What does it mean to RetReat ? To pull back. To remove. To Separate. To step away from harms way.
Retreats allow us to drop into our minds without the distractions of everyday life. Combining yoga, meditation, and awareness with the natural world. In the serenity of nature, spending time in the wilderness naturally deepens a sense of interconnectedness. As one quiets the mind, one is able to connect with the natural world with a sharper sense of awareness.
Have you ever started eating a snack, taken a few bites, then noticed that all you had left was an empty packet in your hand? Or have you ever been driving somewhere and arrived at your destination only to realize you remember nothing about your journey? These are common examples of mindlessness, the mind on autopilot. The world we live in is a busy one and our brains become conditioned to the overload of stimulus. The brain itself, constantly multitasking with thoughts. One of the major problems of struggle today, is the inability to slow down, to focus on ONE task, to let go of judgment and expectation, to still the fluctuations of the mind, to be present. Becoming more aware of our thoughts, feelings and sensations may not sound like an obviously answer, however learning to do this in a way that suspends judgment and self-criticism can have an
exceptionally positive impact on our lives as a whole.
The Beauty of Retreat is that it allows us to return to our natural state of mind - a mind uncluttered by busyness and technology - a mind free to take in the vastness of the earth and the spaciousness of our consciousness.
Reset. Reconnect. RediscoveR.
Being removed from everyday routine, we have the opportunity to Reset. To obtain mindfulness of activities of daily living. The Gratitude Door at Akashic Ranch Reconnect with nature, other people, and get to know ourselves again. See things in clearer perspective. The first step is purification. Through mindfulness practices such as yoga, meditation, mantra, walking, mindful eating, reading, journaling, colouring, crafting, communicating, listening and contemplating.
Creating opportunities for self-exploration, personal growth and transformation. It is through these mindfulness practices one is able to peel back the layers, and uncover self. Rediscover True Self. BY MAGGY DAVIDSON he use of shielding and protection are often omitted in esoteric teachings. However, everyone who works as a healer or energy practitioner or psychic reader will benefit from using shielding and tools to protect themselves. There are times when an individual will leave us feeling drained and exhausted. Were you aware you may have been leaking your energy to them? Our energy, which comes from Source (or God or the Universe), is an unlimited supply. Yet not everyone comprehends that they can tap into their own unlimited supply. Many will draw (and pull) upon the energies of others. They might be parasitic (not conscious they are doing so) or a vampire (“you always make me feel full of energy”) and yet in either case, you would experience a lack of energy and in severe cases, exhausted. There are many ways to shield and protect yourself: crystals, smudging, shielding, scent, salt, etc. For crystals, the ones most often worn for protection are dark coloured stones such as lapis lazouli, labradorite, hematite, onyx, obsidian, tiger eye, smoky quartz, etc. Most often for protection purposes, the stones are opaque or dark. The key with using crystals for protection is intent. Shielding is placed on top of your aura to conserve your own energy (which you receive from Source). To create your shield, intend an egg shaped clear protection over top of your aura that holds in your energy and transmutes to positive any negative invasive thoughts of others. Wearing your energetic shield is done with intent and you will notice that you can control when you receive psychic information so you will have your own peaceful space. Keep out the negative. Walk-TALL and Carry Two-Sticks!
BY SHERI SIMSON
alking activates many positively wonderful things in our bodies: improving circulation and blood-flow; decreasing blood-pressure and cholesterol; strengthening muscles and bones. It also helps us to keep our weight in check which increases our energy and helps to feel healthier and happier. I don’t know many people who come back from even a
simple, slow stroll not feeling better than before they left. Most return saying “Wow, I feel GREAT . . .Why don’t I do that more often?”
in a 30min walk). That’s 2,000 tummy-crunches, in just ½ an
hour! Before you know it you’ll be sitting, standing and walking taller all the time!
