Don’t play your sport to keep fit– Get fit to play your sport! Lack of fitness is a major cause of injury

Sponsor for YMCC Hockey LendiQ - Keyinvest Lending Services -David Cosgrove 0412 624 312 david@lendiq.com.au Presidents report: Patrick Knott As you read this the 2 Vets women teams may already have won their Grand Finals and the 1s men may already be into the Grand Final. Please excuse me if my predictions are too bold. In case you are reading this on Thursday 15th before 7pm – please try and get down to the 1’s game at 7pm PHS1. The YM men’s line-up will be rock solid against a strong UWA outfit and it should be a quality game to watch. Bring your voice, wear your hoodie and sit with your mates to watch the game. I had the pleasure of seeing the J7/8 boys play their semi-final against Wolves at Fletcher Park. The boys played a great game and thoroughly deserved to win 2-1 after dominating much of the game - good luck for the GF which is also at Fletcher Park this Saturday. I also heard that the 2nd on the table J5/6 girls thumped their opposition 8-0 which shows how much these girls have improved since last year. Some of the J5/6 teams had fun with games on turf giving them a little taste of a faster game with a focus on ball control and precise passing. Well done to all for the focus on skills, team play and enjoyment ! The club wind-up is on the 15th October at Perry Lakes and some things to consider for you all: · Dress is can be smart casual but would strongly encourage a more sophisticated attitude e.g. lounge suit or cocktail dress or both. Even better, get your team to agree on a theme for the night. · This year we would particularly like to invite any junior parents / officials to put a table together. You will have fun and we can thank you for your efforts this year. · Other specific invites : o The Canteen crew – on the proviso you don’t do any work you sit and celebrate. o The vets men and women. o The club Elders – it was great to see you last year and you are again most welcome. · Catering will be the same as last year so low cost and good quantities. · The bar will be fully stocked with a great range of drinks at very affordable prices. We don't not want it to be a drink-athon so absolutely plan to enjoy yourselves but please know your own limit. Some Hockey WA news, in 2012 for the men’s 1st grade competition, Peel have been promoted to replace Suburban who have been relegated and Fremantle are more than likely to stay in the 1st grade women denying Hale the chance to be promoted. Don’t forget the International Super Series in Perth at the end of October – I will provide more on that in the next Sportsman but you can check it out on the Hockey WA web site.

CANTEEN NEWS; Julie Spencer Some of the junior final games were held at Perry Lakes last Saturday morning and we were so pleased to have Bruce Mercer from the mens vet team preparing buns, setting up tables and assisting on the BBQ stand. Nothing was to much trouble for Bruce and the sausages were cooked to perfection which was all due to his "special technique". Thanks Bruce for your help and company Thank you to Sherryn Howell, Lorna Hurst and Lauren Spencer for providing the array of cakes and slices to sell which were very popular and sold well The canteen could not operate with out the mens vet players and junior parents / players that assist every Saturday morning, and as a result, we have had an outstanding year of fundraising for the club. The canteen ladies thank you all and look forward to seeing you in 2012 Best wishes Di Sunderman, Beth McKechnie, Fiona Teo, Sherryn Howell, Cathy Hood, Lorna Hurst and Julie Spencer ANNUAL NANGA BUSH CAMP WEEKEND7TH - 9TH OCTOBER (Middle weekend of School Holidays) A weekend to relax after the hockey season - Nanga Bush Camp situated just outside of Dwellingup You can do as much or as little as you want - canoeing, rafting, bushwalking, socialising, reading....
