VISION

We believe every student in Riverside should have the opportunity to experience Jesus from leaders who have built meaningful relationships with them. We are honored to be a part of this work of God by partnering with any church, organization, individual or business that sees the importance of each student hearing the gospel and knowing that they are loved. OUR PLAN: • Give clear gospel messages weekly that point students to a relationship with God. • Recruit and train new student leaders and volunteers at every campus. • Equip leaders and students through effective evangelism and discipleship practices. • Build partnerships with local churches, individuals and businesses. • Grow our Campaigners (small leadership groups) within the city. • Foster a sense of community and fellowship within our leadership and student groups. • Raise support to allow for effective ministry opportunities.

Young Life was incorporated in 1941 by Jim Rayburn, a seminary student and part-time youth minister in Gainesville, Texas, who wanted to reach out to kids disinterested in church. Rayburn went where kids were and found creative ways to share the love of God with them. His methods continue to transform lives today.

“But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?” — Romans 10:14 NLT

AREA OVERVIEW

CALEB’S STORY

I find Jesus compelling because He is able to renew hearts and minds. I grew up in church all my life but left the church when I was 18 to pursue my own sinful desires. After almost 10years of doing all the things the world taught me, I was lost. I called out to the Lord Jesus Christ to direct my life, and He slowly started renewing my heart and renewing my mind — I found my heart arrested by what Jesus had done for me. Since then, I have been sharing this same hope that I found in Jesus with young people. I worked for the City of Riverside for seven years in a program that mentored inner-city youth. Throughout this time, God developed in me a desire to come alongside our future generations and point them to Christ. I believe, now more than ever, that our youth and young adults need to hear about the good news of Jesus Christ. He is the only one worth living for, and He gives our lives purpose, hope and joy. God has used my past experiences to help me relate to young people that are struggling through life. I will continue to help them see how God can direct their lives. On a weekly basis, we will be in the local schools, sharing this message with each student that we have a chance to talk to. These students are at a difficult age, they need caring adults who can come alongside them and help them get closer to God through a relationship with Jesus. I have the privilege of serving alongside my wife Lamya, who was previously on staff with Young Life Riverside. We are a blended family and have seven children: Zoe (22), Sasha (21), Asher (11), Tirzah (10), Ezra (8) and twin baby girls, Snow and Sparrow. We believe a call to ministry is a call for the whole family — we enjoy serving with our children to reach people for the Kingdom of God. Lamya and I hold degrees in teaching and communications and both pursued a Masters in Educational Leadership in seminary. I am honored to be a part of Young Life Riverside’s long standing legacy. I look forward to partnering with you. We know the Lord is going to do great things through the ministry of Young Life Riverside!

Young Life Riverside has a long standing history that dates all the way back to the ’60s. Within local city limits, we have seven public high schools: Poly, North, Ramona, Arlington, La Sierra, Norte Vista and King. Each of these high schools have a population of over 2,000 students — that is 2,000 souls at each campus that could hear the good news and the hope found in Jesus. There are also four major colleges in the area: University of California Riverside, California Baptist University, Riverside City College and La Sierra University. We currently have a presence at Poly High School and Cal Baptist University, so the harvest is plentiful here and we see the increasing need for Young Life in our community. Currently, we have two full-time staff, one part-time staff and five student leaders. We cannot wait to see how God adds to this number. Having equipped leaders who have earned the right to share the gospel at each and every campus in Riverside, I am excited for Young Life’s future in this community.