Poor posture also makes you slouch forward and can compress your chest cavity causing you to shallow-breath
– which is NOT healthy for you - causing you to restrict the oxygen and blood-flow to your heart, your lungs, your brain and all of your muscles.
Proper alignment and Posture is key. Using walking poles engages over 90% of your major-muscles. This in turn spreads your weight out and up - helping you to impact the
ground 26% lighter. A welcome benefit for those who have
back, hip, knee, ankle or feet challenges. It can help make
the difference between not-being-able-to walk and beingable-to walk for some people.
Sheri Simson, is a Health & Fitness Ambassador who speaks, coaches & writes about taking responsibility for your own Health - Check out her Story and learn more about Pole Walking at www.keenfit.com
Adding Walking Poles to that same walk not only amplifies
all of the amazing benefits, but it takes your walk to the next level. Walking Poles affect the way you hold your body and how you move.
STAND STRAIGHTER Poor posture (slouching) is the #1 leading, causes of most
chronic pain issues in our shoulder neck and spine. When you Walk with Poles (provided you have them set correctly)
you are automatically forced to stand-tall, in proper alignment.

DetectiveParents: Let'sgetcuriousabout ourkidsandstress BY JANICE OTREMBA
It's been a rough day. You come home from a work, flop on the couch and exclaim, "Man, it's been a cruddy day." Everyone knows you’re stressed. Our kids tell us they’re stressed in different ways. Older kids and teens might complain about how screwed up school is, or they slam the door and mutter “I’m fine” when we ask them how they are. Our younger kids often don't have the tools to communicate how they feel. They don't always know words like "worried," "annoyed" or "confused" that we use in an adult context. DIAGNOSING OUR KIDS' STRESS
Kids run and jump and play. How could they possibly be stressed out? The Canadian Mental Health Association says one in five young Canadians suffer from rising levels of anxiety, stress, depression and risk of suicide. They get stressed out by: Parents going through divorce Change, like moving to a new community or school Too much homework Peer pressure and bullying
Our jobs as adults include recognizing the symptoms of stress, identifying the stressors and guiding our kids through the quagmire. We must don our detective hats, ask questions and get curious about why our children are behaving the way they are. We can watch for such negative behaviours as: Clinginess Avoidance Fear, shyness Temper tantrums Lack of engagement, communication
Once we identify the symptoms and stressors, we can build a safer environment for our children to grow and thrive. They need strong, adult influences from parents, other family members, education providers and general members of the community. When they know they're not alone, their stress levels go down. When they know they have a strong support network, they feel a sense of purpose. They feel stronger, more confident. This is an abbreviated post adopted from JaniceOtremba.com/blog Janice Otremba is a professional speaker, facilitator and coach who specializes in stress management, health and wellness, personal growth and life balance. MEDITATION and FREEDOM
T O M E D I TA T E
First, sit quietly, close your eyes, and watch for some time. Observe that your mind is forever changing, but you, the watcher of the mind, are forever unchanging. You are always present as the knower of all these happenings.
This unchanging witness is yourself, and this you is never attached to or caught up in the ever-changing mind.
You might think that you are not meditating because you’re noticing so many thoughts. But the fact is that this mental activity is going on all the time. In meditation, you simply take time to pause and watch your mind. By sitting regularly in meditation, day by day, you start to relax about all the activity in your mind, and not be concerned about it. You realize that your mind can be more or less active, but it doesn’t disturb you. You continue to sit and watch throughout any thinking that goes on.
reedom is your natural state of being, your true nature. You are free, and this wisdom can be unfolded in meditation. Meditation is a state of pure selfawareness where you know freedom. You find balance in your self, free from bondage to your mind’s changing troubles. You find your best you, your happiest you where you can live with health, clarity and confidence.
You are like the lotus flower - one with all the wonderful world, yet forever remaining pure and clear in the knowledge of your own freedom.
