Parent/Child 3: ages 3-4

The final step in our Parent/Child series. In addition to beginner swimming, basic water adjustment and safety skills will also be introduced. Pike: ages 3-6

This class is for children who have little or no water experience or have a fear of the water. Kicking, floating, reaching, shoulder bobbing and jumping are taught. Children will have a level 4 or fully inflated bubble. Introduction to front crawl with alternating arm recovery, rhythmic breathing and combined stroke on back will be taught. Children can swim a length of the pool on their front and back at the end of this level. Prerequisite: Swimmer must be able to swim the width of 3 lanes without flotation. Flotation based introduction to the major 4 swimming strokes. Class includes diving skills and opportunities to practice swimming without flotation. Prerequisite: Able to paddle independently, float on their back with a flotation device and put face under the water. Children will have a level 3 bubble. Learn rotary breathing and improve stamina for swimming strokes. Class goal is to eliminate flotation completely and swim independently. Swimmers bubbles should be no more than a level 2 bubble. Prerequisite: Able to swim 10 feet or more without flotation and fully submerge their head.

YOUTH SWIM 40 Minutes F: $50 M: $90 N: $140

Polliwog: ages 6+

This class is for the child who has little or no experience. Jumping, bobbing, floating, kicking and gliding will be introduced, along with reaching, pulling and breathing control as the child becomes independent of the flotation devices. Guppy: ages 6+

Swimmers must swim half the length of the pool without assistance and submerge their face in the water to enter this class. They are introduced to the basics of the major four swim strokes in addition to rotary breathing. Minnow: ages 6+

Swimmers must swim 1 length of front crawl with rhythmic breathing and 1 length of backstroke to enter this class. These swimmers can swim 2 lengths of each stroke: Front Crawl, Back Crawl, and Rudimentary Breaststroke. They should have a concept of the Breaststroke kick. Mon: 3:30pm Thu: 3:30pm

Pre-Team Fins Program: ages 4+

These classes are designed for swimmers who are interested in learning the skills needed for competitive swimming and taught in a team format. The focus of the Fins Swim Program will be on stroke development, technique, and racing starts and turns. Swimmers should be able to swim one length of the pool freestyle and backstroke with no assistance & tread for at least 1 minute. Swimmers should own their own pair of flippers and goggles. She is offering a special session for those really looking for more than an introduction to water. Jill is a certified WSI swim instructor and is looking to teach every child to swim. Fri:

Beginner Teen Swim Lessons:

ages 12+ A class for teens who have never had swim lessons before. This is a beginner level class to help teens build confidence in the water.

Adult Beginner Swim Lessons:

ages 17+ This is the place to start for adults who don’t have a lot of prior swimming experience. Participants will become more confident in the water and will learn the fundamentals of swimming and aquatic safety. Mon: 10:00am Tue: 5:45pm

Adult Stroke Development: ages 17+

Develop basic swim strokes and use swimming as a source of fitness. It is recommended that participants have taken beginner swim lessons before enrolling in stroke development. Mon: 10:45am Wed: 5:45pm

Advanced Adult Conditioning:

ages 17+ | M: $75 N: $113 This program provides workouts for triathletes and fitness swimmers. This class will aim to meet everyone’s needs. All levels encouraged to participate. Thu: 5:45pm

FINS SWIM CLUB 45 Minutes F: $120 M: $150 N: $200 We are taking our very popular fins program and bringing it to the next level. This club will swim twice a week for 45 minutes. Work on swim conditioning, flip turns, stroke mechanics, starts and all the essentials to help you get ready to try out for the Piranhas Swim team! Goggles are required for this class and fins are strongly recommended. Swimmers must be able to swim 50 yard (full lap) without resting and be able to show the basics of rotary breathing. DIVING

CERTIFICATION CLASSES

Lifeguard Training: ages15+

Springboard Diving: ages 7+

Learn the basics of competitive diving. Students will practice approaches such as forward and back jumps in straight position, pike and tuck body positions, and forward and back dives. In this class participants must be able to pass the deep water test and do a forward dive from the side of the pool. Sat: 8:30am

Advanced Springboard Diving:

ages11+ This class is for divers who have been promoted from the beginner class or high school divers who want to perfect their advanced skills. Instructor recommendation is required. Sat:

