FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

With the YMCA, everyone can afford to keep their kids healthy and safe this summer! Financial assistance is available for families who need help to pay for camp through Department of Human Services. If you qualify, DHS assistance can be applied to all weeks of summer camp. Applications for assistance is through Community Coordinated Child Care (4-C’s) at 815.758.8149, 800.848.8727, dhs. state.il.us or picked up at the Member Service Desk. You do not have to be a YMCA member to qualify. Please remember to apply early! Approval can take up to 6 weeks. If you do not qualify or were denied funds through DHS, you may apply for funds through the Sage YMCA. Financial assistance is made available on a limited basis for families and based on annual income, family size and supported documentation. Confidential applications are available at the Member Service Desk during regular business hours. They may also be downloaded from the “Forms” page of our website. If you qualify for financial assistance through DHS, you cannot apply for additional financial assistance through the YMCA; you can apply for membership financial assistance only. A non-refundable $30 deposit per week is required to hold your child’s spot in camp, even if you have applied for DHS or YMCA financial assistance. This deposit may be applied to your co-pay. When DHS or YMCA financial assistance is utilized for third-party payment by camp families, approval must be received prior to a camper starting the program, or the family will have to pay the camp fee in full.

We are extremely selective when it comes to hiring our summer camp counselors. As a result, we hire only highly motivated, energetic counselors with a commitment to fun—and an equal commitment to camper safety. All staff are college-age or above, and most are pursuing degrees in education or recreation. All staff participate in a comprehensive, week-long training, including on-site certification in CPR and First Aid. In addition, our lifeguards are American Red Cross-certified.

CHARACTER IS WHAT MATTERS

Staff work closely with campers to promote a spirit of teamwork, cooperation and appreciation. All campers are expected to follow our behavior contract and adhere to the four core values of the YMCA. CARING: Putting others first. Being kind and expressing gratitude. HONESTY: Keeping their promises. Building a good reputation and being loyal. RESPECT: Being courteous and polite. Having good manners and valuing others. RESPONSIBILITY: Always do your best. Be accountable for your choices. If a camper’s conduct jeopardizes the physical or emotional well-being of others, he/she may be dismissed from the program. While no one is forced to participate in an activity, staff are trained to help campers feel included, and every effort is made to encourage participation. Our goal is to ensure that every child feels connected and is a valued member of our camp family.

DROP-OFF & PICK-UP PROCEDURES

For your convenience, we offer “valet” dropoff and pick-up so that parents do not have to leave their vehicle. This will be conducted at the circular drive located in front of the large pavilion during the hours of 6:30-9 a.m. for drop-off and 4-6 p.m. for pick-up. Designated and specially trained camp staff will meet you at your car window to sign your child in and out, and will also help your child(ren) in and out of the car. If you are dropping off or picking up a camper during camp hours (between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.), you must notify the camp director via email or phone ahead of time. In this case, you will also have to park and check in at the Sage YMCA front desk to drop off or pick up your child. Unexpected late drop-offs or early picks-ups will not be allowed, as these can be disruptive to the camp schedule and staffing. A photo ID is required at pick-up every day. Anyone picking up your child must be listed on the “Authorized Pick-Up” section of the registration form. This procedure will be strictly enforced, as this is for your child’s protection. Our staff will be equipped with an electronic tablet containing all authorized pick-up information to make checking your ID a streamlined process.

ACA ACCREDITATION

CAMP SAGE SESSION DATES AND THEMES

TEEN LEADERS PROGRAM AT THE SAGE YMCA

This camp focuses on leadership, teambuilding, character development and community service. Youth have fun working in a team as they work on projects that matter to them. Youth will discover their inner compassion and motivation as they serve members of the local community and address needs of the global community. We believe all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. That’s why our Teen Leaders cultivate the values, skills and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and educational achievement. Our activities, which range from leadership development to sports and arts, give you the opportunity to become a confident kid today and a healthier, happier grown-up tomorrow. This program is open to teens entering their freshman or sophomore year of high school. Opportunities include: • Planning and running special events during camp at the Y. • Organizing meaningful service learning experiences such as food drives, car washes and other fundraisers for our community. • Weekly meetings with their Unit Leader and mentor who will facilitate their growth in the program. • Shadowing our camp staff, Red Cross certified lifeguards and highly trained membership staff. • Participating in fun team-building games and character development activities. • Visiting high ropes obstacle courses and climbing rock walls. • Taking a Red Cross Jr. Lifeguarding course. • Daily swim time in our on-site indoor heated pool. • Attending the Friday field trips with the rest of Camp Sage.

Looking for an overnight, resident camp experience for your child or your family this summer? The YMCA of Metro Chicago has five resident camp options in beautiful pristine areas sure to provide special memories to last a lifetime.

YMCA CAMP DUNCAN

Since 1921, Camp Duncan has provided safe, quality camping programs for boys and girls ages 7 to 15 and Teen Adventure Camps for 15 to 17 year olds. All activities are geared to the developmental level of the campers. Camp Duncan is a co-ed, summer resident camp located near Fox Lake, Illinois, on 300 acres.

YMCA CAMP MACLEAN

Camp MacLean is located just two miles east of Burlington, Wisconsin, just 20 minutes from Lake Geneva, on 247 acres of woods and grassland property. The camp offers fun and challenging activities such as swimming, climbing, boating, kayaking, archery, hiking, and much more. We also leave room for plenty of traditional programs, including sing-alongs, campfires and campouts.

YMCA CAMP PINEWOOD

Traditional but up-to-date, Camp Pinewood features 16 cabins on a private, spring-fed lake, with every activity from sailing to horseback riding. The camp is nestled in the heart of the Manistee National Forest near Muskegon, Michigan. It’s convenient but remote enough to ensure that everyone enjoys the natural beauty of the camp’s 200-acre facility.

YMCA FAMILY CAMP NAWAKWA

Family Camp Nawakwa offers a unique experience- an opportunity to bring together whole families, not just children, through camping. The camp sits on 180 acres of pristine forest lands, and includes wetlands and lakes with abundant wildlife. The camp is nestled in Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin, which is home to the Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians.

YMCA CAMP INDEPENDENCE

CHGO016

Camp Independence is a special place for campers age seven and up with spina bifida. At camp, kids become a community as they learn both how to be more independent and how to contribute to a group. We teach self-reliance, a love for nature, and the development of attitudes and practices that build character. Our counselors are dedicated to making sure camp is an amazing experience for every camper.