Padma Shyam is the Founder of Padma Meditation www.padmameditation.com
In this freedom, you enjoy life, being no longer driven to behave in ways that make you unhappy. You’re free to be happy, free from anxiety and fears. Meditation reveals perfect contentment, satisfaction and fulfillment; with a deep sense of security and wholeness. Meditation is a direct experience of your innate freedom and joy. In meditation, you take a pause from following what’s going on in your mind. In this pause, you just watch your mind, without reacting to it. This pause is a powerful practice, as it gives you some moments for a new perspective on what you’re thinking. Your mind’s attention normally notices what you perceive through your senses, as well as what you’re creatively thinking or remembering. As long as you continue only to pay attention to all of this activity in your mind, without awareness that you’re doing this, then you’ll continue to believe in whatever you happen to perceive or think. The way to grow into freedom consciousness is to become aware of your mind. Then, you can be the master of your mind, not a slave to its constant fluctuations. Know that you are forever free. You are always pure being. Remind yourself, “I am pure, free, forever.” Summer 2016 | www.InteriorWellness.com 9
Ignite the Power of Your Absolute Truth through Sacred Andean Medicine
BY SANTA TIERRAS evered Q’ero Elder, Don Manuel Q’espe shared that “Absolute truth requires commitment to remembering simplicity, taking responsibility for yourself, stepping outside of your head and perceiving with your heart”. In day-to-day consensual reality we tend to be programmed to operate from relative truth. Indigenous cultures, such as the Andean Medicine People, remind us to source from our Absolute Truth, our heart’s desire. We remember to source from our absolute truth in a profound way when we engage in ceremony, ritual, and rites of passage through the ancient teachings of the Andean Medicine Lineage. Don Manuel Q’espe’s profound wisdom reminds us that personal power has always been simple and “simplicity comes out of embodiment of responsibilities; choose your responsibilities carefully and simplicity will follow”. When we take responsibility for our own healing, our relationships and our experiences, we step into our personal power and live from absolute truth. The Andean Medicine Path teaches us to come back to our innate connection to Heaven and Earth through ceremony and ritual. Through a Sacred relationship with Pachamama (Mother Earth), we release our Hucha (Heavy Energy), including the stories that ‘don’t grow corn’ for us and our relationships. Releasing Hucha allows us to come into balance with Sami (Light) and remember our stillness and peace within. In this state of Ayni (Right Relationship) we are available to hear our inner wisdom and be guided by our absolute truth. Carol Bell and Laureen Block of Santa Tierras are passionate about sharing and preserving Indigenous Ceremony, Ritual and Healing through teaching and private practice. They received the Personal Rite of Passage from Don Manuel Q’espe, revered Q’ero Elder. www.santatierras.com 10 www.InteriorWellness.com | Summer 2016
Do You Feel Like You Belong?
BY ANGELA STRANK
here is no greater sense of belonging than belonging to our true life path. But for many of us that means we have to step outside the box, outside what is considered normal. It means we have to move away from our deep social conditioning that we must be normal to fit in. This social positioning was conditioned into us in our childhood and unless challenged will continue to influence us as adults. This inner conflict between our true calling and a deep desire to fit in can make manifesting a challenge. Stepping outside the box can be a lonely place at times. But here’s the thing; until we embrace the journey that is destined for us we will be left feeling unfulfilled, lost and ALONE.
Life can really open up for us and expand when we honour our true life path. We begin to know what it means to live a deeply fulfilled life. This fulfillment is what creates a sense of meaning and connectedness that fills our deep need to belong. Angela Strank is passionate about using her profound gifts to assist others in transforming and living their best lives. She is much more than a Life Coach, Intuitive Healer and Teacher. She is often referred to as the Life Changer. Using her gifts and talents she helps clients move through major life challenges into successful outcomes. Choose Healthier Sunscreen!
unburn season came quickly and early this year and many of us did not have the time to acclimate our skin to the intensity of the sun’s rays. If you are one who is worried about the effects of intense sun on your health you will probably be buying sun blocking lotions these days. Most commercial sunblock products contain one or more of the following harmful additives: oxybenzone, avoenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalata, and octinoxate, with oxybenzone being the most problematic (since it’s the most common).
