THERAPY OF THE MONTH
What’s it all about? Reiki is a form of ‘hands on’ healing which originated in Japan. The word Reiki comes from the Japanese word Rei which means ‘Universal Life’ and Ki which means ‘Energy’. This system of natural healing was developed by Dr Mikao Usui after many years of study, research and meditation. It is still taught today by Reiki Masters who have trained in the tradition passed down from Master to student. Reiki is not affiliated with any particular religion or religious practice.
Tell me more! Reiki is the ‘life energy’
that flows through all living things. It is believed that a person’s ‘ki’ or energy should be strong and flowing freely. When this is the case an individual’s mind and body is in a positive, balanced state of health. When the energy becomes weak or blocked it may lead to symptoms of physical or emotional imbalance. It is believed that a Reiki session can help to soothe stress and tension whilst supporting the body’s ability to heal itself.
BE AT ONE WITH NATURE Hotel Quelle is an award-winning ‘Nature Spa’ located in the Dolomites, South Tyrol, Italy. With a dedicated spa for adults only and a separate family spa, guests will have ample room to relax and unwind. There are 10 sauna and steam rooms, including a Snow Sauna – a unique ice lounge designed to relieve sore muscles and tension – plus a warming salt-water grotto, a fitness centre and gym. What does a treatment involve?
The recipient lies on a couch or sits on a chair. The practitioner then gently places their hands in a sequence of positions which cover the whole body. The person as a whole is treated, rather than focusing on specific symptoms. A full treatment usually takes between one and one and a half hours. No special equipment is needed, so Reiki can be given anywhere at any time.
