You can tell that Gypsy Rose Salon puts their clients at the heart of what they do as the salon has twice won the prestigious Award “Best Salon” in Sheffield as well as the owner Niamh Kavanagh herself winning the “Sheffield’s Best Stylist” twice. From its conception, the drive behind Gypsy Rose Salon has always been to be a client lead salon. This isn’t the salon that tells you how you “should” look, rather we want to know about you, how do you the client want to present yourself to those around you? What can your hair say about you? Having moved to larger premises for the third time the salon now finds itself in what was once the Yoga Studio at the infamous Hagglers Corner. Tucked upstairs from the hustle and bustle of the courtyard with its high wood beam ceilings, plants and eclectic art the space is a visual feast for you to relax while you wait. Each stylist has a dedicated area for their clients, with enough room to feel that one to one attention whilst also having the opportunity to interact with the salon banter. The focus for our salon is to find the style that suits your desires, we love natural hair texture from wavy to coily and have the products to ensure that your locks stay moisturised and hydrated with no sulphates or silicones. All of our products are vegan and colour safe for all our lovely vivid hair clients as well, for that natural “undone” look. Recently we joined the Green Salon Collective to ensure that we are making the least environmental

impact that we can as the waste levels have increased since Covid has dictated even higher standards of hygiene. We feel it’s important to take responsibility for our impact on the environment so all of our hair, metal, paper, and plastics are recycled. In recent years Gypsy Rose Salon has gained attention for its dedication to the natural haired client, breaking away from the standardised straight hair salon, offering detailed appointments for those wishing to embrace their natural hair enabling you the client to achieve your hairs best life! Take a look at our Instagram page Gypsy Rose Hair to see some of what we achieve on a daily basis.

Trampoline Starlets …. Looking forward!

These fantastic youngest’s are just part of super talented Sheffield Performance Trampoline Gymnastics Club who train at the Places Leisure, Graves Health & Sports Centre. They are all happy and excited to be back to a regular training schedule and as ever are looking forward to the next competitive season whenever that may be, but they truly continuing to stay optimistic and train hard for next opportunity along with their amazing coaching team. All these talented youngest’s qualified to compete and represent the mighty county of Yorkshire at the British Gymnastics Trampoline and Tumbling Regional Team Finals at the Birmingham Arena – 6/7 June 2020 after another fantastic performance at the National Development Pathway Yorkshire Compulsory Finals in February 2020 – which also sadly marked the very last time they competed due to the COVID19 pandemic in 2020 . “We all felt very confident that once again they were on to a

successful outcome as back in 2019 several of the gymnasts performed excellent routines at the year’s Team Final then went on to the National Individual Finals in Coventry 2019 , finishing first or second in their respective age and grade, so they become not just County Champions 2019 but National Champions 2019 as well!” Said Coach Joanne Janes. Coach – Joanne Janes and her team have all worked tremendously hard since March 2020 during lockdown and with limitations to normality , on staying connected to their squad , via weekly fun zoom sessions, training plan’s routines and taking part in charity challenge’s such as the run 5K , the squad’s fitness was not the only priority to the coaching team but keeping spirits high and bonusing moral. Sheffield Performance Trampoline Gymnastics Club is

also the home to Bryony Page. She became the first British trampolinist to win an Olympic medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeirio, where she won the silver medal. Bryony’s attitude, commitment and dedicated to the sport and club, also provides the youngest’s with not only daily motivation and inspiration but

with the vision to aim high. We think you’ll all agree that we should be very proud of both Joanne Janes and her coaching team , and of course the super talented youngest’s at Sheffield Performance Trampoline Gymnastics Club and wish them well for 2021 and truly hope once again that they will be able to not only represent the mighty

county of Yorkshire , but become National Champions as well . We will be keeping you informed over the coming months of the Club’s progress but don’t forget the Club also offer’s training sessions, and lesson for everyone and at all ability’s – you’ve just got to have the want!

The Greatest Showman wass one of the most talked about films of o 2018 and an absolute favourite of mine n . The song came out jusst at the time when I took a leap of faith in myself and launched Jennie Rowland Financial Planning .I had just turned 45, got divorced and my 2 chi h ldren had just become independent, although that I would debate! I had bee en a Financial Advisor for 20 years at that point , 17 of those in a major bank and the last 3 years in a Wealth Managem g ent Company , I loved my job b but something was missing, I felt I always give my clients the products and services they needed d and this