Other problems with sunscreen include the use of retinyl palmitate, a form of vitamin A that actually increases users’ risk of skin cancer when exposed to the sun’s ultraviolet rays. Many commercial sunscreen manufacturers synthesize zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, the two most common active ingredients in sunscreen products, into nanoparticle form. This means the particle sizes of these ingredients are made unnaturally small, which poses health risks due to easy absorption.
Your best bet is to choose only natural, sunscreen products containing mineral-based, non-nanoparticle versions of either titanium dioxide or zinc oxide (zinc oxide is preferable), both of which provide physical protection against the sun’s rays without leaching dangerous chemicals into your body and skin. Another great option for skin protection is to eat plenty of foods with natural astaxanthin. Researcher shows this powerful antioxidant to be 550 times more potent than Vitamin E and 6000 times stronger than Vitamin C! Astaxanthin is a strong soldier of immunity and an antiinflammatory as it can “tackle” multiple free radicals at once. It increases blood flow, decreases blood pressure, and increases HDL’s while lowering triglycerides. You can find this powerful antioxidant in salmon and other seafood as well as in colourful red, orange and yellow vegetables, peppers, carrots, mangoes and guava. Cathy Lidster, Health Educator/Nutrition/Allergy Practitioner, offers free seminars monthly (see ad for schedule). The Importance of Focus
BY KRIS RAE
ulti-tasking. Many believe they can get more done in a day if they double-up (or triple or more) to get multiple tasks done at the same time. However, when you are always multifocused, nothing gets your full attention. This can result in increased stress, lack of effectiveness and organization. Not to mention the potential for unsatisfied clients, co-workers and family! There are certain tasks that can be done effectively in tandem: A thought focused task and a non-thought, action type task. Empty the dishwasher and talk to someone, go for a run and listen to an audio program, or cook and chat with the family. But even with this ability, there is a powerful message you can give to the different areas of your life when you utilize focus. What if you practice full, focused attention? What if children had their parents look them in the eye and listen intently when they relayed the details of their day? What if people took time for themselves that they didn't allow to be interrupted? Turning off phones, locking the door when enjoying a bath, heading out for a walk with only themselves for company! How productive would you be at work if you removed some distractions and gave full attention to one item at a time? If you gave focused time to the key areas of your life - each day - there would be an expansion in wellbeing, engagement with others and a strong sense of accomplishment. The key to the wellbeing component is in not being an altruist! So, remember to shine that focus on yourself too. You must take care of yourself to enable the ability to take care of the rest. Kris Rae teaches quick and easy stress relief and relaxation techniques for all ages in classes in Kamloops plus develops self-healing tools and guided meditations for home use. BY MARIANNA HARANGOZO
ooking back on ones past is like looking at a quilted blanket. We can see dark patches, light patches and memories, but in the end the blanket is what keeps us warm as we fully engage in this life we live. I came to the realization of Akashic Ranch a number of years ago while going through one of the hardest periods in my life. It was one of those times that tests ones self esteem, will and Spirit. No details needed here but the point is that in dark places we are led to find our true calling. As a young person I was always interested in the metaphysical and spiritual aspects of life, the beauty of crystals, why they made me feel the way they did, and the magic in things unseen. Of course at that time I had little knowledge of why all that intrigued me other than the guidance of a handful of “New Age” books I had read. During my time of hardship I experienced much contemplation, much realization into what I no longer wanted out of life, and more importantly how a life should be lived. That sort of life encompasses the things we have a right to feel on a daily basis which are Love, Peace, and the Connection to the Source. It took a number of years to pull myself together and all the while a nagging feeling of “What is it I’m to do?” kept at the back of my mind. I stayed busy in life knowing I had plans of moving to the interior, which had been with me since I can remember. Still, I was searching myself as to what I could do in life and how I could feel more complete. Acquiring the ranch that is now Akashic Ranch took four years to come to fruition, but once here on this Spirit driven land I began to receive clearer messages and answers to my questions. I tried a few different endeavours that didn’t work or feel right in the end and so as they say if it’s a battle then it’s not meant to be. Finally through prophetic dreams, I began to piece together
the makings of The Crystals & Curiosities Cabin store, and with it the ability to have more individuals come to Akashic Ranch and solidify in me why the ranch is so special and why others need to feel it’s healing energy. Today, Akashic Ranch is beacon of possibility to all who come here, it’s a place to remove oneself from daily life, and a place to connect with nature and who it is you really are. Akashic Ranch holds various workshops throughout the summer season and The Crystals & Curiosities Cabin holds all the magic one could hope to find in a country crystal store. Akashic Ranch is a full time endeavour for me. At the end of the day I find myself in the throws of a purpose driven life and when the sun goes down I’m physically spent but spiritually feeling deeply and greatly rewarded.

