March 13, dressed for the event’s theme of St. Patrick’s Day. She wore a kilt, green stockings and a green top hat. Her scarf came from a special occasion: a 2012 Irelandhosted college football game in which the Notre Dame Fighting Irish beat Navy 50-10 at Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Chapman, who comes from Maryland, said she still loves living in Florida. “The weather is perfect,” she said. “I’m outside boating every day of the year.”

School produces three times the kindness

New goals for Benderson Park

The Sea of Strengths Academy decided to spread kindness in February and March by collecting donations for three nonprofits. Students at the elementary level decided to donate to the Humane Society of Sarasota County because of their love for animals. Students in fifth through seventh grades were discussing thankfulness in their social skills class, which brought them to the idea of donating to the Food Bank of Manatee. Eighth grade and higher students wanted to honor women for Women’s History Month, which is March, so they collected items for the Safe Place and Rape Crisis Center. Second grader Pasty Lake Monhollon (above, with fourth grader Alaina Flickinger) was excited to help the Humane Society of Sarasota County. “I love animals,” Monhollon said. “