PRIVATE LESSONS (members only) Private lessons are a great way to learn to swim or improve stroke techniques. Each lesson lasts 30 minutes. To register, fill out a request form at the Welcome Center. Certification is determined by successful completion of a comprehensive written exam and water test. Swimming skills are a prerequisite and attendance in all classes is mandatory. Participants must be at least 15 years old by the start of the session. Students should come to the review prepared and ready to show their skills. Certification must be current. Red Cross no longer accepts expired certification. Prior to taking this re-certification, please take the online refresher course found at www.redcrossrefresher.com. A personal trainer will guide you and your peers through a challenging treadmill walking or running 30 minute workout, immediately followed by a 45 minute strength training workout that focuses on toning and sculpting the total body. Lift Heavy, Look Lean for Women:

60 Minutes | F: $145 M: $189 N: $265 Get cut and lean with the use of free weights. Improve your body composition and learn the secrets to replacing fat with muscle. This class meets two times per week and includes pre and post body composition testing using our state of the art Inbody equipment ($50 value). Tue/Thu: 9:45am

Beginner Yoga Series:

60 Minutes | M $49 N $99 This beginner yoga series is perfect of anyone who is new to yoga or would like to create a solid foundation deepening their yoga practice. In this 7-week series, you will be introduced to the core yoga poses that make up a flow class. Each week we will breakdown a series of yoga poses focusing on breath, safe sequencing and alignment. In this series you will build strength, flexibility, balance and confidence to take any yoga flow class. Sat: 10:30am

YOUTH/TEEN FITNESS Race Training:

M $29 N $79 Train for a 5K! Torigian Family YMCA race training will get you up and on your way. Learn the basics of running through the practice of form drills, running intervals and eventually, non-stop running. Proper form and technique is emphasized so that participants can maximize enjoyment and minimize injuries. This progressive series is open to anyone who is interested in fulfilling a lifetime goal of running an organized race such as 5K. Taking this program will prepare you for the YMCA of Metro North Road Race Series, which starts in April. Sat: 8:30am

Tai Chi:

50 Minutes | M: $58 N: $116 Tai Chi is a moving meditation which focuses and quiets the mind, involving a series of gentle, slow movements and deep breathing. Tai Chi is a great way to reduce stress, while potentially reducing pain from arthritis and improving immune system function. Mon: 10:30am

Team Training Challenge

April 24 - June 18 Get in shape for the summer with our results-driven 8 week program. Team up with other participants, a trainer and a nutritionist to bring your wellness to the next level! You and your teammates will be guided through an 8 week fitness and nutrition program that will be fun, motivating and challenging.

L.I.F.T.: Age 12+

60 Minutes | F: $59 M:$80 N: $120 Lifting Instruction for Teens This weekly one-hour class will teach teens proper technique in weight lifting. Various free weight exercises including squats, dead lifts, bench press and power cleans followed by flexibility are included. Wed: 4:00pm

YOUTH SPORTS LEAGUES Youth Basketball Association: Spring 2017 Season March 4th to April 15th F: $70 M: $105 N $140

League Division Kindergarten & Biddy League: First Graders; 8’ Hoops, Youth Basketballs Rookie League: Second & Third Graders; 9’ Hoops, 28.5” Basketballs Junior League: Fourth & Fifth Graders; 10’ Hoops, Long Court, Official Size Basketballs All leagues use age-appropriate basketballs and hoop settings and are focused on fun and fair play. Our trained volunteer coaches will guide the players through fun games & skill building drills while emphasizing learning, teamwork and sportsmanship. Players can request a buddy or teammate. Teams will be assigned a 1 hour time slot each week on Saturdays. Schedule is distributed prior to season start. Volunteer to Coach! Mini Tee Ball League ages 3-5

Saturday’s April 24-June 11 F: $80 M: $100 N: $120 This pre-competitive, instructional program is an introduction to tee ball that emphasizes participation, fun and fair play. YOUTH/TEEN ADVENTURE Open Rock Climbing:

FREE for Members! Our climbing wall is a 21’ top rope wall that offers hours of challenge and excitement. Visit during open climb hours for an experienced staff belay. Visit the welcome center for open climb hours.

Snowshoeing:

FREE for Members - Great for the family! Snowshoeing is a wonderful, low-impact aerobic activity that requires no special skills and is fun to do as a family. If you can walk, you can snowshoe! Stop by the Torigian Family YMCA Welcome Center and sign out a set of snow shoes for your family. Snow on the ground and daylight are required.