The Coming Harvest
BY TANIA NIEDBALA
016 is a 9 year in numerology, representative of letting go of anything that is not in alignment with your higher purpose. As a reflection of this many individuals are experiencing much change in all major areas of life. In times like these the guidance “this too shall Passâ€? are words to be humbly considered. Presently there is a deep, collective longing for a more harmonic way to live life - beyond the daily race. A huge amount of collective baggage is being released this year. Stress and frustration are valuable guidance to what areas of life require more clarity and authenticity. No longer can anything be brushed under the carpet or avoided; it will come up again. The truth reigns in the end. As the seasons flow there is a cycle in our lives coming up for completion this year; weaving into a renewal next year. 2017 is a 1 year in numerology representative of new beginning. So know that we are actively planting seeds this summer of our harvest for next year. What seeds will you choose to sow? This is an opportune time to make changes that you have known were needed for a very long time. As we can see all around us old foundations are collapsing. This offers an opportunity to create and embrace a new, sustainable, unifying foundation in which to build anew: collectively and personally. Having a consistent awareness of our communications, thoughts and behaviours is important in theses times. There is an amplification of manifestation ability and our choices and decisions are best made from the heart. A daily practice of engaging with the sacred all around us will bring our focus to compassion, gratitude and love. A magical energetic gift to share with the collective. Together lets invite peace to this earth. And remember only love is real, and so it is. Tania Niedbala’s mission is supporting personal empowerment & transformation. Why You Should Drop What You’re Doing & Book A Retreat Right Now!
BY DEANNA DEACON
ou’re busy. You’re so so busy. Life is all about being busy. Right? What if that answer was wrong? What if life didn’t have to be so busy. What if, for one weekend, you could escape the busy-ness of your every waking moment and retreat inwards while exploring outwards? Welcome to the world of retreats or adult camps. For anyone who hasn’t been, pack up this magazine and go find one to attend! It is a world within a world. A world where there are no worries, no stressors and you are surrounded by your tribe. Envision sitting in a beautiful forest location, a view of the glistening water through the trees, and the sound of birds chirping behind you, knowing that right here, in this moment, you are EXACTLY where you are meant to be. This isn’t like any other camping trip, this is exquisitely different. Here you are taken care of, no thoughts about cooking, planning activities, packing for everyone...here, you are the GUEST! Everyone is here to cater to you. All you have to do is breathe in that freedom. Here you will be lifted up energetically by the tribe you surround yourself with. You will challenge both your mind and your body beyond your current limitations and feel love and admiration towards your amazing teachers. Finally you can detoxify your being from technology’s grasp, expand your awareness and meet amazing new friends. You will feel incredibly powerful and purposeful, unleash your internal creativity and eat amazing food; all while breathing in nothing but fresh, natural air. If you’re ready to feel one with nature AND with yourself, then it’s time to retreat. You have access to so many amazing locations that host retreats and camps all across the globe - all you have to do is commit. Commit to changing your life once and for all and finally acknowledging that you are worth it. Deanna Deacon is a certified Holistic Health Coach and founder of Vitality Pure. “Each morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters most” - Buddha
Morning Rituals to Live a Balanced Life WAKE UP TO LEMON, GINGER & CAYENNE
The purpose of consuming something as soon as you wake up is to break the fast that your body just endured (hence, “break” “fast”). So instead of instantly diluting your recently cleansed and rested body with sugar, dairy products and stimulants, try naturally waking up and continuing your cleanse with a cup of hot water, fresh squeezed lemon, grated ginger and a dash of cayenne pepper. The lemon will aid in cleansing and purifying your body, the ginger is known for its antibacterial and anti-inflammation properties and the cayenne will kick start your metabolism for the day. Hello energized!
