Discover What York Has To Offer This Christmas Find your Christmas Spirit as you soak up the euphoric atmosphere by taking a step back in time to historic York. Stroll along the quaint cobbled streets lined with twinkling lights and delightful boutique shops which greet you at every twist and turn. Discover York’s exquisite architecture, gothic cathedral and picturesque sights as you step into a true winter wonderland. Indulge in a mulled wine and mince pie as you enjoy all the wonderful things the festive markets have to offer. Sing to your heart’s content in some of Englands most beautiful renowned churches as the ever popular carol concerts & services are here once
again. Keep those family traditions alive with great pantomines to warm those hearts. Create memories to cherish forever and bring back those childhood memories of love and laughter at this time of festive cheer. Located outside the Designer Outlet on the 24th November the award winning Ice Factor is here again but this time promises to be better than ever. The real ice rink will become the centrepiece of Yorkshire’s Winter Wonderland and will stay here through the New Year until the 6th January, fun for all ages with a little helping hand from the penguins to help little ones. There will be a festive market, traditional fair rides and Santa’s grotto. Santa will also be cruising along the River Ouse where you can join him and his little helper for an hour’s adventure, or join him on board the Santa Express with the North Yorkshire
Moors Railways. Return trips from Pickering to Levisham, Grosmont to Goathland and Whitby to Glaisdale. Bookings for both of these trips held on weekends in December will need to be made quick as these are selling out fast. Cinderella will be performing at York Barbican Centre on the 21st-30th December, Sleeping Beauty from the 14th December until the 6th January at the Grand Opera Theatre and a one night show, blast from the past: A Victorian Christmas will be performed on the 18th December at The National Centre for Early Music which is based in a lovely medieval church. This is a traditional show from the time of Dickens & Hardy and a perfect opportunity to sing along to new and old carols. Various exciting concerts and services are being held at the world famous York Minster including Nine Lessons and Carols, Carols by Candlelight and the most popular concert of the year, York Minster Christmas Carol Concert. Tickets are required for these events. York Castle Museum is another great attraction and they too hold events throughout the festive season. Christmas decoration and chocolate making are just two of the workshops. Their exciting new exhibition, York Prison, means it’s got even better. Experience a brutal and crooked prison and meet the most notorious prisoners; and the legendary Highwayman Dick Turpin. York Prison focuses on the lives of eight former inmates as they bring them back to life. St Nicholas Fayre is one of the most popular Christmas markets in the UK and it will be here from the 29th November – 2nd December, it’s like a scene out of Dickens. There are carol singers, chestnut roasters, hot chocolate with brandy and the whole scene just glows with holiday lights and flickering candles as England’s early winter dusk sets in. The Fayre offers a range of markets specialising in gifts, crafts, and the very best local farm produce. Outside markets move into Parliament Street, St Sampsons Square and Coppergate. The indoor market, the first known as St Nicholas Fayre Medieval Market, is held in Barley Hall, the magnificent medieval townhouse. Medieval costumed traders gather to sell their wares including unique gifts, and traditional wine and ale. St Williams College houses an arts and crafts market for fine handmade items not to be found in the shops.

ALL ABOUT CHRISTMAS
Have you started Christmas Shopping? There may be weeks left before Christmas but loads of shops are already running out on the top toys of this year and pre-order toys to be released soon have also hit the market. Be prepared and organised! Write down a list of everyone you would like to buy for, this way you can mark them off as you buy instead of just willy nilly buying randomly. It also saves you
from going ‘o no instead of o yes’ when on Christmas day you open a perfectly presented present from Aunt Griselda only to realise you forgot to buy her something in return. Christmas however, isn’t just about the gifts under the tree; it’s about thinking about others and spending quality time with those you love. It certainly is not about how much you spend on one
another or how much they spend on you, so don’t fret if you’re hard on cash this year. Budget, write how much you are willing to spend on each person and stick to it. Look in lots of shops and compare online but don’t just buy something because it looks more expensive than it, think about the individual and what they would like to receive. What are they into? What do they like to do? How old are they? Once you know what you’re vaguely looking for it should be easier to
find the right gift for that person. Take time to wrap gifts, think bows and ribbons for the finishing touches, this gives the impression you have taken the time to buy their gifts. Christmas shopping is exciting and fun when your relaxed, so start early to avoid panicking and rushing about like a headless chicken. Being a savvy Christmas shopper might also mean you can splash out on a new outfit for that special Christmas party you have been looking forward to all year.

ALL ABOUT CHRISTMAS
WHAT ABOUT A WINTER WEDDING
A Magical Winter Wedding
Dreaming of a winter wedding? Who can blame you, they are without a doubt, super glamorous, stylish and truly magical. With lots of preparation and clever ideas your winter wedding will be a wonderland to remember forever. Romantic and cosy venues are the key to creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Think of atmospheric candle-lit castles complete with roaring open log fires, glorious historic buildings with high ceilings and original beams surrounded by acres of unspoilt countryside and lakes, enchanting churches amidst the most beautiful gardens you have ever seen or simply wonderfully charming hotels and lodges set in secluded gardens. All of these make for a very special wedding, unique to you and your loved one. Transform your winter venue into a magical
grotto of twinkling lights, flickering candles and seasonal colours. Winter is the perfect time for seasonal favourites like smoked salmon, Palma ham and smoked sun-dried tomato bruschetta or warming winter soup
entrees. Follow these with roast lamb or beef, rich desserts and cheese boards and one of my favourite winter necessities, mulled wine! You may wish to make the most of the early winter evenings and wow your guests with a fireworks display. With the sun setting as early as 4.15pm, a firework display timed to coincide with your first toast as husband and wife will make your champagne reception
truly unforgettable. Keep warm and stylish with beautiful accessories from faux fur boleros, shrugs and capes to bride’s winter boots and willies. Winter wedding flower arrangements featuring seasonal elements such as pinecones, holly and evergreen boughs add festive touch to your wintery celebration. Good luck, enjoy your big day and best wishes for your future together.
