BY MAGGY DAVIDSON he use of shielding and protection are often omitted in esoteric teachings. However, everyone who works as a healer or energy practitioner or psychic reader will benefit from using shielding and tools to protect themselves. There are times when an individual will leave us feeling drained and exhausted. Were you aware you may have been leaking your energy to them? Our energy, which comes from Source (or God or the Universe), is an unlimited supply. Yet not everyone comprehends that they can tap into their own unlimited supply. Many will draw (and pull) upon the energies of others. They might be parasitic (not conscious they are doing so) or a vampire (“you always make me feel full of energy”) and yet in either case, you would experience a lack of energy and in severe cases, exhausted. There are many ways to shield and protect yourself: crystals, smudging, shielding, scent, salt, etc. For crystals, the ones most often worn for protection are dark coloured stones such as lapis lazouli, labradorite, hematite, onyx, obsidian, tiger eye, smoky quartz, etc. Most often for protection purposes, the stones are opaque or dark. The key with using crystals for protection is intent. Shielding is placed on top of your aura to conserve your own energy (which you receive from Source). To create your shield, intend an egg shaped clear protection over top of your aura that holds in your energy and transmutes to positive any negative invasive thoughts of others. Wearing your energetic shield is done with intent and you will notice that you can control when you receive psychic information so you will have your own peaceful space. Keep out the negative. It's been a rough day. You come home from a work, flop on the couch and exclaim, "Man, it's been a cruddy day." Everyone knows you’re stressed. Our kids tell us they’re stressed in different ways. Older kids and teens might complain about how screwed up school is, or they slam the door and mutter “I’m fine” when we ask them how they are. Our younger kids often don't have the tools to communicate how they feel. They don't always know words like "worried," "annoyed" or "confused" that we use in an adult context. DIAGNOSING OUR KIDS' STRESS

Kids run and jump and play. How could they possibly be stressed out? The Canadian Mental Health Association says one in five young Canadians suffer from rising levels of anxiety, stress, depression and risk of suicide. They get stressed out by: Parents going through divorce Change, like moving to a new community or school Too much homework Peer pressure and bullying

Our jobs as adults include recognizing the symptoms of stress, identifying the stressors and guiding our kids through the quagmire. We must don our detective hats, ask questions and get curious about why our children are behaving the way they are. We can watch for such negative behaviours as: Clinginess Avoidance Fear, shyness Temper tantrums Lack of engagement, communication

Once we identify the symptoms and stressors, we can build a safer environment for our children to grow and thrive. They need strong, adult influences from parents, other family members, education providers and general members of the community. When they know they're not alone, their stress levels go down. When they know they have a strong support network, they feel a sense of purpose. They feel stronger, more confident. First, sit quietly, close your eyes, and watch for some time. Observe that your mind is forever changing, but you, the watcher of the mind, are forever unchanging. You are always present as the knower of all these happenings.

This unchanging witness is yourself, and this you is never attached to or caught up in the ever-changing mind.

You might think that you are not meditating because you’re noticing so many thoughts. But the fact is that this mental activity is going on all the time. In meditation, you simply take time to pause and watch your mind. By sitting regularly in meditation, day by day, you start to relax about all the activity in your mind, and not be concerned about it. You realize that your mind can be more or less active, but it doesn’t disturb you. You continue to sit and watch throughout any thinking that goes on.

reedom is your natural state of being, your true nature. You are free, and this wisdom can be unfolded in meditation. Meditation is a state of pure selfawareness where you know freedom. You find balance in your self, free from bondage to your mind’s changing troubles. You find your best you, your happiest you where you can live with health, clarity and confidence.

You are like the lotus flower - one with all the wonderful world, yet forever remaining pure and clear in the knowledge of your own freedom.

In this freedom, you enjoy life, being no longer driven to behave in ways that make you unhappy. You’re free to be happy, free from anxiety and fears. Choose Healthier Sunscreen!

unburn season came quickly and early this year and many of us did not have the time to acclimate our skin to the intensity of the sun’s rays. If you are one who is worried about the effects of intense sun on your health you will probably be buying sun blocking lotions these days. Most commercial sunblock products contain one or more of the following harmful additives: oxybenzone, avoenzone, octisalate, octocrylene,homosalata, and octinoxate, with oxybenzone being the most problematic (since it’s the most common).

Other problems with sunscreen include the use of retinyl palmitate, a form of vitamin A that actually increases users’ risk of skin cancer when exposed to the sun’s ultraviolet rays. Many commercial sunscreen manufacturers synthesize zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, the two most common active ingredients in sunscreen products, into nanoparticle form. This means the particle sizes of these ingredients are made unnaturally small, which poses health risks due to easy absorption.