NATURAL ALARM CLOCK
You know that moment when you wake up 40 minutes before your alarm and think, “YES! 40 more minutes of sleep” and then roll over and promptly dose off, and then in what seems like a moment’s time, your alarm goes off and you feel groggy, gross and grumpy? Next time that happens, lovingly push yourself to actually GET UP that 40 minutes early. When we roll over and fall back to sleep, we mess with our REM cycles. This leads to an abrupt wake up, disgruntled mindset and an option to start your day off in the grumps. * keep your blinds open so your body can naturally wake up to the early morning light *
BREATHE BEFORE YOU BROWSE
Before you reach for your phone to see who was up late posting on Facebook & what work emails have already come in, STOP. Close your eyes and breathe in a deep, cleansing breath, hold it for a count of three, and then slowly release it through your nose. Do this 5 times. In this act, you are 28 www.InteriorWellness.com | Summer 2016
awakening your body, mind & soul to the day BEFORE any external influences decide how you should feel. YOU are choosing who you will be for the day. YOU are deciding what thoughts to wake up to. It is not only empowering, it is vital for the busy “take-on-the-world” kind of person.
Breathing in fresh, crisp morning air is amazing for revitalizing your morning. Try waking up 20 minutes early & going outside for a stroll. Or, if there simply isn’t time, go stick your head out the window and breathe in deep. Connecting to nature before connecting with our fast-paced world will allow you to feel grounded, centered and at peace. Practice the same breathing technique you did before browsing your phone with the fresh air and you will experience that sense of internal balance.
CREATE ONE GOAL FOR THE DAY
This goal can be as simple as “check the mail box” or as deep & reflective as “experience every situation from a place of gratitude and love”. This ONE goal is reflective of what you need for the day. And don’t think you’re doing yourself a favour by setting 2 or 3 of these goals – the emphasis on only ONE goal is to allow your mind to focus and to experience success. With so many “to-do’s” in our lives, it’s important to have ONE place of focus and ONE action required to feel successful and vibrant in your day. Deanna Deacon is a certified Holistic Health Coach & founder of Vitality Pure. She helps clients access their natural healing abilities, experience whole body nourishment and start living each day feeling grounded, supported & balanced. If you’re ready to live a balanced & fulfilled life, join Deanna in a complimentary Soul Clarity Session. Simply email her stating WHY you’re seeking balance at: firstname.lastname@example.org
“No Pain, No Gain"
Is this True?
BY LAURA PELLETIER or many years we were told" No Pain, No Gain" and we believed it. Studies have now been done that found this not to be true, you don't have to have the pain to get the gain. Just do what you are capable of doing - it’s better than doing nothing. Pain generally means one of the following: injury is happening within the muscles; lactic acid build up, old injuries are being aggravated. As we get older we have more pain without even working out! We might experience less energy, old bad habits we had are now showing up, things are not working properly, and the list goes on!
There are many ways to get the same results, without having to spend long hours exercising: only work out until you feel you have had enough - without pushing it. Whole Body Vibration (WBV) is one excellent way to get lots of gain with no pain!
