Don’t play your sport to keep fit– Get fit to play your sport! Lack of fitness is a major cause of injury Sponsor for YMCC Hockey LendiQ - Keyinvest Lending Services -David Cosgrove 0412 624 312 david@lendiq.com.au President’s Note; Simon Moore-Crouch smoore-crouch@wais.org.au mob:0433509582 This week I’ve decided to dedicate my column is a bit of an unsung YM hero. There are plenty of people around the club and around hockey that volunteer their time and make it possible for us all to enjoy the great game that it is. But it struck me on the weekend that there is one particular person that I think plays a really important role in making Shenton an amazing place for the YM faithful to train, play or watch hockey. I am of course talking about Wayne Kendle, our fearless Shenton Turf Manager. Now although technically he is employed by the three clubs who own and run Shenton, Wayne is deep down a YMCC man having been a club volunteer for a number of years and with family still playing for the mighty Y. More often than not when you lob up for training, be it at 630am or 630pm, or for a game it is Wayne who is there to greet you. He always says g’day and most of the time acts like he’s happy to see you! For the juniors he’s on hand for that post game drink and killer python, while for us seniors he’s there behind the bar for that much needed post game beer. He’s always there to provide the low down on what’s happening around YM and the other clubs who use Shenton, and goes out of his way to ensure everyone is treated fairly. Nothing is too much trouble for Wayne who does his utmost to make sure everyone is enjoying their hockey and sees Shenton as a place to be proud of. Those of us who play and train there reap the benefits of his work. So Wayne on behalf of the club thanks for being a great bloke and for playing a part in our hockey experience – it wouldn’t be the same without you! Finally an important update on the lights down at Perry Lakes. We have had confirmed that work will commence this week on the upgrades and repairs now that the parts have arrived from interstate. We expect them to be fully functioning by next Wednesday 30th May. The club appreciates everyone’s patience and understanding with the delays, which unfortunately have been completely out of our control. I look forward to getting down to Perry Lakes in the coming weeks to see it bathed with light for training!

COMMENT Tough Game with only 10 players. We will beat them next time!

Jordan Clarke, Shaun Tatlow and Jalen Weerakody

A big win. High conversion of opportunities. The highlight was Jackson’s back stick goal.!!!

YMCC got a bit of a thumping by NewChris Henderer and man. Final score did not reflect amount of Chris Masters possession but did reflect ability to put the ball in the net Very close game against Uni. Kane Corbett

Canteen News Most Saturday mornings, setting up the BBQ and canteen runs smoothly, however sometimes the unexpected happens! This was experienced last Saturday morning when both gas cylinders for the BBQ were found to be empty! Customers were already hovering for the infamous YMCC sausage in a bun for breakfast. Fortunately the quick actions of the dynamic duo, Judy and Brian Glencross saved the day. Judy rolled up her sleeves and started cooking the sausages/onions on the gas stove inside the club rooms. Meanwhile a new gas cylinder was purchased from a Petrol Station nearby and Brian soon had the BBQ fired up and ready to use. The sausages/onions were transferred to the BBQ and the morning continued as normal. Thank you to Judy and Brian for ensuring our customers were not kept waiting and all 225 sausages were sold by the end of the morning. Thank you to the parents of the J 3/4 YM1 teams for providing the great array of cakes and slices to sell and assisting behind the counter. These parents were well organised and ensured that the tea/coffee stand ran smoothly and efficiently. The "coffee machine" has proven to be a huge success and will remain a weekly addition at the canteen. The canteen ladies will be taking over operating the machine as of next Saturday morning, but we would like to thank Janice (the owner of the machine) for providing support while some of the canteen staff have been on leave. ..
