I WEE STAR OF THE SEASON April Thom In August my daughter, April, started P2 which she found difficult as she was extremely shy. With some encouragement and her own persistence she made a conscious effort to join in everything at school no matter how scared or embarrassed she felt. She also joined Mini Kickers and Rainbows! I’m so proud of her and the huge progress she’s made. For some children it’s the littlest things that scare them and she has proved how brave she can be. Kayleigh Chisholm (via e-mail)
UPERDAD’S TOP TIP Let your kids grow their own healthy salads by popping some seeds in an empty yoghurt pot (spinach is an easy one!) Your kids will be amazed watching their salad grow and even more chuffed that they get to eat it afterwards! Plant your pots a week apart and you’ll be munching away all summer! Anthony, 35, South West Glasgow.
MARIE HAMILTON FROm ST ANNE’S PRIMARY TELLS US ABOUT HER CHOIR HOW DID YOUR CHOIR START? We’ve always been a very musical school so we decided to start a formal school choir that would work towards productions and competitions. We’ve gone from strength to strength.
My son Matthew and his friends love using their Kidz Cards to go swimming. I love it because I know he’s having a great time, it’s free and he’s in a safe environment!
Winning the prestigious Ian Barry Certificate for Hymn Singing at The Glasgow Music Festival, 2 years running! We are also very proud of our song ‘Fix This’ which we wrote and recorded! We wanted to let people know that we won’t put up with ‘sectarian’ behaviour and we are the generation who will make things right! It’s had 1500 hits on YouTube and has been played at a Rangers v Celtic Game.
We have been invited to the ‘The Vaccines’ concert at the O2 in London and are working with them backstage! We’ll also visit The Music Experience, The House of Lords and Abbey Road Studios while we’re there.
FUNNY THINGS THE KIDZ SAY
Natalie Shaw (via e-mail)
WHAT ARE YOUR PROUDEST ACHIEVEMENTS?
TELL US SOMETHING OUR READERS MIGHT LIKE TO KNOW?
Jane, 39, East Glasgow.
I was waiting at the bus stop with my daughter, Rebecca, when an old lady asked us the number of the next bus. Rebecca said “It’s a number 27.” The old lady said she didn’t think that number came round that way but Rebecca said “It’s definitely 27 ‘cause my dad said if I ate all my carrots at dinner I’d be able to see really far”. Before it even turned the corner, the old lady said “I think I might have to invest in a tin of those carrots”. It was so funny!
WHAT’S THE GROUP’S FAVOURITE SONG TO PERFORM? WHERE HAVE YOU PERFORMED? We perform every year at The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall during the Glasgow Music festival, Kelvingrove Museum and Glasgow City Chambers. We have also been asked to perform at Care Homes, The People’s Palace, Glasgow City Council’s Staff Awards, The Mitchell Library and Holocaust Memorial Events. This year we even entertained UEFA officials from all over Europe.
‘Fix This’ which was written by us and our friend Jonathan Carr who is a singer/ song writer.
WHAT TIPS CAN YOU GIVE PEOPLE WHO WANT TO JOIN A CHOIR? It’s a wonderful experience. It brings people together and is a great way to have fun. You don’t have to be a brilliant singer, listening well and lots of practice pays off. It’s always a team effort and we all support and encourage each other. 5

It’s also been wonderful to have so many questions from you and a few giggles along the way. I know how creative you all are from the wall displays and the work in your classrooms.”