Whole Body Vibration, has been around since the 60’s. It was used for astronauts in space to prevent muscle loss, circulation, and keep bone mass. Now we are seeing how it helps with many other conditions.
WBV provides benefits of both Anaerobic and Aerobic exercise, with blood circulation, and increased oxygen in the blood, and Human Growth Hormone (HGH), additionally worldwide research highlights the physiological and neuromuscular benefits unique to Whole body Vibration.
WBV is moveable and smaller than a treadmill, saves on power, and can travel: it can replace most of the traditional exercise equipment. And the best part about Whole Body Vibration is that just about can use it!

i-Rest Yoga Nidra woke Yvette Lehmann up
he 47 year-old Kamloops-based yoga teacher admits that she had been asleep most of her adult life. Despite five years of teaching and 14 years of diligent practice Lehmann had been unaware of her true nature. Like most people she had more questions than answers. “I spent years wondering who I was, why I was here, what my purpose as a human being was. Was there more to life then working to pay my bills and the occasional family holiday? What does real happiness feels like?” Lehmann says. i-Rest woke her to the reality of her life. “With i-Rest, I saw that all I thought was my real world was really a creation of my mind. I’m not lovable enough, smart enough, good enough, talented enough, to be truly happy.” But i-Rest Yoga Nidra, which is an ancient Tantric yogic practice of deeply relaxed meditation, allowed her to accept the unique and powerful creation that she’d always been. “It’s a systematic approach, typically practiced lying down, that essentially ‘massages’ the brain by taking a guided journey through different body parts. This induces a profound state of receptive relaxation.” Lehmann says.
“Within this deep state of effortlessness, your innate “knowing” or intelligence reveals solutions, revelations and resolutions, so that you can address the issues, questions and conundrums of your daily life.”
An on-going Yoga Nidra practice leads to decrease in stress, increased immunity, and improved memory and focus. Practitioners also claim a deeper sense of purpose, resolution of personal problems and a neutralization and alleviation of anxiety, fear, anger, and depression.
“It teaches you to respond to life with your heart rather than your mind. When you respond that way, you are led by your soul to your ultimate fulfillment…You wake up to your true self”.
Yvette is a certified Hatha, Vinyasa Flow, Yin Yoga and iRest Nidra Meditation Instructor. She believes in the spiritual experience of the practice. www.yogawithyvette.ca

What a magnificent creature; just think about what it went through in order to achieve its glorious new state! The butterfly is the perfect metaphor for our own transformation. The process it goes through sheds much light on our own journey to becoming a more authentic version of ourselves.
When the caterpillar enters metamorphosis, it completely breaks down. If you were to open the cocoon at this stage of the process you would find nothing but “primordial goo”. Yet, what happens is that cells called imaginal cells begin to emerge. Interestingly, the ‘goo’ sees these new cells as a foreign threat and they are destroyed. But, as they increase in number, the cells specify and group together overcoming the destructive action of the previous creature. It becomes a whole new being.
Humans are not so different. When people choose to embark on the path of transformation they are often met with much resistance, which can attempt to sabotage any steps taken to change. There is a deep belief system led by ego that wants to remain in the driver’s seat. It likes control and will try to keep it at all costs. By becoming aware of ego, one can use their own consciousness to observe, and respectfully choose not to follow the path of the ego. Heart can step in. When the heart leads, it can begin to communicate to the mind and emotions one’s authentic state of being.
When the heart leads, peace, balance and calm can prevail. The heart gives direction as to who the authentic self is. This is our future self. The more we can use this ‘future’ self to direct our actions, words and behaviour, the easier it gets to lovingly let go of ego. It may still rear its ugly head, but it no longer has control. The butterfly has emerged. Cate is a Certified Professional Coach helping busy people thrive with more joy and balanced lives. Q Barbara: How does medical intuition work?
