Issue 20

YMCC has been sponsored by Healthway and Sports Medicine Australia and is pleased to promote the “Healthy Club” message.

Sponsor for YMCC Hockey LendiQ - Keyinvest Lending Services -David Cosgrove 0412 624 312 david@lendiq.com.au Presidents report: Patrick Knott With 2 more games of the regular season still to be played there are a few teams with big challenges to make finals. Well done to our “older” juniors for their performance this year. We have 3 out of 4 teams with a chance of getting in the finals and I know we have a talented bunch of juniors and recognise they are the future of our club. Good luck to all teams as they train to win remaining matches. Remember at YM we have a “no lose” (joking!), play fair and have fun policy. The senior quiz night was by all accounts a great night (unfortunately I was away for work). Quiz master David “Cosi” Cosgrove put together entertaining batches of brain teasers some rounds being 20 questions long. Not satisfied with simply reading questions he also used pictures, played music and his let loose his own operatic voice with some melodic challenges. Thanks Cosi your efforts are much appreciated !! Don’t forget Cosi is a club sponsor and can help you out through his mortgage broking business. Thanks also to Big Red and Di Crocker for running the Bar. Strategic Plan update – yes it is coming – I have an official final draft and we will print out some copies for people to take home from their various wind-ups. We would like to have some pictures of our junior players in the Plan and Hugh Reynolds has sent an email to parents requesting this. Please respond to Hugh if you don’t want a picture of your child in the Plan. Speaking of wind-ups, the junior ones are all arranged and the senior one is slated for Saturday the 15th of September in the club rooms starting around 7pm. We were not happy with the catering last year so are looking for another option to tantalise taste buds. We aim to minimise cost and bring it down from last year so we estimate $40 per head with cheap drinks being on sale at the bar. I know this date and time clashes with games possibly one game (slim chance as they should win). It is also possible that some teams are playing the next day so if that is the case, they can take it easy and limit alcohol intake (probably a good thing). Whilst this is not ideal it appears to be the best we can do for 2012. I expect the YMCC episode of the TV show will be on the 5th or 11th of September. Don’t forget the WEMBLEY HOTEL are club sponsors. Please mention you play for YM if you go to the bar or the drive through. A WEMBLEY evening for seniors is organised for Saturday the 25th of August. Be there to reminisce on the years highs, lows or just dream of the future.

Nearly end of fixtures Sundowner Saturday 25th, August 2012 6pm at The Wembley Hotel For some teams the end of normal fixtures is close, for others another game to go, and then FINALS!!!! Come to the Wembley Hotel for a relaxing drink and some food after playing your games or watching your fellow club mates slogging it out. Thanks to The Wembley Hotel one of our club sponsors Senior Quiz Night Thanks to everyone who came and made the senior quiz night a great success, lots of fun was had and prizes galore! First prize was earnt by Turf/Grass Crabs, second was Mens O40s, door prize of a stick signed by Kookaburra Rob Hammond was won by Michelle Howell. Big thank you to Quiz Master Cosi for straining our brains, thanks to Jordan behind the bar, Di for helping everywhere and scribe Moira. Thanks to those who helped setup and dismantle. And finally a huge thank you to the businesses who donated some prizes ; FHE, Graylands Road, Claremont ; Wembley Hotel, Cambridge Street, Wembley; Clive Smith at Coastal Tennis, Frinton Avenue, City Beach ,Iconic Hair and Beauty, Cambridge Street, Wembley and Stefens Books, Shafto Lane Perth

A good game starting off the first half being focussed on the task at hand, using all players, and using the whole field. The three points puts us firmly in second spot. A great season, well done to all players who have been involved with the 4s. Rest this weekend with the BYE before the Finals. Thanks to Robyn who came along to cover some of the injuries.

Kevin (Volka) Knapp has informed his O/40's teammates that he won't be available to play the Grand Final on 15 September should we make it that far. Before getting a chance to chastise him in the customary manner for those who miss finals through general softness, work commitments or appallingly scheduled holidays, Kevin explained that he will be riding to raise funds for Muscular Dystrophy - a very worthy cause. Kevin explains, "I have taken on the challenge to RIDE FOR SOMEONE WHO CAN'T.I will personally ride, walk or carry my bike 100km for Rob who has a form of limb girdle muscular dystrophy. I will ride because he can't, because I want to assist in raising awareness for muscular dystrophy and also because I want to help to make a difference. Muscular dystrophy is a relentless, progressive muscle wasting disease with no cure. Please sponsor me because together we WILL beat muscular dystrophy." Please see the link to the Fundraising page below. Good luck with the ride Kevin. Please visit KEVIN KNAPP'S FUNDRAISING PAGE at http://www.everydayhero.com.au/
