GOALS

Young Life at the University of Michigan is committed to inviting students to follow Jesus, care for them regardless of their response, and change lives in the process!

My first priority will be to walk alongside female college students to share Christ and to build them up in their faith.

By having two full-time staff people, Tucker and I will be able to offer extra spring break and summer discipleship trips for students to grow in their faith.

I will be committed to better train and encourage our volunteer leaders. Having already established relationships with them, I am determined to provide opportunities for their spiritual health and growth so they will feel equipped to disciple others.

Tucker and I want Young Life College to look more like the Kingdom of God. We will work with our leadership team to engage with students of multiethnic backgrounds and races so our community will be more open and inclusive.

Annual Total

Young Life is a charter member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) and has maintained that membership through a yearly review of its compliance with the ECFA’s standards.

Young Life was incorporated in 1941 by Jim Rayburn, a seminary student and part-time youth minister in Gainesville, Texas, who wanted to reach out to kids disinterested in church. Rayburn went where kids were and found creative ways to share the love of God with them. His methods continue to transform lives today.

WHAT IS YOUNG LIFE COLLEGE? REACH

Young Life staff and leaders are experts in seeking out those who have wandered far away. Through relationships built on unconditional love, Young Life helps students find their way back. Young Life is passionate about being involved in the lives of all college students — from those who are trying to grow in their young faith to those who’ve never considered God before.

BUILD

Young Life College is about introducing students to Jesus and helping them grow in their faith. As students consider the claims of Christ, they are encouraged and loved by the Young Life community around them. Our hope is that through small and large group Bible studies, service opportunities, and connectedness with local churches, they will learn to be lifelong followers of Jesus.

“‘Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninetynine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, “Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.” I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent’” — Luke 15:4-7

LAUNCH

We want to see college students grow into Kingdom leaders who give their lives away wherever God is calling them to serve. Naturally, many of these students will become Young Life leaders. Our unrivaled training program and fellowship community equips these young adults to serve on leadership teams throughout the Young Life mission field, reaching middle and high school students, kids with special needs, teen moms, and even their peers in college.

SPRING BREAK

From serving in Baja, Mexico, to going on a cruise to the Bahamas, Young Life College wants spring break to be drained of distractions and filled with Jesus. During these trips, relationships are deepend and eyes are opened as students hear the greatest love story ever told.

REBECCA’S STORY

“So … why did you come to Michigan?” This was a question I got asked a lot during my freshman year, and to be honest, I did not have an answer. As a freshman girl, you stand before endless choices as you decide how you want to spend your time and who you want to be. Initially, I did not choose God, but He knocked on my heart and sent a senior Young Life College leader to come knocking too. I realized the choices I was making would never fill the hole in my heart. As I got more involved with Young Life College, I understood my deep need to choose a relationship with Jesus every single day. Fall Weekends at Timber Wolf Lake, leadership retreats in Fenton, pizza runs to New York Pizza Depot, and late-night conversations in the car have all pointed me to the One who is worthy of my time. After being a leader on the Young Life College team for 2.5 years, I feel called to be on Young Life staff so I can walk alongside the college students who might be asking themselves, “Why did I come to Michigan?” My hope is that Young Life College will give these students a clear answer, and they will see that they were placed in Michigan and on this earth so they can receive and give the love of Jesus Christ.

AREA OVERVIEW

Young Life College has been investing in students at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. College is a time of true independence. Each student is constantly choosing right or left as they walk down a path without their parents or adults on the sidelines. Students are under immense pressure to achieve academically, socially, and in so many other categories that define “success.” As they carry these heavy expectations every day, students are constantly being told they are not good enough, smart enough, funny enough, not … enough. Students need Jesus Christ in their lives because He is the ultimate voice that will counter these lies on a college campus. College is supposed to be fun, and Young Life College seeks to provide a community that has fun but also points to a greater purpose and joy. Our area has a leadership team made up of college students who have committed their lives to following Jesus, and they want to be arrows to Him on campus. The team’s goal is to create an environment that is open and inviting to all students, from those who are seeking Jesus to the ones who might cringe hearing His name. I pray that Young Life College will change and grow so Michigan students can experience life to the full!