with me. St Place Wealth Management e then invited me to join as a Par a tner, running my own business within the Partnership it made me stop and ask a few questions. Can I really do it? Will my clients follow me? Will I be able to build the business I want; give the service and advice I have always wanted to? I thought ABSOLUTELY I CAN DO IT! I both nervous and scared, being employed for 30 years wi w th a salary had its benefits, but this was about me, my clients, my journey an nd what I wanted to do. So, I took the t plunge and have not looked back. Th he photo is me at my launch event which I held in Sheffield. I invited existing n clients, new clients, and my family. Soo o n enough other existing clients followed me as they wanted to be part o of my new financial family and that is so important to me and my business. My clients are precious to me, it is everything I have worked for. Family, health, and finances are most priorities and if Covid has taught us anything it is to put these first and plan and protect. Moving Homes – To Sell or not to sell? When Rishi Sunak announced temporary changes to stamp duty land tax, the appeal to moving homes or buying “extra homes” has no doubt increased for many. With that in mind, I thought it would be good to explore the conundrum of to sell or not to sell, from a mortgage perspective. If you have been thinking of late that you might like to sell your house and up or downsize, have you considered the possibility of keeping it? Renting it out? And buying another home for you to live in? If you are in this golden position of having repaid quite a bit of your mortgage, therefore are sitting on quite a bit of equity in your home – say 30% plus but ideally 50%, it is possible that you could rent your house out and buy a new one, therefore not selling your current home and turning your current home into an investment; making you money each month in rental income whilst your home is still yours to increase in value.

enough as the kids were getting older for Sue but they knew the house inside out so felt that it was too good to just let go. The maximum John and Sue can take out of their current home is 80% - however most commonly this is 75%. Therefore, if the rental income calculation stacks up, then John and Sue should be able to use their equity out of their current home and put this forward onto their dream house.

Rental Calculations: A buy to lets mortgage affordability is commonly calculated by lenders using a formula called ICR. ICR stands for Interest Cover Ratio. The Interest cover ratio can be different for each lender and will also differ depending on mortgage product and your tax payer status. For example, a couple earning under £50,000 per annum each, looking to take a 5 year fixed rate product will be able to borrow more than the same couple looking to take a 2 year fixed rate product. The Key to this is: We will use the following figures for this How much equity do you scenario to show you how it works. have in your house? Doing this, it can mean that your new residential mortgage payments are not much different to what you were paying before and now you have a bigger house and an investment to show for it! It all depends on the length you take the mortgage out over, the product available to you and the size of the house you want to buy. As well as this, it is important to ensure that you are adequately protected and we can look at life insurance and rental income policies to help protect you against uncertainties. Exciting though! Helping small, local and independent businesses thrive Here at You Said Yes we are passionate about helping small, local and independent business thrive during these uncertain and unprecedented times. Wherever we can help we will. Everyday life has become somewhat harder as people strive to keep themselves and their families safe whilst appearing to have some kind of normality in their lives. The word “COVID” sends chills down everyone’s spine these days and with mixed messages and uncertainty surrounding every single thing we do, we are left not knowing what to do or how or even why? With the recent Tier 3 restrictions for South Yorkshire coming into force, small businesses will find it increasingly difficult to trade. We are happy to allow a platform for them to trade however we do remind people that they can still shop safely with us outdoors, but in groups of less than 6 and with nobody but their own bubble. Wearing a facemask is not compulsory outdoors but when you are around people we think its safer and respectful to others. All of our traders agree wholeheartedly with our measures. Together with Sheffield City Council we have been supporting a project to regenerate The Moor outdoor market area of Sheffield town centre with a series of Moor Makers Markets every Sunday for the last 4 weeks. They have done surprisingly well, despite the current climate and traders, makers, artisans and bakers are turning up week in week out to sell their goods to you, the locals of Sheffield, with some people travelling further to shop with us on The Moor. Indoor retail and close contact services still remain open at this time and those are able to do so with face masks being worn. We operate a fully functioning outdoor craft market with traders socially distanced for your own and their safety. Hand sanitizer is available and masks worn wherever possible. People must feel comfortable in this new environment as we struggle to find the new normal. Our Sunday Moor Makers Markets can be found on The Moor near Atkinsons every Sunday up to Christmas (except 22

November when there will be a Vegan Market) from 10am-4pm with city centre street parking just £2. Its an ideal opportunity to support local business and bring the family unit for some fresh air. We have plenty of crafters and foodies so stop for lunch and pick up some gift ideas for Christmas. Our eventing calendar is looking much better next year as we align ourselves with some

fantastic venues. We intend to offer you some of the best local craft and artisan markets the area has for 2021. One of them is Whirlow Hall Farm Trust, which was established by Michael Hill and Alan Aikin in 1979. Both understood the importance of outdoor learning and decided to create something in the countryside where innerecity children from challenging backgrounds could learn and grow. The site is a

wonderful mix of farm life, animals, farm shop and café and on 6 December this year will host our Christmas Market in the Lambing barn. We are also excited to announce our diary of events for South Yorkshire for the Barnsley area providing a selection of markets across 3 sites ; Cannon Hall Farm, Worsborough Mill and the fabulous Elsecar Heritage Centre. This will be a mixture of foodie markets and outdoor/indoor offerings with the emphasis remaining on craft, artisan, making, baking etc etc. Supporting our locals is paramount in all that we do. We are working hard in the background to provide a platform for our local traders and artisans to continue to work and hope that you can join us at some of our future events to help support them also. All of the sites we work with have something else to offer besides the market and it’s a great way to get outdoors and enjoy some fresh air with your family bubble and of course the dog! Of course, health and safety is paramount and should you be suffering from any symptoms that worry you then our advice is to stay at home.

