What’s On Locally Saturday 2nd – Saturday 9th June Steptoe & Son Albert Steptoe, a "dirty old man", is an elderly rag-and-bone man, set in his grimy and grasping ways. By contrast, his son, Harold is filled with social aspirations, not to say pretensions. Two lives knitted together as tight as a thrice darned sock. Bound together by birth, business and bad luck, Albert and Harold Steptoe wake up every morning to the same old, same old, sickening sight of each other. Do they even notice the world turning as they cling on? Adapted from the legendary scripts of Galton and Simpson, Steptoe and Son charts the surprising dance of father and son. Tickets: £10 / £9. Castle. We expect 4,000 runners ranging from the serious club runners to the not so serious recreational runners, many of whom will have obtained sponsorship to raise funds for their chosen charitable cause, something which the organisers The Rotary Club of Kenilworth encourages. There could also be a few pushchairs as well as we like to encourage anyone to join in this unique run! In respect of the run, the organisers decided to allocate the places via a ballot to give everyone who wanted to run an equal chance so the registration for the ballot was spread over 2 weeks. All those successful in the ballot have registered as have some who initially were on the waitlist so those who still want to take part should put themselves on the waitlist now. Based on H. G. Wells’ novel “Kipps – The Story of a Simple Soul”, this endearing musical is a firm favourite on stage and silver screen. The story revolves around cheeky chap, Arthur Kipps, whose life changes when he inherits money. Kipps tries to become part of the upper set, loses all his old friends and seemingly forgets his childhood sweetheart Anne, who carries the other half of his sixpence until Kipps realises he doesn’t belong in this new world and that money can’t buy happiness! Featuring well-loved songs like “If the rain’s got to fall”, “Flash bang wallop, what a picture!” and the title song, this show will be a colourful, toe-tapping event for all the family! At The Albany Theatre, Coventry. Get your tickets from the Box Office on 024 7699 8964 or visit www.albanytheatre.co.uk.