A Helen: Medical Intuition is a science, where the medical intuitive practitioner uses their highly developed sense of intuition to source the cause of an emotional, spiritual, or physical condition in a client’s energy field. The medical intuitive has the ability to discern where perhaps a personal trauma may have caused an emotional block somewhere in the client’s body. Working with the client on an energetic level will allow buried emotions to arise and release. These emotions could date back to childhood or even back to another lifetime. Releasing these emotions creates a shift in the energy and healing can begin. Q Sally: Does a medical intuitive diagnose? A Helen: No only a medical doctor is allowed to diagnose. Q Brian: Does the client have to see the medical intuitive in person? A Helen: No not at all, the client can be on the other side of the world. All that is required is a first name, age and permission. The medical intuitive can intuitively tune in remotely to the client’s energy. A certified medical intuitive will be able to give as much information as they can access. Emotions and thoughts may come to the foreground. These may be unresolved that perhaps the client did not realize they were still holding unto, but that were creating energetic shifts in their body. The insights gained from an intuitive medical scan help many understand why they may be in pain whether it is physical or emotional and steps they can take to regain their health. Five Steps to Creating Your Perfect
Affirmation BY FRAN BANTING
ffirmations. You’ve heard of them. Those “go to” statements that shift you from one mood or energy to another. Delivering a powerful message to yourself can have a powerful effect on your day, your behaviour, and your results. So, why is it then that so many people have affirmations that just don’t work? Perhaps it’s time to take a closer look at affirmations and how they can be better worded to get greater results.
What is the purpose of your affirmation? This may sound logical but many people are not clear on the result they want to achieve. What is the action that will occur? Is it to increase something such as your energy, or is it to control something and bring it down? Understanding the action you want will create some clarity for you.
When do you plan to use this affirmation? Is this statement something you want to use at a set time of day, or is it a statement you want to call upon when you are faced with certain situations? Knowing when you will be using it will help you in your planning which in turn will keep you prepared and focused. Decide your time, place and situation.
How do you want to feel when you use the statement? Your affirmation is there to help you “be” a certain way. Do you want to be happy, excited, calm, relaxed, patient, understanding? Knowing how you want to feel will help you define your statement.
State your affirmation in the present tense. Your affirmation should be recited as if it is already here and happening. Own the statement as if you are already being, doing or having the result you want. Start with “I am” or “I have”.
Use “Superlatives”! Praise yourself to the highest degree. Make yourself the best, the greatest, the most wonderful. This will magnify your feelings and your results!
When you are clear on these points, you will be able to build your affirmation with clarity and understanding. It should bring a visual picture in your mind so clear that you can see and feel the end result.
And if you do it correctly, it should bring a smile to your face every time and begin to attract the results you want to achieve!

Grieving an Unborn Child
BY NANCY HADDEN
he loss of a child is an unnatural event. Parents are meant to outlive their children. Yet at the same time, the number of children who die before they are ever born is staggering. Miscarriage is far more common than one may expect. These losses are not often talked about and for those who have not had a similar experience, they may feel at a loss for what to say or how to help. The fact remains, the child existed, and, whether the pregnancy was welcomed with great joy or was met with a less positive attitude, parents, mothers in particular, grieve their unknown child. Acknowledging that the child was a real person is an important first step. Many parents have a sense of the child’s gender and they should trust their intuition about that. Naming their child gives the child dignity and allows the parents to honour that life. One way family and friends can show their support is by buying flowers for the parents. Often family and friends worry they will just make things worse if they bring up the baby, but all parents like to have their children acknowledged. Having others show their concern, compassion and sadness also allows the parents to know it is okay to grieve. There are likely not many mementos of this very short life, but even a card or a dried flower or piece of ribbon from a bouquet can be a treasured keepsake. Phrases such as, “At least you have other children,” or, “You can always have more,” are not helpful, and, in fact, are quite hurtful. When one doesn’t know what to say, it suffices to simply say, “I am sorry for your loss.” All parents have the right to grieve the loss of someone so precious.