Your best bet is to choose only natural, sunscreen products containing mineral-based, non-nanoparticle versions of either titanium dioxide or zinc oxide (zinc oxide is preferable), both of which provide physical protection against the sun’s rays without leaching dangerous chemicals into your body and skin. Another great option for skin protection is to eat plenty of foods with natural astaxanthin. Researcher shows this powerful antioxidant to be 550 times more potent than Vitamin E and 6000 times stronger than Vitamin C! Astaxanthin is a strong soldier of immunity and an antiinflammatory as it can “tackle” multiple free radicals at once. It increases blood flow, decreases blood pressure, and increases HDL’s while lowering triglycerides. You can find this powerful antioxidant in salmon and other seafood as well as in colourful red, orange and yellow vegetables, peppers, carrots, mangoes and guava. How to use

Place 3-7 drops of essential oil into boiling water. Some essential oils to consider include: Eucalyptus, Thyme, Lemon and Tea Tree. Cover head with towel and breathe through the nose. Keep eyes closed!

Baths

Add 2-12 drops (depending on essential oil) into a teaspoon of honey, carrier oil or sea/epsom salt then add to bath once you are in the bath. Relax and inhale the steam, all your tensions will be softened, your mood will be uplifted and you will feel peace.

Body and massaGe oiLs

These are a combination of carrier oils and added essential oils. Massage on moist skin & just the right amount of essential oil will be absorbed into your system.

Use a steam diffuser or a soapstone diffuser using natural candles and water. Add 2 to 10 drops (depending on the strength you prefer and the oils you use) the air will be moistened (especially good in the winter by heated dry air)

The Importance of Focus

ulti-tasking. Many believe they can get more done in a day if they double-up (or triple or more) to get multiple tasks done at the same time. However, when you are always multifocused, nothing gets your full attention. This can result in increased stress, lack of effectiveness and organization. Not to mention the potential for unsatisfied clients, co-workers and family! There are certain tasks that can be done effectively in tandem: A thought focused task and a non-thought, action type task. Empty the dishwasher and talk to someone, go for a run and listen to an audio program, or cook and chat with the family. But even with this ability, there is a powerful message you can give to the different areas of your life when you utilize focus. What if you practice full, focused attention? What if children had their parents look them in the eye and listen intently when they relayed the details of their day? What if people took time for themselves that they didn't allow to be interrupted? Turning off phones, locking the door when enjoying a bath, heading out for a walk with only themselves for company! How productive would you be at work if you removed some distractions and gave full attention to one item at a time? If you gave focused time to the key areas of your life - each day - there would be an expansion in wellbeing, engagement with others and a strong sense of accomplishment. The key to the wellbeing component is in not being an altruist! So, remember to shine that focus on yourself too. You must take care of yourself to enable the ability to take care of the rest. ooking back on ones past is like looking at a quilted blanket. We can see dark patches, light patches and memories, but in the end the blanket is what keeps us warm as we fully engage in this life we live. I came to the realization of Akashic Ranch a number of years ago while going through one of the hardest periods in my life. It was one of those times that tests ones self esteem, will and Spirit. No details needed here but the point is that in dark places we are led to find our true calling. As a young person I was always interested in the metaphysical and spiritual aspects of life, the beauty of crystals, why they made me feel the way they did, and the magic in things unseen. Of course at that time I had little knowledge of why all that intrigued me other than the guidance of a handful of “New Age” books I had read. During my time of hardship I experienced much contemplation, much realization into what I no longer wanted out of life, and more importantly how a life should be lived. That sort of life encompasses the things we have a right to feel on a daily basis which are Love, Peace, and the Connection to the Source. It took a number of years to pull myself together and all the while a nagging feeling of “What is it I’m to do?” kept at the back of my mind. I stayed busy in life knowing I had plans of moving to the interior, which had been with me since I can remember. Still, I was searching myself as to what I could do in life and how I could feel more complete. Acquiring the ranch that is now Akashic Ranch took four years to come to fruition, but once here on this Spirit driven land I began to receive clearer messages and answers to my questions. I tried a few different endeavours that didn’t work or feel right in the end and so as they say if it’s a battle then it’s not meant to be. Finally through prophetic dreams, I began to piece together

the makings of The Crystals & Curiosities Cabin store, and with it the ability to have more individuals come to Akashic Ranch and solidify in me why the ranch is so special and why others need to feel it’s healing energy. Today, Akashic Ranch is beacon of possibility to all who come here, it’s a place to remove oneself from daily life, and a place to connect with nature and who it is you really are. Akashic Ranch holds various workshops throughout the summer season and The Crystals & Curiosities Cabin holds all the magic one could hope to find in a country crystal store. Akashic Ranch is a full time endeavour for me. At the end of the day I find myself in the throws of a purpose driven life and when the sun goes down I’m physically spent but spiritually feeling deeply and greatly rewarded.

The purpose of consuming something as soon as you wake up is to break the fast that your body just endured (hence, “break” “fast”). So instead of instantly diluting your recently cleansed and rested body with sugar, dairy products and stimulants, try naturally waking up and continuing your cleanse with a cup of hot water, fresh squeezed lemon, grated ginger and a dash of cayenne pepper. Just do what you are capable of doing - it’s better than doing nothing. Pain generally means one of the following: injury is happening within the muscles; lactic acid build up, old injuries are being aggravated. As we get older we have more pain without even working out! t’s summer again! Green grass, sunshine and ...butterflies. It’s lovely to see them in their glory floating from flower to flower. What a magnificent creature; just think about what it went through in order to achieve its glorious new state! The butterfly is the perfect metaphor for our own transformation. The process it goes through sheds much light on our own journey to becoming a more authentic version of ourselves.