Celebrate Festival of Light in your own home for 2020

IT’S one of the best loved events in the Sheffield calendar, a chance for families to join together and remember loved ones at a special time of year. But the 2020 Festival of Light for many people the real start of the festive season - will have a different feel as St Luke’s Hospice continues its vital work and follows current COVID-19 safety measures. As always, the St Luke’s garden will be illuminated by thousands of lights - all shining in memory of loved ones - when the 23rd Festival of Light, sponsored by Henry Boot, begins on Sunday, December 6. But this year, for the first time, the public will not be able to attend the launch as the hospice follows government guidance on large gatherings. Instead, the switch on

ceremony - performed by BBC Radio Sheffield host and keen St Luke’s supporter Paulette Edwards - will be for patients only, though it will be streamed live to supporters via the popular St Luke’s Facebook page. And the many hundreds of people who would normally attend are being asked to show their support by hosting their own Festival of Light ceremony in their own homes. “This year, we are facing Festival of Light in exceptional circumstances with the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic,” said St Luke’s Head of Fundraising Joasia Lesniak. “Although we’re not able to gather together this year, we can all still come together in the Festival of Light spirit.

Thornberry Animal Sanctuary is a wellestablished and well supported animal rescue centre based in South Yorkshire. Located on the border of Sheffield, Rotherham and Worksop the charity helps to rescue and rehome dogs, cats, horses, ponies, pigs, goats, hens, rabbits and other small animals. Founded in 1988 and registering as a charity in 1993, Thornberry has since been responsible for rescuing thousands of vulnerable animals and helping them to find a loving forever home. The animals that come to Thornberry arrive for a number of reasons. These include their

owners experiencing health or financial difficulties, family break-ups, stray animals that have been left to roam the streets alone and sadly welfare cases where animals have been abused or neglected. Once at Thornberry they receive the upmost care and attention from the team of highly skilled animal carers as well as specialist veterinary treatment. Animals are assessed for any medical and behavioural issues and then cared for accordingly before being matched to suitable owners. The sanctuary is located across two sites; their main site in North Anston where they house dogs, cats, rabbits

and other small animals and their Equine Centre in Ravenfield where horses, ponies, pigs, goats and hens call home. As the sanctuary is a charity and receives no government funding, it is wholly reliant on supporters’ donations, legacies and its own fundraising initiatives. Like many charitable organisations Thornberry faces a difficult environment due to COVID-19 but it seeks to raise funds through a number of ways. At their main site in North Anston, along with the animals being housed there, there are also a number of shops. Here you will find a second-hand bookshop showcasing

Harry Potter to Lord of the Rings, to the latest celebrity biographies and other genres. There is a vintage emporium where you can find hidden gems and antique treasures and also a preloved shoe shop that sells footwear, bags and other accessories. There is also a large barn that sells second-hand women’s, men’s and children’s clothing, stylish bric-a-brac, a kids corner full of toys, seasonal items, jewellery and other interesting pieces. These are all stocked through supporters’ donations, which are then sorted onsite and it is not uncommon to find designer pieces and pick up an absolute bargain. Along with the shops on offer there are also plans for a large garden centre style café onsite. The build for this will begin at the end of 2020 and will be completed by spring 2021. This new addition to the sanctuary will offer diners a space to relax and enjoy a coffee and cake, along with a more expansive menu including Sunday dinners, hot breakfasts, other hot and cold food and a variety of drinks. The venue will also become an events space which will enable the sanctuary to host its own activities onsite like dog first aid workshops, psychic nights and other events. It will also be available to the general public to book for

If anyone would like to visit the sanctuary then the shops are open to the public Tuesday – Sunday 11am-3pm with animal viewings by appointment only. To see the animals currently available at Thornberry then please visit www.thornberryanimalsanctuary.org and to speak to the team please phone 01909 564399