When the caterpillar enters metamorphosis, it completely breaks down. If you were to open the cocoon at this stage of the process you would find nothing but “primordial goo”. Yet, what happens is that cells called imaginal cells begin to emerge. Interestingly, the ‘goo’ sees these new cells as a foreign threat and they are destroyed. But, as they increase in number, the cells specify and group together overcoming the destructive action of the previous creature. It becomes a whole new being.

Humans are not so different. When people choose to embark on the path of transformation they are often met with much resistance, which can attempt to sabotage any steps taken to change. There is a deep belief system led by ego that wants to remain in the driver’s seat. It likes control and will try to keep it at all costs. By becoming aware of ego, one can use their own consciousness to observe, and respectfully choose not to follow the path of the ego. Heart can step in. When the heart leads, it can begin to communicate to the mind and emotions one’s authentic state of being.

When the heart leads, peace, balance and calm can prevail. The heart gives direction as to who the authentic self is. This is our future self. The more we can use this ‘future’ self to direct our actions, words and behaviour, the easier it gets to lovingly let go of ego. It may still rear its ugly head, but it no longer has control. Q Barbara: How does medical intuition work?

A Helen: Medical Intuition is a science, where the medical intuitive practitioner uses their highly developed sense of intuition to source the cause of an emotional, spiritual, or physical condition in a client’s energy field. The medical intuitive has the ability to discern where perhaps a personal trauma may have caused an emotional block somewhere in the client’s body. Working with the client on an energetic level will allow buried emotions to arise and release. These emotions could date back to childhood or even back to another lifetime. Releasing these emotions creates a shift in the energy and healing can begin. Q Sally: Does a medical intuitive diagnose? A Helen: No only a medical doctor is allowed to diagnose. Q Brian: Does the client have to see the medical intuitive in person? A Helen: No not at all, the client can be on the other side of the world. All that is required is a first name, age and permission. The medical intuitive can intuitively tune in remotely to the client’s energy. A certified medical intuitive will be able to give as much information as they can access. Emotions and thoughts may come to the foreground. These may be unresolved that perhaps the client did not realize they were still holding unto, but that were creating energetic shifts in their body. ffirmations. You’ve heard of them. Those “go to” statements that shift you from one mood or energy to another. Delivering a powerful message to yourself can have a powerful effect on your day, your behaviour, and your results. So, why is it then that so many people have affirmations that just don’t work? Perhaps it’s time to take a closer look at affirmations and how they can be better worded to get greater results.

What is the purpose of your affirmation? This may sound logical but many people are not clear on the result they want to achieve. What is the action that will occur? Is it to increase something such as your energy, or is it to control something and bring it down? Understanding the action you want will create some clarity for you.

When do you plan to use this affirmation? Is this statement something you want to use at a set time of day, or is it a statement you want to call upon when you are faced with certain situations? Knowing when you will be using it will help you in your planning which in turn will keep you prepared and focused. Decide your time, place and situation.

How do you want to feel when you use the statement? Your affirmation is there to help you “be” a certain way. Do you want to be happy, excited, calm, relaxed, patient, understanding? Knowing how you want to feel will help you define your statement.

State your affirmation in the present tense. Your affirmation should be recited as if it is already here and happening. Own the statement as if you are already being, doing or having the result you want. Start with “I am” or “I have”.

Use “Superlatives”! Praise yourself to the highest degree. Make yourself the best, the greatest, the most wonderful. This will magnify your feelings and your results!

When you are clear on these points, you will be able to build your affirmation with clarity and understanding. It should bring a visual picture in your mind so clear that you can see and feel the end result.

And if you do it correctly, it should bring a smile to your face every time and begin to attract the results you want to achieve!

Grieving an Unborn Child

he loss of a child is an unnatural event. Parents are meant to outlive their children. Yet at the same time, the number of children who die before they are ever born is staggering. Miscarriage is far more common than one may expect. These losses are not often talked about and for those who have not had a similar experience, they may feel at a loss for what to say or how to help. The fact remains, the child existed, and, whether the pregnancy was welcomed with great joy or was met with a less positive attitude, parents, mothers in particular, grieve their unknown child. Acknowledging that the child was a real person is an important first step. Many parents have a sense of the child’s gender and they should trust their intuition about that. Naming their child gives the child dignity and allows the parents to honour that life. One way family and friends can show their support is by buying flowers for the parents. Often family and friends worry they will just make things worse if they bring up the baby, but all parents like to have their children acknowledged. Having others show their concern, compassion and sadness also allows the parents to know it is okay to grieve. There are likely not many mementos of this very short life, but even a card or a dried flower or piece of ribbon from a bouquet can be a treasured keepsake. Phrases such as, “At least you have other children,” or, “You can always have more,” are not helpful, and, in fact, are quite hurtful. When one doesn’t know what to say, it suffices to simply say, “I am sorry for your loss.” All parents have the right to grieve the loss of someone so precious.