YIP - Sheffield - Issue 1 - 2020 P21

Protecting the Animals of South Yorkshire parties like baby showers, 18th birthdays and other similar gatherings. During a normal year the sanctuary would host many events around South Yorkshire, however due to COVID-19 these have been put on hold. Past events have included Christmas and Easter Fairs and also their flagship dog show Pooches in the Park. These dog shows have been hosted at Clifton Park in Rotherham and Millhouses Park in Sheffield and regularly attract thousands of people and their dogs. For 2020 however, the dog show was moved online and recently saw over 400 participants and one thousand pounds raised. The sanctuary also held an abseil at Millers Dale Viaduct in the Peak District in August which saw 70 supporters abseiling a 70ft drop, raising over ÂŁ10,000 for Thornberry. The charity also seeks to help fund its resources and develop the sanctuary by applying for grants. In the last 12 months the sanctuary have received two grants from Battersea in London which have been used to develop two new buildings onsite. Firstly, is a new home from home room which will be a safe indoor space for the animals to enjoy and socialise with potential new owners, staff and volunteers. This room will provide an area in which cats can roam and dogs can enjoy time of the lead and familiarise themselves with a homelike environment after spending time at the sanctuary. The second grant from Battersea has enabled the sanctuary to build a new vet room which will be open in 2021. This vet room will mean that a lot of the animals at Thornberry can be treated, vaccinated and neutered onsite which will be of amazing value in increasing the welfare of the animals at the sanctuary. Along with these grants the charity has received help from the National Lottery, Support Adoption for Pets and most recently Tails.com amongst others. The tails.com grant was actually presented by TV presenter Lorraine Kelly and will pay for the outdoor exercise area to be AstroTurfed so it is a safer and cleaner space for the dogs to enjoy some outdoor exercise off the lead. Lorraine Kelly is not the only celebrity to have been associated with the sanctuary though, as last year saw Pete Wicks from The Only Way Is Essex visit the charity and help to raise a whopping ÂŁ6,000. 2020 also saw a new trustee joining the board. Stuart Turner, owner of the award winning film and production company LensGo Visual Media, joined Thornberry bringing his business expertise and extensive network. Moving forwards the charity is navigating its way through the difficulties that COVID-19 is presenting but it is hoped like many that 2021 will be a much better year for all. With four new projects due for completion and more in the pipeline, the sanctuary continues to grow from strength to strength. With a Facebook following of over 50,000 people and a reputation for the upmost professional animal care, Thornberry is a growing hub within the animal community and within Yorkshire.

This months recipe...

Cinnamon buns

For the cinnamon bun dough

1. In a small saucepan heat the butter, milk and salt until the butter is melted. Allow the mixture to cool until it is lukewarm. 2. In a large bowl, stir together the flours, yeast, cardamom and sugar until combined. Make a well in the centre and crack in the eggs. Pour in the lukewarm milk mixture and stir everything together to form a sticky dough. You may have to use your hands as the dough becomes stiffer. 3. Oil the work surface with a teaspoon of olive oil. Turn the dough out onto the oiled surface and knead vigorously for 5-8 minutes, using a plastic scraper as needed to prise the dough from the work surface. Don’t be tempted to add flour, as this will make the buns dry and tough. Keep kneading until the dough is considerably less sticky, smoother and more

100g / 3½oz unsalted butter 200ml / 7fl oz milk 1 tsp salt 250g / 9oz plain or wholemeal plain flour, plus extra for dusting 250g / 9oz strong white flour 1½ tsp fast-action yeast 1 tsp ground cardamom (optional) 4 tbsp caster sugar 2 free-range eggs olive oil, for greasing

For the filling and topping 75g / 2½oz unsalted butter, softened 100g / 3½oz caster sugar 2 tbsp cinnamon 1 free-range egg, beaten

elastic. Shape into a ball, and put into a large, greased bowl. Cover the bowl with a clean tea towel and set aside in a warm place to prove for an hour, or until doubled in size. 4. Meanwhile, for the filling and topping, mix the softened butter in a bowl with half the sugar and 1 tablespoon of cinnamon. Use a fork to mix the sugar and spice into the butter until it is completely combined. Mix the remaining sugar and cinnamon in a separate bowl and set aside.

5. When the dough has risen, turn out onto a floured work surface and gently roll out into a 36x24cm rectangle. Spread the cinnamon-sugarbutter evenly over the dough with a table or palette knife. 6. With the longest edge closest to you, roll the dough up into a cylinder. Cut into 12 even slices. 7. Place each slice onto a flattened out paper cupcake case on a baking tray, or into a greased muffin tin. (Baking

in a muffin tin will make your cinnamon buns taller and domed.) Cover with a clean tea towel and set aside to prove again for 30-45 minutes, or until risen. 8. Pre-heat the oven to 200C/180C Fan/Gas 6. 9. Brush the tops of the buns with beaten egg and dust liberally with cinnamon sugar. Bake for 12 minutes until the buns are dark golden-brown. Enjoy warm with a cup of coffee.
